Not a fan of co-hosting. There is talk of an Argentina-Chile-Uruguay bid for the next SA WC whenever that is. Most likely 2030 to commemorate the 100 years of the first WC in Uruguay.
It's somewhat understandable for countries that don't have that many stadiums (have to play games in places with like 40k capacity) and don't want to waste a ton of $$$$ (like Brazil) but that's obviously not a problem here.
Games would be in Toronto and Vancouver. Can't see them playing WC games in Montreal without a new stadium. Don't mind getting a few host cities with the majority in the USA. Fuck Mexico tho. Shouldn't have to share with them.
Edmonton would get games, Commonwealth does host a good amount of Canada games. The SkyDome is permanently baseball but also BMO Field hosts Argos games during in which the World Cup will be held. Same with Vancouver, Calgary, and Winnipeg.
Shit even better than I thought, I thought Mexico would get a semi and Canada a quarter. Maybe Mexico gets opening match?
which facility does Toronto have that is so much better than Montreal? I agree Toronto will be a host sight...but I could envision MTL being awarded a few games. Its much better suited, more international, to host the world's stage.
I can see a potential new stadium going in somewhere in TO. Pure speculation on my part but if the WC were coming here I could see them somehow tying in a potential NFL team with a new stadium. Argos would play there too maybe? And the Jays need a new stadium soon too. Don't know if you could make a multi multi purpose stadium... BMO isn't WC quality although I haven't been to it since he refurbish/nat grass. Winnipeg ain't getting shit. Calgary a long shot too. Ottawa maybe as the stadium can be stretched to 35,000. Vancouver is a no brainer. Montreal would be but the big O is pure garbage. Saputi worse than BMO. Edmonton has always supported the team but with limited venues up here they may be 3/4 on the list.
Where? Any of the potential stadiums have a roof that can come off. They can grow grass if they had to. Look the bigger problem in Canada isn't infrastructure. It's the fact our national team is fucking terrible. We have no business being around a WC.
They're putting a World Cup in Qatar, not long after giving one to South Africa. I wouldn't worry too much about that.
that's not really fair to South Africa. they had already qualified twice in the previous three on their own merit and almost advanced to the round of 16 the year they hosted.
that's fair, I honestly just didn't recall them ever doing much in any previous WC's so I'd included them.
We aren't going out and buying Brazilian youth squads. Our best youth player Tabla just spurned us for IC. Our next best Davies doesn't have a passport. Our next next best youth Johnny David plays for a local club, not a pro academy, who which is essentially in the 3rd highest league in the province. The development path for our national program and pro clubs is staggeringly abysmal. Talking to a friend that is in Dallas right now for the Dallas cup. He watched the u19 super group game between Man U and Chivas. Chivas won easily. That team could honestly beat our national squad.
I can get down with that. 80 games is a lot. 60 is plenty and should let a lot of deserving cities host games.
Wahl just said only Africa could bid and that would likely be Morocco, seems like a formality at this point.
will be an epic 2026 event, no doubt. North America hosting in gigantic stadiums, literally a gigantic world cup with tons of supporters from every little pocket of the globe. Will probably be some blowouts, so lots of goals. That being said, Euro will remain a much better level of play, especially with the expanded field. Really that part sucks so much and I fucking hate FIFA
How exactly does the Euros letting in more shitty teams make their level of play even better? Expanded world cup will allow in more bad teams for the group stage but it's knockout rounds are still better then anything in the Euros.
Sorry that's what I'm saying. I wrote that poorly. I'm saying Euro will continue to be better, especially because the World Cup is expanding again. I wish Euro hadn't expanded, too. Euro has been a better average level of play for two decades. We'll have to disagree on that point
They both suck, but would rather watch the world cup because, from what I hear, it involves the world
'06 was poor level of play? Many on here were probably too young, but '98 was probably the best. Which was the 1st WC with 32.
Somewhat remember 94. Decently remember 98. Waking up at 4 am to watch the US in 02 is one of my fondest memories.
33 but I vividly remember '90 especially Argentina v Brazil, Cameroon's run, England's semifinal run, Higuita for Colombia and Goycochea going nuts in PKs for Argentina in multiple matches.
I fucking hate beIN and I hate how much they have coverage for. They have Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1 that all overlap so barely show any of them unless it's top clubs. Show more Nice! Plus they have CONCACAF home rights for I think everyone but USA and Mexico, CONMELBOL, Championship, Capital One Cup rights
