It was a joke. Ryen Russillo and Bill Simmons think they’re the only ones who watch nba games and everyone else just follows for drama.
Three freed-up spots on the 40-man for SP/OF and there's reason to believe in a Bummer bounceback. His BABIP the last two seasons has been pretty harsh.
just dumping roster spots hoping bummer hits probably a no winner trade other than atl freeing up 40 man spots
soroka’s career disintegrating because of freak injuries really sucks. he looked like a future stud as a rookie and it all fell apart immediately shewmake and shuster aren’t really mlb players, soroka was gonna get non tendered today and i like nicky lopez but we probably weren’t gonna pay a backup ss $4m fine with taking a flyer on someone who’s had good results in the past for that
I get it but this sucks. I think if he was healthy this year that he would have had a good look at a Cy and now he's gone.
It's weird how there was a labor stoppage in large part because teams stopped giving out these kinds of deals, and ever since the new CBA teams are just giving out 6+ year deals like they're candy. Nothing against Nola, who is a very good pitcher, but I'm curious how long this lasts.
I feel like giving these deals to guys like Nola never stopped, it was the tier below that stopped getting them.
This is true, but I'm still shocked by the length of these deals and how easily they're being given out. Maybe it's just because Boras slows the process down so much that I'm looking at it wrong, but the last few offseasons there just doesn't seem to be anywhere close to the resistance there used to be on 6+ year deals. Especially for guys already 30+ like Nola. And it seemed to start the month before the CBA expired with those deals for Seager, Semien, etc.
I really really wish Acuna and Albies would hold out. I know that doesn't happen in MLB but they both should.
it will be interesting if the Phillies give Harper an extension to adjust him closer to market-value this offseason, if that sets any kind of precedent that might lead to holdouts.
I'm hopeful we renegotiate Acuna soon. Nothing really to say about it, they're egregiously low, but sorry your players don't love their team enough.
sure it's not that bad, but I think it puts him outside of the top 25 players. when Harper signed he didn't put any outs in his contract (which pissed Boras off) and I think it was always kind of agreed between Harper and Middleton that if the time came where the market moved enough to warrant an adjustment, the Phillies would take care of him.
Looks like he was 20th this year, and a few of them were 1 year huge numbers to old SP. He should be in the md 30's, but like I said, not super egregious. Good on the Phillies if they extend him and raise it but I don't think they are asshole for keeping it where it is either. But good lord at some of those in front of him. https://frontofficesports.com/who-are-the-highest-paid-baseball-players/ Angels 3B Anthony Rendon: $38,571,428 Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg: $35,000,000
When you sign a 13-year deal, you're automatically taking a significant hit on the AAV. I don't really see what the threat would be that would force Philly to do something like that, and the Phillies would be under massive pressure from the league not to budge in that scenario.
I’m not gonna sit here and argue that Acuña’s contract is good for him. However, we bought out all of his pre-arbitration years giving him more salary than he would have gotten just buy renewing his contract for a couple years. Obviously, he vastly underpaid now. He’s making $17m now and should probably be at least $10-12 more annually. Gotta think we’ll take care of that sooner than later. Albies will probably get an extension either this offseason or during the season, I’d imagine. This is the last guaranteed year of his contract. We have two club options at $7m, but I think AA realizes Ozzie has outperformed those numbers and will reward him soon enough.
he could have signed a similar deal and put in opt outs though I'm sure. Middleton has talked openly about making sure Bryce is happy so I don't think he really cares about the pressure from the league. we'll see what happens but I expect something to happen this offseason.
$10m more? My man Judge just got $40m per year. Acuna should be in that ballpark, definitely $35m+. Albies have FOUR MORE YEARS at $7m per. The Braves have been cool with fucking him and Acuna up until now but you think they'll do right by them now? lol ok.
It's really annoying that Atlanta got those deals, but I'd rather focus my rage about them on the agents who negotiated and allowed their clients to sign them. Because those are the people who can fuck off. The Braves are just the beneficiaries of their malpractice/corruption.
Oh I agree, shame on the agents. Shitty small agent pressured him into signing a deal before the player switched to a bigger agent. But shame on the Braves for allowing it to happen and willingly participating.
