I get that. There is also a degree of them playing poor. We aren’t asking for a ransom, it’s a couple million pounds. Hector has been the epitome of what you want from a player, but I'm just over players dictating the one club they’re willing to go. If we can afford to eat an entire salary, we can afford to banish them to the training ground. He's a professional & seriously doubt he'd slide into Ozil / PEA antics
Highly recommend this, SugarShaun shared this with me. Features Hector, he loves it there and they love him. Honestly just think they’re broke as a joke. I know they had a hard time registering players and as of last week they had quite a few who they could not register for one reason or another. No idea how they resolved their issues to be honest. regardless, this is an outstanding watch.
Will do. I actually love Hector & think he's been our best player ambassador in the last several decades... Just frustrated by players continually holding us hostage for one specific destination. Clubs & leagues that are run terribly, shouldn't get discounts to perpetrate past mistakes. If $4M is all they have to spend, they can probably spend it much more efficiently in areas other than an aging, speed reliant RB.
Also, I do tend to agree with you. Part of the process to stop being a shit selling club is to stop the bleeding. If that means he runs around and does fashion shows at Colney all year, that’s okay. I agree with you in that he won’t be a cunt. Then he can decide if he wants to be charitable and take slave wages from Betis or sign one more deal before he hangs them up. It’s one thing to love your family club when you’re on top wages and another thing to eat ramen.
Won’t pretend to understand uk/eu labor laws and/or contract structure but if destitute European leagues mean dead EPL wages I wonder if we’ll start seeing nfl like contracts in the future. Guarantee money, signing bonus, etc
As far as I can tell, all their contracts are guaranteed, seems a lot like baseball. If they were not, we have terminated about 7 contracts in the last year. Only way I see any of the NFL type model employed is if they went with a cap. With their league structure and historical precedent, I think it would take a pretty horrible chain of events for that to even be considered. Or a super league type of deal where teams would agree to match salary levels to %profit earned. That would also require a lot more transparency than we get from anything in Italy and would require a full time staff to ensure Barca are in compliance.
The easiest problem to solve, across Europe, is curbing the fees / ransoms being paid to agents & interested 3rd parties. I can't comprehend why UEFA hasn't cracked down on this problem. Cap Agent fees & eliminate the 3rd party BS. There's no reason why a players father/uncle/mom/barber deserve a cut.
There aren’t even other leagues in the United States that can get away with the NFL’s bullshit on contracts. You’re certainly not going to get an even larger collection of billionaires from across the world to agree to stop using money as a competitive advantage.
The Super League wasn't for competitive advantage, to win more trophies. It was to limit spending & ensure profitability... While it failed to materialize, it's just a matter of time.
Yeah I seriously doubt we’ll see anything resembling NFL like contracts in the EPL due to labor laws and the fact players do have other league options but aren’t those nfl contracts structured to enable more spending for competitive advantage? You’re not penalized for an Ozil deal, you just cut him and only owe the guaranteed piece. Either way, just wondering what the response to lack of buyers on unwanted players will be. Just more buyouts, more dead weight carried, or something else
No one is really penalized. You just don’t name them to the roster or register them. You’re always free to buy or freeze people out. But to answer your question, my guess for a shorter term fix would be more matches. More revenue. Not saying I agree with it, just my guess.
I don’t know where you get the idea was that it would limit spending. It was to maximize revenue by creating a more marketable television product, the receipts of which wouldn’t have to be shared with less marketable non brand names and would be guaranteed for its members regardless of performance. But these squads would all still compete domestically and the idea that they would unilaterally disarm and risk embarrassment in all competitions because of the Super League is far-fetched. Even Kroenke appears dedicated to spending for competitive reasons, the idea that some sheikh or oligarch who owns a team for non-financial reasons would just decide that they don’t need to keep pace with each other is unrealistic.
I’ve only seen highlights but have a good feeling about Marquinhos, seems to have a similar mentality to Martinelli
There were spending caps, tied to League revenue, as part of the Super League. The players got a set percentage. It was set up to protect the billionaire owners’ investment, & ensure profitability.
He’s merely protecting his investment. If we slide further down the table, he risks not being invited to the party the next time the SL comes around. That’s the only reason for his investment.
Well he didn’t spend when TV money was out of control as well as commercial money and we were left behind. There’s not gonna be a super league any time soon I think he’s finally accepted that he doesn’t need to pinch pennies
Not sure why anyone would even want other leagues to move to nfl like contracts. That shit is trash and unfair to players
They addressed their lack of spending/investment awhile back. Stating something to the effect of, "We didn't have complete ownership & control prior..." Which makes sense, in that any personal investment, increasing the value of the club, prior to buying out Usmanov, would have been counter productive in that it would have increased the share price. I'm not saying they don't want to win trophies, as we should win more as a result of their spending... But, they only care so far as their asset is protected & the club retains/regains our previous status. I don't think the Super League as proposed will happen, but the football is broken across Europe & systematic change needs to happen. KSE will continue to invest enough to ensure we remain in the top-tier of whatever comes of the current mess.
fabs just had a nice ball over the top for esr to setup a big chance also, he’s playing rw and esr is at the 10
I’m really sick of losing every league game to Pool and City, getting results or a result vs them is 1 thing I’d really like to see this year The New Year’s Day game was still fixed
Ramsdale sure gave up some awful goals to Jota last year Laca looks absolutely checked out this whole episode
I haven’t had a chance but I hear the NLD is all of three minutes and they focus more on the Everton match and it’s a happy ending because progress.
I wasnt mad last season. i think the progress was great and 5th looking back on the season was a good result. but i dont want to rewatch the last games. i will, just not today.
