Wait, allen getting the "joel embiid MVP" (after narrowly losing out to jokic 2x before) is controversial?
unless you are deep into Ravens reddit or ESPN First Take, I don't think so. Most football people think it was a coin flip, as bore out by the voting.
if NFL MVP is the regular season award it describes itself as: the MVP was decided in the divisional round (which is fine, but lets admit it). Otherwise (outside of rush TDs) almost all the reg season stats tilt Lamar's way. Also lol at the voter who had Jackson as 4th.
It's a black QB and a white QB up for the same thing in America in 2025. I don't think "not controversial" was an option here for a lot of people.
wasn't the stat comparison basically flipped last year and Lamar won? I have a hard time getting too worked up about MVP awards but I think this year's vote was definitely affected by last year's.
Allen had 44 TDs rush/pass last year compared to 29 for Lamar. He also threw for 600+ more yards. He also threw 18 INTs compared to 7 for Lamar, which is why Allen didn't win it. Lamar probably should have won it this year. I agree that him winning last year probably gave Allen the tiebreaker for enough people this year for one reason or another.
i think Jackson 2, Allen 1 is a fair tally after the last few seasons. I also advocated for Embiid to win his one over Jokic getting his 3rd straight. Theres not enough MVPs to go around. Its fine.
Lamar vs Allen isn't really even an interesting argument, both are great, its a dumb award for QBs only, who cares that being said I am glad to see the HOF voters had some common sense and kept Eli's bum ass out of Canton
I didn't know until a bunch of tweets about it last night that they changed the HOF voting methods because people were complaining about too many people getting in over the last 10-15 years.
Especially when Joe Burrow walked off the field in his final game as potentially a unanimous MVP and then in his pajamas fell off most people's top 3
Allen's Box Adjusted Plus/Minus was better but Jackson had the better Weighted On Base Average, could have gone either way
