Yep. Colleague and I were just farting around on there and looking and different numbers and those jumped out. Not surprising when you know the name abut damn it's still such a huge flip in a short time . He just completely fell apart after 30.
I'm in favor of robot umps, but I'm going to laugh when people freak out over what is a strike via robot umps compared to the boxes we see on TV.
Elite shirtless fan Not painted up or anything. Just wearing jeans with a belt and no shirt just because
Ohtani’s 3rd unanimous MVP - first player ever. Absolutely incredible. We’ll never see anything like him again.
If they’re going to replace umps with robots they might as well go ahead and replace pitchers with pitching machines that can replicate arm slots. Would save a lot of injuries and fans can still celebrate exit velocities and launch angles
No greater thrill in the game than when a pitcher squared to sacrifice bunt with 2 strikes and the ump rang him up on a ball outside the zone. SMH.
A Wikipedia read and baseball reference review leads me to believe that he will incrementally improve our pitching staff. India will probably do the same for your team. Wiemer sucks. Pleasure doing business.
He was a main guy 2 years ago then we grabbed 2-3 guys that were better. He’s a really solid option for down the staff.
We obviously need depth but am curious how our staff shakes out. We have a ton of guys that are extremely average and I guess it'll be a contest of who can last the most innings in a game for the 4 & 5 spot.
Our super regional in 2017 had a bunch of rain delays, the umpires had just called for another one and that meant Singer was done given how long he'd have to sit.
Sinker/Slider pitcher. Spent years trying to get him to throw a change, years trying to add a 4 seamer, he just reverts to those 2. In saying that he can’t go through an order 3 times. Minnow merchant. Dominated sub .500 teams gets blown up vs good teams. Mental toughness of a sea sponge. Went from being our top guy in 23 to pitching against 1 batter in the entire playoff run this year. In saying that, he will eat innings for you and completely dominate those bad line ups. The sinker/slider movement and placement will have you drooling….then he’ll give up a big hit vs a good team and start throwing BP while he cries.
The bottom portion of our staff is so bad that it seems like he at least somewhat improves our team. The problem is he’ll probably be one of our go to relievers but I’ll take any improvement.
Who do we go? Greene Lodolo (if healthy el o el) Abott Singer Lowder Martinez back to swing man Pagan spires ashcraft Diaz
You traded for a starter but if you could convince him to be a bullpen piece (doubt that’s possible with his attitude) his sinker/slider ticked up 2-3 mph would be completely unhittable. I thought that’s what we’d do in the playoffs, bring him in and absolutely shut down 2 innings. Instead he faced 1 batter. Kind of tells you what the managerial staff thought of him in big moments.
Also, Brady was Shit Merrifields mini-me in our embarrassing Covid vaccine opt out scandal. Huge maga/trumper chud so moving away from the liberal bastion that is Kansas to Ohio might improve his game.
India seemed to be a well liked guy in the locker room so it sounds like you've upgraded in that department
.360 OBP compared to our lead off .260 OBP last year will make sure Bob doesn’t lose another MVP to a little league field stat padder.
My biggest worry about Brady, 200 IP at a 3.70 ERA is a pitcher every organization wants. But his xERA is 4.65. Is he good or is that giant outfield and BWJ saving him? If the Refs can get him to throw a 3rd pitch 20% of the time it could be a great deal.
When you follow anything resembling SEC baseball you know not to check up on said political views. Like I legit bet the vax rate in 2021 might've hit 20% for the entire leaue. Not being a dick just facts, well off white guys are just fucking delusional.
I think the question is whether they're capable of continuing what Houston got out of him, or if he'll just revert back to being average or worse. I get it in the sense that they need to fill innings and he's generally been very durable throughout his MLB career. I'm also assuming they paid a little extra to sign someone who wasn't tied to draft compensation, which for a rebuilding team was probably the right call. They're still a mess but I kind of get it from their end.
I just have no faith in teams that spend (good for the angels for doing that) but have no track record or history of getting the most out of their players through analytics, coaching, development, etc
That's obviously a very reasonable concern, but at that point we're saying it doesn't matter what they do because it will all end up being stupid and not working. And while that's probably going to end up being the case as long as Arte keeps them in hell like this, I think a deal like this makes some sense if he's at least competent and healthy. Would also help if they front loaded the money a bit, too.
He’s the third mid-30s player (plus Soler) they’ve acquired this offseason, but none of them are really difference makers. It’s not a heinous bet on him being a 8ish win guy over that term but I don’t know what use they have for a 2.5 win pitcher unless they have to hit 70 wins for some reason or another. Surely they’re not fooling themselves into thinking they’re competitive with these spare parts being bolted on
What's the alternative? I don't really understand the Canning for Soler trade for them, but someone needs to throw those innings and tanking isn't an option any more. I would hope they're still searching for upside plays and whatnot, but I also don't think bringing in people like Kikuchi, d'Arnaud and Soler is costing them anything besides money.
