Someone check with Dave Berg. Most mid player I can think of. Career .269 hitter with like no power as a utility player yet always did well against Randy Statline against Randy 22 AB .318 BA .773 OPS 3 doubles by far his best against any pitcher. Never made any sense.
Enrique Wilson hit .364/.382/.485 against Pedro over 35 career ABs. He was a career .244/.288/.350 hitter with a career -5.3 bWAR. Most likely just a small sample fluke, but I remember the Yankees always putting him in the lineup vs Pedro because of his career splits against him and it inexplicably usually working out.
Knowing what's coming and still having no shot to hit it has to be demoralizing. Mo was the same way. Man threw one pitch.
Berg was the same way. He’s got more at bats against Randy than anyone else in his career with the most success. Hearing the above story you wonder if guys like that figured out a tell and just kept it to themselves for their entire career because that little edge might be the thing that kept them in the majors.
So he is an idiot, but he also says shit like this on purpose because he thinks people will think he’s a “free thinker” or some shit I don’t think he actually thinks this but it’s really stupid to think comments like that will lead people to think he’s smart or thoughtful
Martinez vs. Rivera (includes postseason): .579 / .652 / .1.053 in 23 plate appearances I'd say that qualifies. Very small sample size but still.
Everything is going to be a pretty small sample size against a closer. From what I see Manny Ramirez has the most plate appearances against him with 53?
I think he believes a lot of this stuff because he thinks analytics have cost him money during his career.
Players will say literally anything to try to get one over on anuhlickticks nerds, I'm sure even he doesn't believe that
Yeah not good. Hoping Sheel wins out or they get sold to an oligarch. Pete's deadbeat bros are just going to reap profit as much as they can.
it’s a lovely city and for true free agents, they can conceptually offer more money. I think everyone’s cash offer to Sasaki is more or less identical.
Why would he say he's doing all this research and then probably sign with the Dodgers when all the research says that's a guaranteed TJ in the next 3 years?
Granted I know nothing about baseball in Japan, but it's kinda surprising to me that the Yankees having had Matsui and Tanaka and still having great relationships with both doesn't even get their foot in the door with the the latest wave of Japanese players.
reporting from last season seemed to suggest he was going to need it anyway, might as well get it over with Going to guess that guys he had played with are a lot more influential than guys he watched on tv, especially Matsui - he was 8 when Matsui left the Yankees
I think the baseball players of Japan and the greater nation as a whole are still mad at Hideki Matsui for buying every available piece of porn in the country for 20 years strong
Maybe I’ll be wrong and the Jays will land Roki, but Toronto constantly finishing in the top 3 for guys they don’t land must drive all their fans absolutely insane. Becoming a meme at this point
