Many of their songs are iconic for me and our generation but goddam are they not entertaining live, at all. Still worth it to hear the songs though.
Better may not connote enough meaning for real comparison. The Blue Album presents distinctive sound, structure, and emotion, notable in its genre in a way one doesn't encounter on Definitely Maybe.
I fucking love Weezer, but nothing they did was particularly groundbreaking or interesting. They just write some catchy ass tunes (to me). Was never able to get into Oasis at all.
Sad to hear that, but hopefully it’s different on that day. Given that I’ve never seen them live, and that they’re all back together minus D’Arcy, I was always going to buy a ticket.
I don't even dislike Weezer. They had a couple of songs that were cool but I mean Morning Glory sold 20 million copies
Weezer's blue album has sold 15 million according to wiki. *not really arguing anything for whatever it's worth. Oasis is an undisputably giant band.
Blue album is about as perfect as an album can be. Morning glory is great too, but I’ll take blue album over it.
This is false. Oasis was a much bigger band in terms of album sales but the blue album and Pinkerton are better albums than anything Oasis ever did.
I like Oasis more now than I did at the time. They aren't the only band like that. My tastes ran heavier at the time. Though I did prefer Weezer to Oasis then, but not necessarily now.
I don't feel like Weezer aged particularly well either where it seems like the opposite is true of Oasis
This Oasis/Weezer debate is an interesting one. Both are great, but at their heights Oasis was probably the biggest band in the world. As a kid I loved them both. As an adult I still listen to a ton of Oasis, but rarely Weezer.
This is where I fall as well. I could listen to Oasis rn. Haven't listen to Weezer in maybe 2 decades
I just recently learned that in the late 80's/very early 90's Bill Corgan played guitar in a band with Wayne Wells of Static-X fame
made worse by the fact that I actually liked the first song I knew by them from that Twister soundtrack only to learn that everything else they do is straight cheese cringing just thinking about it
oddly enough it sorta reminds me of The Cure. Not at all the heavy, industrial sound of Static X or whiny post grunge Pumpkins. Wayne was the frontman and the story goes that he & the other members of the band had to repeatedly tell Corgan to stop trying to sing backup or add fills because it sounded fucking terrible. He started what would become SP during this time and ended up leaving because he only had time to focus on one group.
Layne Staley was such a mess at that point. I think the editing helped cover up some of his fuck ups, but still an impressive performance considering the condition he was in.
There is a doc on YouTube that explains how fucked up he was and how much people had to feed him the songs and words. it’s fucking Layne Staley but COME ON
