Sorry, but you have to be SEC before you can credibly argue that the results of games actually played should be discounted in favor of expectations of games that were not played.
Even if you could get over the scheduling change, I couldn't imagine going to a football game after that. They're going to have to open the doors to locals or it's gonna look like a covid era game.
Also idk about claims of any IEDs not within the initial truck but that would probably be enough to scare me away at the earliest chance if I'm otherwise planning to go the game.
I rather reseed after the first round. I like the top 4 conference winners getting a bye. If not doing that then get rid of conference title games and add an extra game to the season.
Are we sure a bunch of people didn’t just go for the party and always intended to go back home before the game.
Well a reseed doesn't change 2024 at all because no upsets happened in round 1. So Oregon still draws OSU, etc The inequity or unfair path people are clamoring about is because OSU was seeded 8th despite being ranked 6th. Only way to fix that is a straight seeding format
How did y'all feel about that 4 & 13 call for Arizona St in the first OT? Armchair DC gonna be like you "You can't zero blitz in that situation, blah blah blah" Naw, that's pussy shit! If you can't get home on a zero blitz on 4th down with the season on the line, you don't deserve to win. Either get the sack or they get the TD and the game is over either way so.... be aggressive and get the sack or the PBU I got no problem with that.
Ewers seems to struggle when he has to break off his 1st read. Running a zero blitz and leaving it up to chance that the 1st read gets open was extremely dumb.
it's a good call it's also just a great job by the OL don't really need to monday morning quarterback this thing more than that
Yeah it's a classic fan hindsight bullshit. They play zone, helms is all alone in the corner of the end zone then everybody screaming about how they weren't aggressive. Only thing that is right is the thing that works.
well that is quite possibly the dumbest thing possible, but this is college football either straight seed or don't. but keeping auto byes and seeding the field one way for round one and then a completely different set of rankings for round two is quite frankly idiotic. can you imagine the ncaa tourney having 1 vs 16, 8 vs 9, etc and then for round 2 they switch to the AP poll to determine seeds and who will play each other? because that's what you are suggesting part of not reseeding is so fans can book reservations in advance. if they are gonna drag fanbases across the country every 10 days, you have to take guess work on where the game will be out of the equation. and you need one set of rankings that decides the field for the entirety of the tournament
Risky call, and the outcome was the exact risk in that scenario. Don’t think it was coaching malpractice or anything, just a big call that turned out wrong.
Then bump everything up where the quarters are still on site somewhere. There is no situation where people get to have it all. Re-seeding with the teams with byes playing their seed makes more sense to me than ranking a team as the 11th-best but calling them the 4 seed. And both of those are more preferable to me than pulling the auto byes for conference champs and putting the final nail in the coffin of the regular season not mattering at all.
but the regular season doesn't matter, that was inevitable once they moved to 12 it's possible the semis feature 4 teams, none of whom won a conference title, and 3 of them lost the last game they played before the playoffs started. the whole thing is absurd also, all the fuss (which I'm guilty of too) over the byes is kinda silly since next year is the last year it happens. in 2026 only the B1G and SEC champs will get byes so all this hand wringing is over 1 more year worth of games I never liked the idea of the auto byes for conf champs only, but I also hate the guaranteed home game for division winners in the NFL too but I just can't get behind a format that uses seeds for round 1 and then rankings for round 2 in order to manipulate the bracket. my brain just can't handle it lol. reseed the set seeds or remove auto byes (speaking for 2025), but please don't mix and match and create something even more confusing for fans to follow
Those are just the fans who didn't know where CU was on a map 25 months ago. The rest of us have been hoping for that downfall for much longer than that.
The regular season matters far less now. But at the very least, the current system makes winning the conference a reward, which means the games in the regular season that lead to whether you do or don't win the league matter. If we take away the auto byes and just give them to anyone, we're now including that conference title games don't matter because those teams in the B1G and SEC just automatically get byes whether they win or lose a lot of years. I get that we're never going to back to 1992 and that's great in a lot of ways and sad in some others. But CFB is as relevant as it is because it is the American sport where the regular season matters the most, and it's beyond stupid to me that everything we do with it now is just trying to make it a dumber, lesser version of the NFL that will ultimately matter less and less to people because that's not why they liked it in the first place. I understand it is inevitable because the networks are involved and they're morons, but that doesn't mean that we all need to sit here and pretend it's a good idea along the way.
What if your shitty team had a ton of opt outs but still beat a highly ranked team with most of their starters playing? asking for #Alabama Crimson Tide fans.
After the game, dillingham said that Ewers checked at the line into a max protect which made him try to get out of the coverage but ran out of time That said, Arizona State ended up dropping six on the play so they got no pressure and they had two guys short of the sticks in zone coverage. So nobody got home I'm a bit miffed on the responsibility of this safety if we're calling it "zero" anyway
Please forgive how awful the energy is in this video, but it's pretty obvious that it wasn't cover zero, it was just a cover zero look.
Crazy as hell to give up that TD with not one BUT two safeties covering that back endzone basically in the same damn area, right call by the DC horrific execution by the DB's
I know you're joshin but I hate that they called it zero on the broadcast and now millions of people will run around thinking it was a massive ASU mistake when actuality it was a great pre-snap read/change, a great blitz pickup, and a great route
Dabo will hear some crying if they lose to LSU. (A season of wins doesn't cut it if it's sandwiched between SEC losses)
Week one non-conference against Brian Kelly? History tells me Clemson has a pretty good chance there.
What did we think watering down the regular season would do? I mean I've been saying it for 10+ years on this board buy every step the playoff and expansion has taken is sucking the feeling out of a once great sport. Just glad we rode out the final wave on top before it became NFL lite. This was always going to be the outcome.
