Not really, we’re depleted at CB so we’ve got the numbers to take him too and he’s really fast from what I’ve seen. To Billy's credit - Florida improved a ton throughout the year. Also got a little lucky FSU was so bad. Idk if another 7 or 8 win year will save him But also- huge red flag it took Mertz getting hurt to play Lagway. Maybe he does get fired if Mertz never got injured.
Billy didn’t get fired because his team didn’t quit on him and they actually showed improvement over the course of the season while playing the toughest schedule in the country and having to play a 3rd string QB for the majority of WLOCP and Texas. I feel pretty strongly they beat UGA if Lagway doesn’t get hurt but we’ll obviously never know. Their AD and University is a shit show, but I get why they didn’t light millions of dollars on fire to hire another guy who isn’t a guarantee.
I get not playing Lagway from the start. Same deal you see with Bryce, AR, etc. in the NFL. Don’t want to ruin a kids career before it even gets started due to the OL and other problems around him.
For whatever reason (incompetence?), our coaches have a history of choosing wrong at QB until being forced to play the other guy. Mullen ran Franks into the ground while Trask sat twiddling his thumbs on the bench.
They definitely played better but the AD said they were keeping him when it was a total shit show. I don’t think he makes it past that week in any functional AD
In hindsight, playing against Miami’s three digit ranked defense might’ve been good practice for Lagway
