Was hoping the OSU/Iowa line was gonna be closer to 17-18 points, if I gotta watch Iowa lose might as well make some money on them.
timing didn’t help. By the time the season was over, McCarthy declared and Harbaugh left, all significant targets were gone. So you were really left with what came out of the spring window. I’m sure there’s probably one or two that in hindsight might be helpful but I don’t think there were any real targets that they thought would be a difference maker. I guess they could have tried and tampered with someone?
Seems pretty clear that they could have had Carr if they wanted him. They just liked somebody else better. It may turn out they were wrong, but they got the guy they wanted in that class. Underwood is the one that hurts.
I wouldn’t worry too much about any of this. I’m sure Sherone Moore has a plan where throwing for 86 yards a game is a sustainable path to victory.
As you’re fond of pointing out, he doubled his yardage from his first start to his second. If he doubles that again, that’d be more than the passing yards that were needed to beat OSU in 2021 and 2023
I cry myself to sleep every night wearing my "2023 National Champions" nightshirt and cap. Spoiler spell checker refuses to acknowledge that "nightshirt" is a word
it was kinda weird seeing Wisconsin playing at USC on Sat. this week it'll be weird seeing USC playing in Minnesota and UCLA playing in Happy Valley
Our QB coach who was escorted off the property and was told he was no longer working at Michigan in December of 2022 for totally not bad reasons decided that Moore was the only QB he would recruit in the 2023 class. He did so poorly and we never had any chance to get him, and we thus ended up no QB in that class. CJ Carr committed to ND that summer, as well, although allegedly Jadyn Davis was the guy they wanted. Time will tell if that was the correct move or not. Prior to that year, the same QB coach allegedly took Jayden Denegal on the recommendation of his personal QB coach without really ever seeing him, which is funny, and then also flipped Orji late. That QB coach appeared to be all in that year on really athletic QBs and that was probably his plan going forward for the position. We now have a QB coach and OC who does not appear to know how to make that work.
yeah no I’ve also seen Oregon fans do this bit on twitter. I don’t get it - is it so you can be really happy when the team “exceeds expectations” and wins by 21+?
I’ve seen MSU play twice this year. You’re better than I expected. Chiles has talent, but he is killing you with turnovers. Completely changed the tenor of our game and cost you the BC game.
live by the young immensely talented aggressive kid, die by the young immensely talented aggressive kid I would be fine with experiencing the highs and lows this year in the name of progress/development if I didn’t think a bigger program will outbid MSU for him next year
I thought you guys had a good game plan to start and you moved the ball. When it was still only 10-7, you left at least 9 points off the board turning it over on downs or the other two turnovers deep in our end. Could have been much different.
probably a combination of sandbagging, high expectations before the season and not blowing teams out with a clean games other than Oregon state win (although Boise state is pretty good) and maybe some fear of Jonathan smith. I don’t think that last one is real, I’m just spitballing
Headed to State College for the first time for the PSU/UCLA game this weekend for our yearly CFB trip. Getting in Friday afternoon...any bars/restaurants that are must visits?
It hasn't been all that long since we played USC either. We had a home-and-home with them in 2010-2011 during Brewster's last season and Kill's first.
Downtown has changed so much in the last decade or so. What type of vibe are you going for? There’s a couple massive (relative to rest of state college bars) that are kinda the congregation hubs of students now in Champs and Brothers. I wouldn’t recommend those as those have no character or history of the town. Phyrst for happy hour is never a bad time, Doggies and/or cafe 210 have some outdoor areas if weather is good. I’ve heard the new brewery down there, Antifragile has some good beers but haven’t been myself. There’s others but again depends on vibe you are going for.
We’re all in our late 30s now so we’re more than happy to post up at a dive or brewery. If we see the turntables coming out, that means it’s time for our old asses to find another establishment.
Big Ten Weekly Awards: Co-Offensive POW Kaley Mullings (Michigan RB) 24/111 2 TD Tez Johnson (Oregon WR) 11/121 2 TD Defensive POW Abdul Carter (Penn Stste DE/LB) 7 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 fumble Special Teams Dominic Zvada (Michigan K) 2 FG, 4-4 on year from 50+ Freshman Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State WR) 5/83 TD and 1/19 TD
Zeno’s. Basement dive with a great beer selection. The Brewery is a townie dive. I actually thought it got eminent-domained for a parking garage but looks like it’s still open. Like PSU12 said downtown has changed a lot. I graduated 12 years ago and it’s crazy how many places I used to frequent are gone now. Federal Taphouse isn’t anything remarkable but they have a good and wide selection of beers. Pretty big too so you can usually at least grab a drink at the bar.
