Ok I guess owning a baseball team for the summers in Minnesota and basketball team for the winter in Phoenix sounds cool, but how would you find time to post on message boards?
Bregman is gone. Time to replace him with 3 different players and not get outfield help or pitchers! Duh.
It's insane that Houston had all that success, and then (assuming Bregman is gone) let literally all of the core players who hit FA walk out the door while also trading Tucker before he could do so. It might not end up killing them because a lot of these deals end up being bad, but I would be so pissed if I was a fan for them letting all my guys walk for nothing after all they did while the team is still good enough to win.
the kind of move you make when you decide you need a reboot but that you can’t tell your fans that’s what you’re doing
I could see Vlad ending up with $100M+ more than this or $150M less than this on the open market in a year depending on which version of him shows up the longest in 2025.
That Springs deal is really weird. He's good and seems like he's fully back to healthy, but he's also 32.
The A’s are such absolute dickheads. You just know their idiot owner thinks Vegas will suddenly embrace them because they’re making moves now. Fuck off
If Houston keeps losing guys, they have a shot at winning that division next year. The Central and West are going to be a mid-off all season while the Angels and White Sox both lose 110 games
Those who pay attention to the team knew it was over when Bagwell started making decisions. Analytics went out the door.
KC has one of those in the clubhouse (not sure if exactly the same or not), my assumption is most teams do. Pretty cool tech.
Letting all these guys go instead of paying for them seems more like an analytics move than an old school move, though. The analytics say that Bregman for 7 years is a horrible idea. The old school guy who played for only the Astros his entire career would seem more likely to pay that to keep them. That's what is surprising to me as much as anything.
I agree with that but it all started with letting Correa and Springer walk (probably the right moves) under Click then bringing Verlander back after crane canned click. Those were the big ones that shaped where they’re at. Now they’re just making it up. And I am team let Bregman walk. Crane clearly won’t pay a contract over a certain amount which is becoming irrational in this new market that the Mets and Dodgers have reset.
Am I crazy or is that an overpay for a guy who is coming back from a back injury and has had his FIP increase each year over the last three years? Both of those guys are top 50 prospects.
Always making the "right" move financially ends up gutting your team of its core. Maybe they can replace guys like the Rays did for so long, just weird seeing a non-small market club do it. If I were an Astros fan, I'd be pretty upset seeing that 2020 whatever roster era just let walk. They went through some really dark times to build all that talent and then just let it go as they hit FA.
Cassie has been one of my favorite prospects in the system for 3 years now. I rather hold onto him...
Yeah seems to be an overpay. I wonder if it’s some smoke to try and get the mariners to move off one of their starters. I think that’s the much more preferable option for the cubs
I heard on the radio that teams are now required to spend 1.5 X’s the revenue share or the MLBPA can file a grievance. The number they quoted was $105 million. Sounds like it’s something new.
This time is gonna be different! In theory though- Sox are gonna be awful again this year and get the 2026 #1 pick while also selling off Louis Robert plus anything we dumpster dive this year while adding another draft class/international class the 2027 White Sox might be in an incredibly legit place with basically zero payroll and a loaded farm hopefully under a new owner I’ll be 40 so ya maybe I’ll finally get to go to playoff game by 45
I feel dirty saying this, but I like Chris Getz a lot and I think he is bringing good process to the Sox. Was he qualified to get the job? Probably not. Will he receive enough ownership support to enact his processes? Probably not. But I think his maneuvering is more effective in a vacuum than a Kenny Williams regime
There is absolutely no way to praise Getz he botched the trade deadline badly and created the worst team in baseball history
The AL West is gonna be extremely meh next year I look forward to playoff games in a minor league stadium
I just don’t like the asking price. Orioles got Burnes last year for two borderline top 100 guys. Marlins want a top 50 guy for a much worse pitcher.
I hate this for the imbalance it will create with the rotation (4 LHP) and because he has injury concerns along with the price tag (Cassie) and this feels like Hoyer reaching to save his job. I hope the return going back is not the names being circulated. Feels like a massive overpay
I agree with basically all of this but most of the rumors today assert Caissie isn’t included. I think triantos is still steep though
I'm guessing that the Yankees are paying most or all of the remaining contract considering the return for the Cubs there
Bellinger is the exact kind of player you salary dump if you can though. If he's not going to play center then he needs to hit like Freddy Freeman to be worth his salary. Sure he will probably hit a bunch of home runs but .195 is always on the table.
