McLaren not winning a drivers or constructors title this year... would that be the biggest choke job in F1 history? Its got to be very high on the list.
One of you commented on having to listen to Danica (I learned from y'all she dropped out of HS, who could have known), anyway I get my F1 from the superior delivery of F1 TV and don't have to listen to her. So with all the Max tendencies being discussed somebody mentioned Brazil 21. I'm watching that now and I have to ask, since this race is in the year of 2021 where are their Expo 2020 Dubai?
not winning constructors yes, not winning drivers no. Max was Maxing pretty hard at the beginning of the year.
Eh Lando has had the fastest car most of the year. If you switch Max and Lando, Max would still win the WDC
Maybe. But love him or hate him Max is a phenomenal driver that will do whatever necessary to win. Most drivers might not be quite cut from that same cloth. I think Lando is a solid driver and will get there one day, but Max is something else entirely. And for the record, I don't like Max, just respect his talent and skills.
Lando is not in his class and that shouldn’t be the expectation. With that said Lando was trailing by 52 points going into Miami then the McLaren put its stamp as best car that weekend on. 5 races - 52 point gap 15 races since - 47 point gap He’s had the best car for 3/4 of the season and only trimmed the lead 5 points.
WTF and how does this infusion of capital matter with cost caps? McLaren is for sale, and as of this week, the automaker has already entered a non-binding agreement. Provided everything goes as planned, Abu Dhabi-based CYVN Holdings, an investor in smart and advanced mobility solutions, will be the new owners of McLaren. Spoiler The new partnership will result in 100% of McLaren’s automotive business being transferred to the care of CYVN Holdings, including the McLaren’s Formula 1 team, McLaren Racing, which is currently owned by Mumtalakat, the sovereign wealth fund of Bahrain. McLaren is for sale, and as of this week, the automaker has already entered a non-binding agreement. The new partnership will result in 100% of McLaren’s automotive business being transferred to the care of CYVN Holdings, including the McLaren’s Formula 1 team, McLaren Racing, which is currently owned by Mumtalakat, the sovereign wealth fund of Bahrain. The press release states that the “prospective deal would see CYVN Holdings bring new capital investment, deep industry expertise and pioneering technology to McLaren.” A statement from Mumtalakat confirms that the deal, once finalized, would also give CYVN Holdings a non-controlling stake in McLaren Group. “This transformative investment by CYVN Holdings would bring access to additional capital, advanced engineering expertise and pioneering technology, particularly in the field of electric vehicles,” Mumtalakat wrote. McLaren was founded by New Zealander Bruce McLaren in 1963. The team made its first F1 appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1966, making McLaren Racing the second-oldest active team and the second-most successful Formula One team after Ferrari, having won 188 races, 12 Drivers’ Championships, and eight Constructors’ Championships. The additional capital, advanced engineering expertise, and electric vehicle technologies that CYVN Holdings can offer would reportedly benefit the automaker and build on the brand’s reputation and contribute to future success in motorsports. Currently, McLaren is leading the 2024 Formula 1 season with its drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri racing to the top of the points leaderboard. On the high-performance supercar production side of the business, the luxury automaker introduced the 740-horsepower 750S supercar earlier this year, a lighter, more powerful successor to the 720S. In other news, the company also recently built a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda that screams Mopar, which was revealed at the Formula 1 race at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Texas. Him losing the lead in turn 1 like 5 times isn't on McLaren, him crashing with Max in Austria isn't on McLaren. Him not knowing how to race Max repeatedly is on him. There have only been like 2 times you could blame McLaren.
Lmao, do you think no one has ever passed Max without being wrecked? Lando actually did a nice job this past weekend of forcing Max to be so aggressive that he would get the penalty instead of letting Max just stick to the letter of the law like he did in Austin.
I think that snippet is wrong/misleading. McLaren Group owns all of McLaren Automotive and the majority of McLaren Racing. Sounds like McLaren Group is selling McLaren Automotive to CYVN, who is then also taking a smaller ownership stake in McLaren Group (and indirectly McLaren Racing). The bulk of this change is going to impact the supercar business, not the racing teams.
gonna piss people off in this thread saying this i'm sure, but do we have a yearly Senna suck-off every time brazil comes around? i figured with the anniversary last year it was a one time occurrence, but the whole drivers standing next to each other in a moment of silence thing, the big deal about hamilton driving his mclaren after qualifying, etc. you'd think his death was on the level of 9/11 or pearl harbor. /hot take
If you haven’t watched “Senna” do so. The continued reverence is definitely a product of his popularity and status as greatest South American (Brazilian) driver in history in the only race in South America (Brazil). It’s not meant to appease Americans new to the sport in the last five years (like me).
“Lando do you feel confident in your ability to battle max for the championship?” “I don’t care, I hate these questions.” It is, indeed, all too much for little Lando Norris.
Why would he want to go to a team that hasn't won a race in the past 10 races? Pfft. Red Bull warshed.
Seen a Kym Illman video on Brazil before and the security they all gotta have there due to the crime. There and Mexico are pretty rough and the teams go all out for protection.
I believe all the transportation last week in Mexico were bullet proof SUVs, F1 tv had some pics and said something about it
Seems a little overkill. If they fucked with any of these teams, it would create an international incident that they probably don't want
Found this article backing up what you said. Hope Max doesn't destroy him. Also, his grandfather died Thursday nighjt. Speculation mounts over Franco Colapinto future as seismic Red Bull claim made Story by Thomas Maher • 7h • 4 min read A prominent Argentinean journalist has claimed Franco Colapinto to Red Bull is a done deal for F1 2025. The Argentinian driver is at the heart of late silly season speculation, with the Williams driver proving highly impressive as a rookie since replacing Logan Sargeant after the summer break. Spoiler ‘Franco Colapinto to join Red Bull’ claim made With a vacant seat at the VCARB squad for F1 2025, speculation has run rampant over who might slot into the seat alongside Yuki Tsunoda next season. Added to that speculation is the uncertainty over what’s happening with Sergio Perez, as Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has said a decision on the main team’s line-up will be made after this season. Perez has struggled for form and consistency throughout F1 2024, with his points score costing Red Bull a strong challenge for this year’s Constructors’ Championship, and the possibility of Perez being replaced has not been firmly denied by senior Red Bull figures. While Perez has put the message out that his two-year contract extension with Red Bull, signed earlier this year, is watertight, team boss Christian Horner has spoken at length about how F1 is a results-based business – his comments following Perez’s home race in Mexico notably failing to reassure Perez of his future with the team. With both Horner and Marko making it clear that Colapinto is of interest to Red Bull as an organisation, PlanetF1.com understands Horner met with Williams team boss James Vowles on Friday to discuss securing the services of the Argentinean for the future. The Red Bull boss was spotted in the Williams motorhome on Friday, with Vowles later quipping that Horner had been there to sample the coffee of a new Williams partner. Later on Friday, Argentine journalist Ruben Daray posted on the A Todo Motor social media channel to claim Colapinto has already been signed by Red Bull. “More than a month ago, ‘A Todo Motor’ gave you the absolute scoop that Colapinto was going to be in Formula 1 until the end of the year,” Daray said. “Well, today is Friday, [and] I’m letting you know that, at this moment, Colapinto is already Red Bull’s number two driver for 2025. “[An] exclusive scoop of ‘A Todo Motor’! I am really happy that an Argentinean, Franco Colapinto, is in a team as important as Red Bull”. Further speculation was fuelled via teasing posts on X by Red Bull Argentina and ByBit Argentina (a Red Bull Racing sponsor). PlanetF1.com understands that, while negotiations to land Colapinto are underway, a Red Bull deal is nowhere close to completion and, even with all the pieces falling into place, sources have indicated a successful deal being made could take weeks to agree. The understanding is that Red Bull is not the only interested party in Colapinto’s services and that the other interested party is not Sauber – the only other team on the grid with a vacant seat for F1 2025 – thus suggesting something of a tug-of-war is currently underway to secure Colapinto. The Argentian, the first driver from his country since the lacklustre Gaston Mazzacane over 20 years ago, has scored two points finishes from his five race weekends so far, scoring five points to teammate Alex Albon’s 12. More pertinently, Colapinto has proven himself a close match for Albon and has even outperformed the more experienced British-Thai racer despite his lack of preparation and seat time in the Williams. With Albon being a known quantity for Red Bull, due to his background as a Red Bull driver (for both teams) and reserve, this sheds further insight into Colapinto’s strengths to the squad, and the perception of his quality. While Colapinto is of interest to Red Bull, sources have indicated it’s not yet clear whether the intention is to secure the Argentinian for a seat with VCARB or Red Bull Racing – further muddying the waters as the season winds down. More on Red Bull in Formula 1 All the mid-season driver swaps Red Bull have made in their F1 history Inside Red Bull: Christian Horner and the other major players in Red Bull’s hierarchy Also of interest for Red Bull is the commercial aspect – Perez’s wealthy backer Carlos Slim has indicated the possibility that his roster of companies is open to sponsoring Colapinto. With Red Bull recently announcing an expanded deal with fellow telecommunications firm AT&T for F1 2025, it is possible that Telmex will cease direct involvement with the Milton Keynes-based outfit to avoid having two competing sponsors attached to the team. A decision is expected to be taken next month, with Slim Domit confirming Telmex “always intends” to continue its sponsorship of Perez. He has raised the prospect of adding Colapinto to the company’s portfolio, having previously backed the likes of Bruno Senna, Pietro Fittipaldi, and Esteban Gutierrez in addition to Perez. Quizzed on a potential link-up with Colapinto, Slim Domit told ESPN: “We have been with many drivers many times. “If there was an opportunity to talk about something with Franco, it would not be anything related to Checo [Perez]. “We always seek to support Latin American drivers, Franco is doing very well. “But without a doubt, our important project has always been to continue building the development of Mexican drivers and Checo, without a doubt, is the one who represents us all.” Perez is expected to remain in the Red Bull cockpit until the end of the season, despite suggestions he could be replaced following the Brazilian Grand Prix.
