I liked Bush at the time but not sure I've listen to them in a while. Feel like post grunge bands in general have a ceiling significantly below grunge
for the record I’m going to see Static-X 2.0 again in March. Saw them pre-Covid with Edsel Dope as Xero or whatever the fuck he goes by and was legit shocked at how good they sounded. I don’t know if it was because my expectations were really low going in or what but he did a great job of staying true to Wayne’s sound without it coming across as a cheesy imitation.
Bush put out an album last year. If you liked bush back in the day you’ll prob find something to like
Randomly listening to some Chris Cornell. Never thought about it until now but I find some of his stuff difficult to listen to now. I could get real melancholy if I thought too much about him being gone. Idk anyway RIP Chris
Randomly saw one of their first shows back with the lead singer at a music festival on the beach in Ft Lauderdale (Everclear and 311 played before and after them so it was a strong 90s nostalgia show). I wouldn't have thought to see Live in concert but they absolutely killed it and had a ton of energy start to finish.
First time seeing this thread. I highly recommend The Throwback Podcast. 90s alt rock is their wheelhouse.
I hadn't thought about Weezer in 20+ years. I don't think I thought too much about Weezer in the 90s.
The songs kind of have gimmicky concepts like oh you look like Buddy Holly or this one's about your sweater. Maybe I take myself too seriously but those aren't songs that are going to have a lasting impact on me personally .
People get too hung up on the OP of this thread. I just compared the two because they’re both 10/10 no skip type albums. There is no greater commentary on the seriousness of each bands contribution to music
Curious to hear why you think this (no judgement)? I always associated a certain darkness to Chris Cornell’s music (which I admittedly tend to dislike darker stuff in general). No single song of his was ever at the top of any of my lists, but I also found I generally liked everything he did and similarly didn’t dislike anything of his.
was gonna argue semantics that I didn’t think QOTSA qualified as a 90s band, for multiple reasons, but mainly I’m just happy QOTSA was posted.
Not 90’s but fuck it in on that deep YouTube hole like your uncle at thanksgiving. Josh Homme on a weird custom bass, Grohl on drums and Trent Reznor on keyboards jam
In August 2001 I crashed my car in London, Ontario. I got WASTED with the body shop guy and tow truck driver that night before the like 4:00 am bus back to Toronto to fly to Lincoln. Then a few months later I flew back to pick the car up. 9/11 happened in the meantime. Anyway the tow truck driver picked me up inToronto and gave me a ride to London. He asked if I wanted to smoke a joint and I did. I was 22 and he was probably like 45-50. He said, “Do you want to hear some music? I listen to some weird shit.” I said OK and after he asked if I was sure a couple times he put on his weird cd. It was Core by Stone Temple Pilots, which was not weird at all but the whole exchange was just one more odd detail from my Very Canadian Car Crash. I gave him and the body shop guy each a Huskers shot glass that I brought up and drove my newly repaired Mitsu back to Nebraska.
"I listen to some weird shit" *puts on album that sold 8m copies and is considered one of the best of the genre* Thanks Canada
I'm putting on a CD it's a bit out there. No big deal if you haven't heard it but I listen to a lot of indie stuff not many people know. This song if my favorite. It's called Lithium by this band Nirvana.
gotta be my most listened to song of the past six months. QOTSA with Grohl is probably my favorite rock band of the past 25 years
This is probably a hot take but Oasis never really did anything for me. Although I do like "Don't Look Back in Anger"
While I don't give a shit about most of these bands. Going to be pretty nice to sit by the pool/beach with unlimited drinks starting next Wednesday and just listen to music. Spoiler
I’ve seen almost everyone on this list. Cowboy Mouth, Edwin McCain, Hootie, Gin Blossoms, Everclear, BNL. Need Goo Goo Dolls and Collective Soul to complete my 90s dad energy
I’m not a big Oasis guy but I paid a cover band at a bar in Nashville $20 to play Champagne Supernova one time. No regrets.
I'm not sure if Alice in Chains is forgotten. I think they were the best grunge band but I lean towards the harder stuff anyway
In my mind, bands like Oasis, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and others should have been immediately put into the R&R HoF when they first became eligible and they haven’t even been nominated yet. I’m sure they’ll make it in eventually, but Cornell and Liam/Noel are fucking first ballot hall of fame rock stars.
