Love it. Lock him in. No new years. His arm is going to explode someday but can’t beat 3/13 for a Cy Young candidate.
Player: A guarantee contract to safeguard v injuries Team: Save money. Avoid negotiating against the player/agent in arb and causing bad blood.
I guess, but he was only getting league minimum this year either way and then he's still getting top end Arb money in the other 2 years. Good for him, he got some guaranteed money in case he blows his arm out tomorrow, just don't see the huge W for the Royals. Its not like he was going to get $25m in year 2 arb. Skubal got $10m this year in year 2 arb after a CY year. Would have been a huge W if they got an extra year or two. Just a weird move where I don't see the upside for the team.
There are dozens of the same risk reward exchanges every year the logic should be obvious for a baseball fan. The team gives him a raise and guaranteed $ for a couple years and limits the extent that they are exposed in arb years if the player blows up.
Blows up to what? Skubal? Skubal made 12.5 in year arb 1 and 2 with a CY in there. They weren't exposed to Ragan makes $30m in those years. They didnt get arb 3. I don't think it's a huge deal either way, just dont see it as a big W. They probably save a couple million while gambling they could lose 10m if he gets hurt and misses a lot of time. Getting guaranteed money while not giving up much is great for him.
I don't know how you could have come up with an extension for Vlad that made sense for both sides at this point. His fWAR numbers the last four years are 6, 3, 1 and 5 and he's about to turn 26. You can't guarantee him $400M+ based on the inconsistency and he's not taking less than that after the Soto/Ohtani deals the last two years. Tigers are kind of in the same place on Skubal going into FA two years from now. He's probably not doing anything less than 10/$350M and there's no point in paying him that right now so you might as well let the next couple years play out and see where his health is.
Right handed first basemen never age well but he plays almost every game and averages a 137 OPS+. Harper was at 139 OPS one year younger (lefty and at a harder position at the time) for 13/$330M. 10/$300M is probably around the sweet spot with salary inflation since 2019.
The market is so weird now that you could talk me into him getting 10/$300M next season or 12/$500M and I don't know which is more likely. I find him very difficult to project with his next deal because of his age, talent, inconsistency, body type and bad defense.
That’s how it feels for most top free agents. I tend to believe if they couldn’t attract any of the top guys they’ve gone after recently then what are the chances they’d really regret having him apart of their team for the next 10-12 years? Some teams are just going to have to over pay
The days of extensions happening because players/agents give discounts in return for long term security with 2-3 years of service time left are basically gone. You either sign them as rookies to weird long term deals with crazy options, sign them to market value deals even with arb years left, or they're going to end up on the market after year 6.
OH It would just be a whole lot easier to compete for the World Series, Attanasio says, if the revenue streams were a bit closer to the big boys. While the Brewers have drawn 2.5 million fans the past two years, ranking 9th in the National League, and drew 3 million fans three times since 2008, their TV revenue is about $35 million. The Dodgers, in comparison, are in the middle of a 25-year, $8.35 billion TV contract, averaging $330 million annually.
is it shitty phone Motorola or Radio God Motorola logo? like I’m very confused by two separate companies using the same name and logo
Maybe they would have more money for NIL if the fans weren't getting rinsed by predatory fees because they were influenced by the Northwestern Mutual patch on their Yelich jerseys
I'm not going to bitch too much about Brewers payroll when they don't seem to be just hoarding cash they make off of national revenue. They have invested a ton in facilities (Phoenix and DR) and staff that seems to be working well for them.
They don't have the cash flow to make splash signings but they are a well run club that usually puts a competitive team on the field. That's really about the best you can hope for with small market teams. I dont understand shitting on them at all.
