I’d be surprised if our OL wasn’t one of the best in the country. We are going to be very deep, experienced, and talented on the OL. Defense we lose quite a few guys but are always pretty solid. We will also lose to the good teams we play and beat the bad ones. 10-2 seems right.
I feel like we have said James Franklin is a gigantic pussy with scheduling preferences for years. He would play slippery rock 3 times OOC if he could
Our next "marquee" non-conference series is a home and home with Temple. After that, we have one scheduled with Syracuse. But honestly we might need to cancel that one as it may be a bit too challenging.
Need Bankz analysis for additional year of age/mileage for this one. Less of a chance for a second contract if they stay longer in college?
actually had this convo today let's say the RB is projected as a 3rd round pick. on average a 3rd round pick get a 4 year deal worth roughly 6 mil in total (1.5 per) and the team has a 5th year option now you come back and due to an additional 200 carries now you fall to a 4th round pick; average deal is 4 mil over 4 years. so you lost 2 mil in salary value and the 5th year option is no longer part of the contract so at minimum you'd want 2 mil to come back for a year, right?
the money now is worth way more than the (potential) earned in 2026-2028, though. so it's not just pure arithmetic.
As a finance major I understand time value of money lol I was just doing quick back of the napkin math
if they weren't dicks, VT would be on the schedule next year. VT was supposed to host in 2020 and you can figure out what happened there so VT calls up PSU and says "hey, when do you wanna reschedule" and PSU declines so VT pulled out of the return game because why should PSU get a gate and not VT. PSU filled the spot with garbage, VT got South Carolina. they would have absolutely rolled VT next season, no idea why they couldn't just dump one of their shitter teams and replace it with a P4 shitter team. not hard to see why these two schools are yet to ever meet.
This seems a little steep, but they need to do something. Wonder if they could do a half measure like 5-7 plays or until the drive ends
nah, drive sounds right. gotta put player's health at a premium now, especially as expensive as they can be. if you can't get up on your own then it's better to be safe than sorry and keep you out for a few minutes at least.
Some drives are 10+ minutes though, so you run the risk of players not leaving when actually hurt and risking the safety of other players who can't sub out if someone leaves early. I'm sure there's a happy medium somewhere.
offense gets 4 plays to get a first down so have them sit for max 4 plays or next 1st down is achieved. Anything more is being egregious bec refs aren't trainers and trying to determine the severity of every injury is very sketchy.
They aren’t determining severity of anything. There is a rampant use of fake injuries as a strategy and they are setting a rule to correct it.
I'm aware but plenty of kids get dinged up and need to come out for a play or 2. So now those kids aren't allowed to come back in for a long time or just won't come out at all if they have to miss a whole drive.
teams aren't going to and shouldn't have to burn a timeout because a kid made a tackle and got the wind knocked out of him because the he landed awkwardly and the refs blew the whistle for an official timeout before he could gather himself and get up.
Yeah teams also shouldn’t have to stop every offensive series because a defender faked an injury either, but here we are.
They shouldn't. But the faking injuries needs to end. Something has to be done. If you aren't going to make it something that can be penalized with yards, then the only other option is the "injured" player needs to come out longer than a play.
thats why I said first down or 4 plays. Having a kid miss an entire drive that could be 10+ plays is just silly.
because the NFL prefers a slowed down game? no one runs hurry up no huddle regularly in the NFL the highest plays per game team in 2024 was Detroit and Cleveland at under 66 per game (65.8). the lowest was Jax at 58.4 per game
Who is in charge of ensuring that injury rule is followed and what is the penalty if caught breaking them? We all watch CFB refs every week. They're terrible. And we want to add this to the list of things they need to watch every play? Faking injuries is bad. I do not think it's such a massive problem that this needs to be done. Especially considering some players might just need to go out for a play or two to get checked on but have to go down and stop the game because it's the only way to sub out.
Making payments proportional would be really dumb and would just ensure the football and men’s bball programs basically cut themselves apart from the schools.
That's not happening very often imo. I think fans assume it's happening far more frequently than it is. I've seen home crowds boo when their offense isn't even in hurry up.
I called out this possibility a few weeks ago on this board and was laughed at. The slippery slope keeps getting more slippery.
Quinshon Judkins takes the handoff and has a hole but wait... He turns around and gives Will Howard the Rock Bottom! And he's running the ball the other way and takes off his jersey to reveal...oh my god...he's actually a student at the Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business!!!
