Scuderia Ferrari In before the NASCAR is better crowd. The Silly Season is starting to gain some momentum. Varsha was confident that Fernando Alonso will be driving for Ferrari next year. The question is who does he replace? Kimi or Massa? My money is on Kimi. I think it will be a swap between Alonso and Kimi. Renault loses ING as the title sponsor and is trying to woo Nokia, a Finnish based company. Kimi would all but assure that deal would take place.
Get Kimi the fuck out. Alonso in a Ferrari could be something special. Will Massa be able to get back in a F1 car?
Yeah Kimi has lost the "IT" factor. It will be weird having to root for Alonso for as much hate as I have for him. Also there is going to be a team next year.
Yeah they wanted two drivers but I think all of the big time drivers have said no. I wounder where they go for drivers.
Ayrton Senna was a bad mofo when I was a kid....F1 was on ESPN EARLY Sunday mornings every week so I watched it quite a bit back then.
Yeah I figured Scott Speed would be one. I have not heard any rumors lately of drivers. It will be interesting to see.
When Speed has the races they do a good job. Fox does a shit job with there races. The time difference hurts the sport for viewers.
That is how I got hooked on it. Also did not hurt that ESPN showed the :flashtits: in the habor at Monaco the one year.
Well this thread didn't really get off the ground 10 years ago. I was going to start my own thread for any/all F1 fans but searched and found this one so it should do. Monaco is tomorrow and although there are more exciting tracks on the circuit for the racing aspect, I still love the scene, yachts, prestige, etc... I've slowly gotten into F1 over the last couple years and still don't follow it as closely as I want to. I used to think it was boring in a predictable sense and it still is at the top with Mercedes and primarily Lewis Hamilton winning everything. I love how there are only 10 teams with exactly 2 drivers each. That small number really helps being able to follow along and not get overwhelmed with everything. What has really gotten me hooked more recently was watching the series on Netflix, "Formula 1: Drive to Survive". I suggest it to anyone whose even a little interested by F1. It really helped me understand the ins and outs of the "sport" and goes in depth on many of the drivers and mid tier and lower teams. The biggest thing I got out of it was the understanding of how you not only need to care about the Mercedes/Ferraris of the F1 world but the 2nd tier teams like Renault, Haas, McLaren, etc. and their efforts to rise up the ranks. Anyway, I'm jacked for Monaco tomorrow morning and hope there's enough guys on this board to keep this thread alive this time around.
We have another thread... But I think the thread title is outdated. Its much longer. We have about a dozen or so posters who chime in and talk about the series. Tomorrow will be fun.
Sebastian with a fantastic last effort. Didn’t think he had enough. Ferrari were so quick in the last sector. Canada is always a great race. Can’t wait for tomorrow. Maybe some life left in the Ferrari after all
Just got a chance to watch the qualifying. Bottas at 6 is a surprise. Verstappen was unlucky but Red Bull was trying to just get by with the Medium tire and got burned for it. Tomorrow should be great with Hamilton battling both Ferraris at the top and Verstappen trying to climb his way to the top. It's not Monaco so we should see some overtaking!
Something to keep an eye on is the smoke out the back of Bottas car. It was doing it for FP3 and Qualifying. Curious if Mercedes fixes whatever may be wrong with it or roll the dice. Smoke would mean engine I would think.
Also, have any of you been to an F1 or road Indycar race? I'm sure it's awesome seeing the cars and hearing them but sitting in the stands seeing one corner while missing all of the rest of the action seems like it would suck. I'm a golfer and follow the PGA Tour religiously. I've been to the Ryder Cup which is a huge professional golf event. As much as I love everything about golf, I feel like going to a F1 race would be like attending a professional golf event. The atmosphere is awesome and a big party but actually seeing a lot of the competition doesn't happen because you can only be in one place at a time.
Btw...I know this race is in Canada so they support their own but fuck Lance Stroll. Silver spooned douche who wouldn't even be an F1 driver if it weren't for daddy's money. Easily my least favorite F1 driver.
I’ve gone to F1 in Indy once. We sat on the front stretch. It’s was a cool experience. Schumacher just dominated. Was also pit lane so we got a ton of action. I’ve also done Canada a few times. Each time we sat in the hair pin. Just fantastic time. Got to walk on track post race. Been lucky to pick some action spots.
Do they at least have big video boards so you can see whats happening everywhere else around the track?
That’s cool... Ferrari just explodes out the turn-pin and smokes the Mercedes. And this is with the new and improved engine package for Mercedes. I’m pumped for today. Hopefully we get a good race
That’s a really terrible penalty. The guys are racing hard and I’m not sure where he’s expected to go. Let them race.
My brother in law’s company does all the hospitality management for formula one and nascar. I’m truly jealous of his business ventures and travel due to it. He is taking the family to Vietnam for 3 months next year for the race. I’m going to visit for sure
Well...."technically" he did but I understand what you're saying obviously. Also, he wasn't flaunting anything and even pulled Vettel up on the top of the podium with him.
The team is trash on race day. It's hard to top last season but they are well on the way to doing just that.
Don't like the 5 sec penalty. If you make it 1 or 2 secs the racing would still have mattered. Or no penalty, except for the slight correction Seb makes to the right once his fronts are back on track? Was impressed with both Ferrari drivers for not being apoplectic. Also, Hamilton drove a hell of a race. Had hoped for more competition between Max and Ricciardo, as well.
I'm catching up on articles from Canada and came across one talking about Ferrari never telling LeClerc about Sebs penalty and thus him not knowing if he pushed harder he could finish 2nd. How in the fuck do they not inform him. If i'm Leclerc i'm livid at my experience at Ferrari this season.
It definitively feels like they are doing all they can to cater to Seb. But seems like after Canada Seb staying in F1 is not as likely moving forward.
And they left him out in his first stint way too long hoping to take advantage of a safety car that never came
He tossed out a ton of hints about losing his passion. Might just be because he felt wronged by the penalty. I think to much money sitting in F1 to retire and I think his desire to bring a championship to Ferrari ultimately brings him back another year. But I don't think you see him at Ferrari after 2020
Shiiiiit Ferrari isn't getting past Mercedes any time soon. The gap between those two is about as big as the gap between Red Bull and whoever the hell is #4.
This is the thing. For years Mercedes has had more power. Ferrari better handling car and thus they just needed to be quicker. Now Ferrari has the engine but sacrificed handling. I don't know if the gap is that wide or not. But Ferrari has done everything wrong this season. Mercedes hasn't put a foot wrong. 2019 is over.
