Vettel is definitely the guy that most people miscast early on and then learn to appreciate more as they go on. He is very introverted and sometimes he gets misinterpreted as whiny or ambivalent. He was supposed to be the next Schumacher when he went to Ferrari and that was never going to be the case with his personality. He along with Lewis are the most outspoken on social issues and he seems to more or less mentor the younger drivers if they are looking for it.
This is very true and was the case for me too. In the years I've been following everything I've seen that he is a really thoughtful guy who has a good moral compass.
Next season is going to be such a shit show ITT with dblplay1212 joining. Him vs Bankz going to have me all
I dislike him for that shit where they had his teammate let him pass with the agreement he'd let him pass back and then he was like fuck you sucker and disregarded the instructions from the box. Again, you guys know way more about these guys. The DTS guys just see small things and that was his most prominent interaction on the show.
I really like what he had to say wrt the race in Saudi Arabia (which is also a hot button topic in golf obviously). Paraphrasing a lot here, but basically said if you want to make any difference in these people's lives you can't approach it with a Western point of view and that you need to go there and listen first and find ways to lead by example that will reach them. As opposed to going there and imposing your values and outright dismissing anything that doesn't conform to our way of life. If any golfer said "look, if the tour is going to send me here to play I'll take the money and here is what I hope to accomplish so future generations have it better than they do now" I don't think there would be much pushback. Unfortunately those that have tried to go down that road haven't felt even one millionth as sincere as Seb
Seb is the best. His episode on the F1 podcast was quite enjoyable. It’s clear he loves F1, and wants to see the next generation succeed. He also really cares about “earth” I know comes off as somewhat a silly thing to say but between his beehive buildings around all the tracks, his focus on F1’s sustainable fuel program, and him doing litter pick ups at tracks. I feel he does things out of his heart, not for press. Honestly, if you really want to get a read on him. Just watch any video with him and Mick. Michael was Seb’s idol, and I think he really took care of guiding Seb along the way. Seb is making sure to do the same for Mick, and you can just tell that it comes from love. No question about it.
Do you guys all have a top tier team and then a mid tier team? Or do you pick one, and if it's mid tier, just know your best day will be a podium and no shot at consistently competing? Trying to line up my allegiance and want to pick wisely. Stellantis has an early advantage bc they own Jeep.
I don’t think people hate Lewis because he’s won. Max outside of this season hasn’t won much and a lot of people don’t like him. I feel like a lot of fans I know personally and even in this thread base love/hate of drivers based on driving style and personality via radio and post race interviews.
guess you can if you want, some teams are more likable than others, but there isn't really one I actively root against either
Just watch and figure out whose style you like and whose personality you like and then base your decision off that? IDK. Also there is plenty of
Oh I’m just giving you a hard time for me, Pierre was sent to RB too early, and demoted too quickly. Then he lost his best friend. His journey in becoming the top driver at AT and the build to victory in Monza were just a great story of recovery and perseverance. It hit home for me as I had just overcome some personal struggles around that time and was pretty inspiring. and for Bottas? I just want to have a beer with him. I was indifferent on him until the middle of this past year. When it became public that he wasn’t re-signing with Merc, he just turned on this Office Space type vibe and it was glorious.
My like and dislike is random. Early on in my fandom I latched on to the Merc development drivers and have gone from there. Part of the reason why I dislike Perez is because he was a bitch of a teammate towards Ocon and haven't gotten past that.
It’s a sport dominated by billionaire sociopaths, and we are supposed to have a rhyme or reason to why we like or dislike someone?
I mostly just enjoy the storylines and the racing, I don’t really root for a winner although I did root for Max this year. I’m also a dork who loves to read up on all the tech in the cars
Gasly is a talented driver who has a good redemption arc going, but I wouldn’t call him likable. He apparently didn’t impress the Red Bull heads, and if rumors are true he really got on the wrong side of Newey. Couple that with his unnecessarily disparaging remarks toward Perez mid season that were really uncalled for. Sergio was still wrangling the 2nd RB, while doing better than Gasly did in the same position with the same amount of races, while Gasly was fully at home back at AT. It tells a lot about how much he’s spoiled his chances at RB considering what RB have done for Albon recently. Hell Albon still has a chance at RB if he shows well.
Checo is famous for his Sunday driving. Between his managing of tires, and overtaking/defense abilities he really is a great driver on a Sunday. Yeah he's not as good on Saturday, and that's hurt him but I think RB will adjust to that and maybe change up the strategies for him and Max on Saturdays to help ensure he's up the grid to take advantage of those Sunday skills. Bottas might be in the top 3 as far as Saturday drivers, curious to see how it translates with Alfa this year. Was it man or machine? Same goes for George. He's "Mr Saturday" but has being a back marker for the last couple years changed his race craft. It's going to be such an interesting season this year with the new car and the changes in the driver line ups.
I think they are both flawed drivers and the minute that Red Bull can find a viable replacement they will. Let's be honest, with Riccardo behind the wheel of that car they win the constructors easily.
He struggled early but finished okay. He won the only race for McLaren. Put him in the RB last year and might have finished 3rd in driver's points.
Perhaps, but that RB from the last two years isn’t the car Daniel drove. It was highly tuned for Max and Daniel saw that trend begin 3+ years ago. Riccardo’s bad year really shows that he’s not the top tier driver everyone remembers from the RB days. Almost like changing teams ain’t easy, especially when you grew up in one teams junior program.
I think its fair to say this about Daniel. I'm not ready just yet to say it's over, he will need a big season to regain my faith.
This is why the sport is fantastic. Most people base like/dislike on everything but the actual results.
I think there are like 4 drivers that can just drop into any team and not expect a significant drop off in form: Lewis, Charles, Max, and Fernando (to the extent they are still able to get max performance out of the car) Everyone else is going to show at best inconsistent form.
This big reset with the ‘22 cars will be fascinating when it comes to teams like McLaren and Red Bull that had a big disparity between drivers.
