These are always awesome. Mizzou puts them out for big moments during football and bball games. Always pretty cool to see. Gives you a real appreciation for production. There's a million things going on
He was a 5 win player his first two seasons but basically league average the last two and trending in a bad direction. Very confusing start to his career. Still at worst the second-best player on that list.
being a productive catcher seems really hard. I always think about the amount of time they spend preparing to catch compared to the amount of time any other player outside of pitcher spends preparing to play their position. not to mention the physical toll it takes.
Oh it's definitely hard, no doubt about that. His 2023 season was really really good. He's just been incredibly average the last 2 seasons.
I mean he's basically turned into the washed up version of Realmuto at age 27. For a guy with his pedigree and start to his career, hard not to quantify the last 1.5 years as "stinky"
Kind of goes both ways in the sense that the difficulty of the position also creates a lower standard for production to become elite at it. He's at least close to an elite player if his hitting is solidly in the "good" category, which is why he was considered the clear 1.1 going into a draft that was thought to be really good at the top.
Will be a shame when they trade him to the NL West in 2030 for 3 prospects outside the top 10 of the team's farm system.

Gavin Williams has no hit the Mets through 8 innings but thrown 111 pitches. Does Vogt let him go back out for the 9th? That's already more than most managers would allow
Jen Pawol will make history this weekend as the first woman to be an umpire in a regular-season MLB game. Pawol will ump three games during this weekend’s Marlins-Braves series in Atlanta, including both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader and the series finale on Sunday, when she will be behind home plate. The doubleheader necessitated adding a fifth umpire to the crew, since each home plate umpire skips the other game they’re not working.
Had to look it up, the DeWayne Wise catch was 16 years ago. I remember listening tot he game on the radio at my desk.
I think two of these were actual strikes. obviously, the swing and misses are still good, but he got some serious help here from the ump.
he looked very good over those 4 innings. getting closer to him pitching long enough to get a W on the books. exciting.
Just saw there was an immaculate inning today. Has there ever been a 3 pitch inning (I assume so) and if so how many?
