Hope Oscar has his elbows out the rest of the way. Could be some incredible drama as both guys stretch for the finish line knowing the other teams have caught up (and it’s a new car next year anyway right?) and this might be their once chance for a WDC.

McLaren has fucked this up week after week. I’m sure the message is loud and clear, and lesson was learned. If Lando pulls something again, I’d guess he’ll end up in the wall.

Taking all that out of the equation, he lost 3+ seconds in the pits, due to team error & only finished 2.08 seconds behind. It was 95 degrees & no one in the world gives a damn about Zak’s platitudes.

I think he’s just adhered to the team dynamic more strictly, but he also has the benefit of the lead in the championship. Lando will need to take more risk to close the gap. He’ll adjust

You left out Lando being held up behind Max for 15 laps while Oscar had mostly clear air as the reason he only finished 2 seconds back.

Why didn’t Lando just go around Max then? 15 laps is a lot, in a rocket ship.

The point was Oscar ran out of laps, due to the pit mishap, and got 0 laps to pass

Because it's very difficult to pass in Singapore without the car in front either having a technical problem or a massive tire offset. Oscar and Lando had very similar pace, but Lando was definitely held up by Max.

But you already know that, you're just being weird.

And the McClaren isn't the rocket ship it was early in the year. But again, you know that.

Lando passes max if Lando doesn’t lose 1.5s because he’s a child who doesn’t know how to adapt to dirty air.

Had there been time to catch up, it would have likely been a DRS Train. I'm not suggesting or arguing that Oscar would have passed either Lando or Max.

Oscar found out rules not applied or followed equally, dealt with a team fuckup that prevented him from even pressuring the 2 cars ahead & unplugged his audio

Pouting is what Lando did on that sand dune, at Zandvoort

Would he trade the damage for the track position gained? He also had a tire offset, we can go all day...

The damage was in relation to the fact you said Verstappen had damage. They both did

Not nearly enough of an offset to make a difference.

As a result bull fan and supreme McLaren hater I’d like nothing more than an epic collapse where max wins wdc, but I can’t see it happening with today’s result being single digit gains. He has to average +10.5/weekend to tie. 6 gp, 3 sprints, 174 max points available = max 447 for Max, gap is 63. Oscar is on 336.

i feel like that leaves out a decent amount of issues on the norris end to make the point (though i don't have the receipts) and obviously is presented in bias towards oscar.

there's a lot behind closed doors and in briefings that we're not privy to factoring in to how the drivers are reacting and discussing this on the radios when they happen. that thread does bring up a number of issues oscar has called into question over team decisions and their "rules" over the course of the season and how they aren't following what's been dictated, and how mclaren seemingly keeps changing them situationally on him on the fly while asking him to always help lando out. i get the frustration. it can be a good, albeit a bit reckless, racing move by lando while still going against the established rules piastri and lando have been told to adhere to. oscar got a lot of crap after his aggressive monza move on lando last year that cost them a place to leclerc, and now that they've neutered their drivers from being aggressive around each other it would be frustrating to see your rival get aggressive on you and then have the team say its all good. they're moving the needle on the fly on him.

if oscar doesn't step up his aggressiveness here on out though he's a moron. he's been too tame lately (probably due to the team admonishing him) and its clear lando will be more aggressive now. hopefully we finally get the battle between the two we deserve now and mclaren pounds sand.

Yeah who would’ve guessed McLaren had a shot of winning the constructors title. Definitely a shocking moment that you couldn’t predict and had to scramble to provide a celebration for TV.

The only believe piece from that video was Oscar being so pissed at his team that he shut off his radio coms, Zack being so stupid that he would then attempt to speak with Oscar knowing coms we’re shut off.

This is where we camped last year. Hoping to get the same spot or similar. It’s a blast if you ever get the chance. I’ve been going since 2002 and it’s been a favorite along with Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Fun to see some former F1 guys in person.

who's running this weekend? WEC? That would be cool. I've started watching other racing "leagues" or whatever. Pretty wild at all the variations of and kinds of cars.
This year I kinda got more appreciative of Indy and how they don't seem to be as "delicate" as the F1 cars

I've got a kid moving to ATX and hope to go see a couple of races over the next couple of years

this is IMSA, the US counterpart to WEC. Lots of crossover with teams and drivers.

some former F1 drivers that are racing:
    K Mag
    Grosjean
    Kyvat
    Paul Di Resta

While I’m a huge F1 fan, multi class racing is still my favorite. There are 4 different classes and 53 cars so it makes for a ton of overtaking.

If you have a VPN it’s broadcast for free on YouTube or IMSA.tv. Or on Peacock in the US (with an insane amount of ads)

Petronas’ CEO and president, Tengku Muhammad Taufik, has issued an apology amidst criticisms within Malaysia for his part in Mercedes’ podium celebrations in Singapore last weekend.
Taufik was the representative sent up onto the podium for Mercedes at Marina Bay last weekend, collecting the Constructors’ trophy for the team following George Russell’s controlled victory at the Singapore Grand Prix.

    What did Petronas’ CEO do?
Taufik is the president and CEO of Petronas, Mercedes’ title sponsor and fuel supplier, a Malaysian state-owned multinational oil and gas company.

With no Malaysian Grand Prix on the calendar, the Singapore GP is the nearest event, with Taufik selected as the representative of the Mercedes team to accept the plaudits on the podium.

As part of the celebrations, Taufik was sprayed with champagne and also joined in dousing Russell, as well as fellow podium-finishers Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, with the traditional alcoholic beverage.

However, his engagement with alcohol – an intoxicant viewed as haram by Muslims – has resulted in criticism and condemnation in Malaysia, where Islam is the predominant religion with some 63 per cent of the population.

Taufik said he was honoured to receive the trophy on behalf of the Mercedes team, but admitted that his actions during the post-race celebrations might have been “misplaced”.
The recent victory at the Singapore Grand Prix was a much-awaited achievement in our long-standing strategic partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team in this season,” he said.

“I felt honoured when I was invited to receive the Winning Constructor Trophy on the team’s behalf.

“However, I acknowledge that my spontaneous, spur-of-the-moment exuberance in celebrating that moment of victory may have been misplaced.

“While I can categorically state I did not consume any alcohol, as a Muslim, I should have been more aware of the sensitivities associated with taking part in such celebrations. Accordingly, I want to apologise for any unintended offence caused and take full responsibility for my actions.

“On behalf of Petronas, permit me to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the continued support of our participation in what is the pinnacle of motorsports competition. The successes we deliver now and in the upcoming era of sustainable fuels will indeed bear testimony to Malaysian innovation and capabilities.”

While the furore is likely to calm, particularly in light of Taufik’s apology, some conservative political parties within Malaysia show no sign of accepting Taufik’s apology, with the arts, culture, and sports bureau chairperson for the Amanah party, Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim, urging Petronas to take internal action against Taufik.

As quoted by Malaysia Kini, Wan Anwar said internal action would prevent a repeat of Taufik’s behaviour and that an explanation of Taufik being overwhelmed by the excitement of victory was insufficient.

“It is even more disappointing that this Muslim happens to be a Malay who leads a respected national organisation – Petronas,” he said.

“Why is there absolutely no sensitivity on such an issue, especially when he is fully aware that he represents the image of a respected Islamic nation in the eyes of the world?” Wan Anwar, who pointed out that Petronas’ previous leaders had always been mindful of Islamic sensitivities, both domestically and internationally.

The youth arm of the Bersatu political party, Armada, also “condemned the actions” of Taufik, saying, “As a Malay Islamic corporate leader representing a Malaysian state-owned company, he should have shown greater sensitivity on the podium, especially in an international context.

“The incident was seen as embarrassing for the country, especially since he was wearing his official Petronas attire when he was sprayed with alcohol.

“Armada emphasised that the use of alcohol should not be normalised within the government or GLCs. Although the champagne shower is a racing tradition, Islamic leaders should leave the podium during the activity and return after the event is over to take pictures with the winners.

“Armada is proud of the Petronas team’s achievements but emphasises that the nation’s dignity must be upheld, especially in the eyes of other Islamic leaders involved in Formula 1, including Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

“Armada hopes that the Prime Minister will issue a stern warning to all ministries and government agencies.”

Apple, F1 preparing to announce rights deal
    Story by David Satin
    • 7h
The two sides are reportedly aiming for the US Grand Prix on Oct. 19 to announce their agreement.

The next Formula 1 media deal is having a bit of trouble getting off the starting line. The deal to sell American broadcast rights to F1 was reportedly all but complete in July, but no official announcement has been handed down. Thanks to a new report, we now have a pretty concrete hint about what’s happening between Apple and F1, and when fans can expect official word from the two sides that their deal is official.

    Key Details:
    • Not long now: F1 and Apple will reportedly announce their deal officially at the U.S. Grand Prix on Oct. 19.
    • F1 TV in the balance: The fate of F1 TV has held up the announcement until now.
    • Nice price jump: F1 will make $140 million per year for its rights.
According to John Ourand of Puck News, Apple and F1 are planning to announce their broadcast deal officially at the U.S. Grand Prix race in Houston, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 19. The stateside race is the perfect venue for consummating a new deal for American broadcast rights.

Ourand says that most aspects of the deal have been decided for some time now. Apple will pay $140 million per season to stream races in the United States, which is a major increase for the league from the $90 million per year that it received from ESPN to broadcast races.

The sticking point in getting the deal in front of the public has been the eventual future of the F1 TV direct-to-consumer service, according to Ourand. F1 has been reluctant to shut down the service, whereas Apple didn’t really feel too enthused about paying almost $150 million per year to share domestic F1 rights.

Ourand reports that it’s “not entirely clear” where the issue landed between the two sides, so the fate of F1 TV might not be known until the two sides officially announce their deal. The Streamable can foresee a future where Apple itself takes over F1 TV, but all options are seemingly on the table for the platform as of now. It would be a surprise if F1 was able to continue F1 TV without making any changes — a company like Apple doesn’t get strongarmed all that often — but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Regardless, it appears that resolution is finally around the corner for F1 and Apple. The two sides appear poised to announce their new broadcast deal in the coming weeks and have reportedly circled the U.S. Grand Prix on Oct. 19 as the day to make their new partnership public.
