I'm just looking forward to Joan Garcia joining a long list of "almost transferred to Arsenal" along with CR7, Kante, Mbappe, and many others.
It actually is kinda shitty - He's very likely better than Raya. Supposedly, we had deal agreed last summer, but Edu killed it, as the £££ would have prevented us going for an attacker (that never materialized). We were then forced to pivot to Neto, which would have been disastrous had Raya ever picked up a long term injury
I'm team Sesko, but the deeper I dive, the more risky he seems (just a big gamble on potential, at prices quoted)
yeah, i think kai continues to start up top most of the games when healthy unless the new 9 just goes scorched earth in their early opportunities i’m not expecting the new 9 to come in and get 20+ goals in the league. would expect around half that assuming kai’s healthy and playing well imo (def wouldn’t mind being wrong about the new 9 scoring 20+, though)
Not sure if he was just checked out and mentally had already taken the Forest gig, but Edu was diabolical last summer. Fumbling what turned out to be the hottest goalkeeper prospect in the world and panic loaning a cup-tied keeper instead. No forward, so panic loan washed Sterling. 50m for a chronically injured LB. The middest of midfielders (thank god in hindsight). What a disastrous window.
To be fair, all of us would have lost our shit, if we’d spent €20-25M on another “backup” keeper - but in hindsight, with our inability to get anyone in to help our attack, it would have been incredibly forward thinking… he likely would have been our Keeper for the next 6-8 years.
needed more wengerball (or 23/24 season artetaball) goals imo still, there was some nice ones in there. i’d probably go with ricky’s banger or ethan’s against city as my goal of the season choices honorable mention to saliba’s goal off his rear against fulham
Are we really upset that we have Raya as goalie going forward, maybe Garcia is better but Raya is terrific Also wouldn’t call Merino mid and Ricky was worth a gamble walrus’ verdict on last summer’s window seemed a bit harsh though not adding a capable attacker was a killer
We would have never stopped blaming the backup keeper as the reason for not signing a forward. I don’t think you can buy a backup keeper to develop them (not at £30m up front). Just don’t see how you could ever give them enough minutes
Definitely not upset about having Raya - could make an argument for him as player of the season & our season would have been a disaster if he was injured for any length of time.
We did add what we thought was a capable attacker as well. Hindsight’s 20/20. Some people just like to be miserable.
people thought Raheem Sterling was a capable attacker? I like Calafiori, hopefully he can get healthy and prove the doubters wrong. I don't think Merino is anything special as a midfielder. his work at striker this year saved the season from complete disaster, but not sure how much that will be his role moving forward. Sterling and Neto were plan Z, we fucked up signings, and they performed to that level.
Sure Not one of us spoke up about it being a poor at the time - It appeared to be a shrewd loan, with minimal risk... his ability just happened to fall off a cliff
it was literally last minute and everyone knew we just needed a body and he cost next to nothing. expectations were extremely low and he still failed to meet them.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that it was a great window. Just wasn’t a complete train wreck that some want it to be.
We're playing the long game with sterling Means something that he picked hale end for his son over city / chelsea / pool
can’t wait to watch thiago sterling and enzo cazorla lead us to back to back trebles in 2040. i see the vision
Seems Sociedad merely want the transfer to happen after July 1st, for accounting reasons... they should use a portion of the transfer fee to poach someone from Chelsea's accounting department
