socon tourney is the new big east tournament

 

One of a few Wofford grads on here. Such a surprise and awesome moment. I’ve shared in the CBB thread how NIL has really lowered the level of basketball at mid major level, particularly size and athleticism.

It happened to Wofford immediately for a few factors and basically decimated a program that had become a high mid major. It took a few years but the rest of the SoCon fell back to us in terms of roster. It was really a shame because the SoCon at its best was pure CBB at the perfect level of skill, coaching, and heart to be really enjoyable every night for those that watched.

An awkward coach firing, transfers, and limitations of a small liberal arts college in the modern NCAA landscape means that Wofford have a roster that wouldn’t look like it could win the Texas 5A state championship off the bus.

So to win the tournament as a 6 seed playing three of our best games of the season (including an incredibly gutsy battle tonight) and riding the luck of all 4 top seeds losing (including us beating #3) and get a tournament game on national tv (probably a 16/16 play in… who cares) is such a sweet reward for the players and staff, and the alumni who are really proud of the program.
