The bunker has a 16 page thread about former auburn players getting kicked out of a local church. Didn’t know that board still had enough juice to go 16 pages on a random Tuesday. I did not bother to read it tho
I just stumbled across this. 20 pages but I noticed the Auburn Community Church sent out an email calling them sinners before kicking them out. What are the real details? Religion is awesome.
Auburn Community Church just purchased a large space in Homewood. Fascinating how these new non-denominational churches pop up every ten years or so and purge membership from one another. I would assume a lot of the COTH barners will be joining.
OUR COMMITMENT TO TRUTH AND TRANSPARENCY We speak these truths not to harm but to heal. We believe in the power of truth to set people free and the importance of protecting the flock from confusion and division. Scripture warns us to “watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way” (Romans 16:17), and we cannot allow false narratives about our leadership to damage the work God is doing through Auburn Community Church. We anticipate that our transparency will prompt further attacks against our leadership. We want you to know that such attacks will not deter us from our calling. The current elders of Auburn Community Church are David Fichtner, Miles Fidell, Andy Leisewitz, and Gage Henry, with Keith Johnson Sr. joining upon his ordination on July 20th. We are responsible for shepherding those who choose to participate in the flock of ACC, and we will not abdicate this God-given responsibility. Let us be clear: Rob Pate, Chris Booher, and Will Herring have no governmental authority in the matters of Auburn Community Church. We also want to pastor you well through this difficult time. People opposing us right now are naturally drawn to relational situations like this and will no doubt pour gasoline on them. We are called to be salt and light, not to engage in a war of words. We encourage our body not to indulge in gossip or speculation, but to seek truth through proper channels and to extend grace even in the midst of disagreement. A FINAL WORD TO OUR CHURCH FAMILY We recognize how difficult it may be to hear these details. We want you to know that we have been processing these events for months on end. We can guarantee our leadership team has taken the high road time and time again, has been patient and long-suffering, and only took this step when we believed it was absolutely necessary for the protection and health of our church family. We can also guarantee that our leadership team has never been more united and aligned moving into the future. Scripture consistently encourages believers not to be surprised when trials and tribulation come upon us. As we near the close of our 11th year as a local church in our community, it’s perhaps more surprising that something like this hasn’t happened until now! The enemy would want nothing more than for the saints of Auburn Community Church to shrink back and take their eyes off what God is doing in and through this church. Consider the powerful work of God that surrounds us: the tangible presence of God we experience as we gather corporately and in homes throughout our community; the Word of God being proclaimed faithfully as His people respond in confession, repentance, prayer, and encouragement while the Holy Spirit moves and transforms us into Christlikeness; the victory of Christ over death and sin proclaimed boldly in the testimonies of those who step into the waters of baptism; and our shared commitment to see Christ’s love reach the unreached as we participate in the Great Commission both locally and abroad. All of these works demonstrate God’s kingdom advancing among us, and the enemy would love for us to lose sight of these realities so that the kingdom of God coming here and now might be hindered. But we know that no plan the enemy forms against the people of God can stand. We’ve seen God’s faithfulness to this church for 11 years, and we trust Him to continue protecting and growing His kingdom through our submission to him. This season of difficulty won’t derail what God is doing - it will only refine us and advance God’s kingdom purposes through Auburn Community Church. Jesus wins. We love Rob Pate, Chris Booher, and Will Herring, and we continue to pray for their repentance and restoration. We pray they will receive this loving rebuke as brothers in Christ and choose the path of humility and reconciliation. If they do not, we pray for our body and community, and we pray for them to be brought to repentance for their own sake. We are grateful for your faithfulness, your prayers, and your commitment to this church family. We ask for your continued prayers as we navigate this season with wisdom, grace, and unwavering commitment to the truth of God’s Word and Christ’s bride. As Scripture reminds us, “Let us speak the truth in love, so that we may grow up into him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Ephesians 4:15
Is calling old people in the church elders a new thing? I’m crying at that. It sounds like something from game of thrones. I don’t remember hearing that one before.
It’s the mega church way of saying deacon or vestry. Members of the church who are in leadership of the church like a board of directors.
