Jacobs is the son of an Ohio State OL coach from the 90’s who walked on and became our long snapper after his dad got fired. He’s been small school his entire career, but he’s won everywhere.
all the Kent state fans think it’s gambling they legit think he’s throwing games- guess he’s made insane decisions during games including randomly pulling QBs
Seems like no major job openings this year, but potentially a bunch next year. Although the ridiculous buyouts that currently exist for coaches of a lot of unhappy fanbases might temper the rate of firings that would have otherwise happened a decade ago.
This is the year of OCs getting big money. FSU, UF, Oklahoma, Michigan, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Utah will all be looking to hire an OC.
Ohio State’s Brian Hartline is going to interview for OC spots, then hopefully stay at OSU to be the highest paid WR coach in the country.
I’m not sure how much of a candidate he will be because all of those teams need a guy that will actually call plays at a high level and his recruiting prowess won’t be enough to save the head coaches jobs since they are all likely to be fired after next season (minus Fickell and maybe Norvell).
Norvell ain't getting fired anytime soon unless he stupidly does something to get fired for cause. That buyout is insane.
I think he's above average coach? He wasnt ready for the job when he took the Mizzou one. He took a 'me against the world" attitude and bump heads w a lot of people in the admin. TBF The AD at the time was awful. So prob not completely his fault. Always thought he could do something like this at a G5 gig, learn, improve how to handle the non Xs & O's part of the job, and get another P4 shot. His players seem to love him immensely. I dont really see him ever being a great recruiter. But maybe NIL can mitigate some of that.
He just signed an 8 yr $84 million extension and has to be paid 85% of his remaining salary if he gets fired. Unless FSU announces a partnership with the Saudi government, I don't think firing Norvell is on the table for like another 5 years when that thing dips below $20 million.
I believe he’s there for at least the next two seasons but if they have a season anywhere close to this one, he’s gone. 5 wins is probably the number that he’s safe at. 4 is borderline. 3 and he’s gone.
Listening to SEC FB LIVE, #Arkansas Razorbacks do you guys think Pittman will retire after this season? The conversation just came up on the show
Yeah, the usual December cycle should be relatively quiet. The only way anything really notable opens up this year would be after Black Monday if somebody big jumps to the NFL. But yeah, it doesn't look like any sizable firings this year.
Who are some hot shot OCs that Billy can hire to not do anything bc he doesn't want to give up play calling?
I don't know if he's a grifter, but the self promotion part has definitely been a thing with him. If it works, he can be a star. If not, it could get weird pretty quick. Gattis was like that when he got to Michigan and was getting into Twitter fights with Locksley over who got credit for Bama's offense.
last year we didn’t have one at all, so i guess he is still an improvement. update: he’s also our rb coach, so ST is only a secondary role.
A lot can change but it sounds like we're going to hire Hartley with Brandon Streeter as OC. Though the Streeter part is much less certain.
He’s having a hip replacement in January during a big recruiting period for us in the portal window and there’s been rumblings he may retire after this year but I doubt that happens. If he had a losing season it cuts the buyout in half because his overall record would be under .500 after he signed the extension. If we lose to La Tech it’s probably on the table that he gets bought out. But 6-6 or 7-5 if we beat Mizzou then he’s probably safe.
Hartley is awesome despite his looks. Streeter idk about but he sucked at Clemson and nothing of note in Athens.
Yeah I'd rather him bring in some unknown up-and-comer as OC but Streeter is just a rumor at this point. It sounds like he was our guy pretty early on. Monken endorsement helped him a lot. Curious to see what kind of staff he puts together ---- I'm assuming he'll take some analysts and GAs from UGA.
I doubt it, Blake went to Western Carolina and has spent nearly his entire career in NC working up through the HS ranks
