you can’t just say “they’d break the law” when a club suspended an arrested player who hadn’t been charged in literally the only example you have cited they could have, they didn’t, you’re fine with it
In a world where laws didn't exist, Arsenal could have done what a few of you hoped for... but then Partey couldn't be accused in that same world. Quite the conundrum
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/34...a-football-club-do-when-a-player-is-arrested/ Years of contract law and FA rules, huh?
I read the article. Did you? The entirety of the article is describing the choices that Arsenal had. It’s absolute gibberish to say they had no choice but to do nothing. No one is saying that Arsenal was required to suspend him. No one even says they should have immediately terminated his contract. But “do nothing” is absolutely not the only option they had - as proven by other clubs which did suspend under the same legal circumstances.
There is no mention of any action being taken by clubs prior to charges filed (which was today for Partey), apart from Greenwood... which we've already covered, being due to the Audio & Video proof being leaked (the article does not specify the leak).
I’m not trying to be judge/arbitrator/whatever but move the fuck on This is a very cordial thread 99% of the time
I'm down - Teams in Spain next week & Asian Tour starts 2 weeks from tomorrow - 1st match on the 23rd
They see him as an 8/10… it could also be conversations as insurance, if Ethan doesn’t sign & we’re forced to sell.
could see that, but hopefully it’s just because they see ethan as the øde backup. maybe ethan extends and gets sent out on loan as well? in theory, we have saka, nelli, ethan, leo (?) and jesus that can play rw, though if we have the budget to bring in madueke along with a cf, rodrygo, and maybe eze, then i’d feel better about the madueke links (even if we do pay a premium which would be annoying, but hey, at least we brought in our main targets in this scenario), but they do have me a bit nervous that either someone unexpected is potentially out the door or we’re near panic signing territory after not getting a main target (rodrygo, etc)
Pretty sad state of things when wasting likely £50m on more Chelsea trash isn’t even the thing I’m most upset with the club for. Lol Jesus Christ
I just wonder if Ethan will not find time because of his size… I’ve mentioned this before but I think it’s pretty clear that given a tall guy and a short guy with similar skills… they want the tall dude
Hmmm, ultimately whomever we sign in attack at any spot, I’ve no clue how they’ll be. Just score/create goals, don’t care how
I think you nailed it. The club ultimately wants him, but I think there are limits to him physically - I think he presents as a player that could be good to really good in the Premier league, not great because of this. Talented & capable when on the pitch… he broke down last season & I never really feel he was overused. Not necessarily someone I’d pay over the odds on, with so much more development needed.
He was literally a child last season. Most 17 yr olds aren't ready to play 2-3k minutes in the Premier League. He needs to get stronger and develop his body, as he will naturally do as he gets older. Ideally he re-signs and gets a good loan somewhere where he can get the minutes he needs. But he's the current cover for Odegaard, and I think if you bring in someone like Eze, Ethan (rightfully) is probably wondering how he fits in the short term at Arsenal.
would agree 100% with Ethan's people that Madueke + Eze doesn't really make sense for his future (especially since he hasn't been played or shown the physicality needed for the 9, which is reportedly where Arteta has hinted his future may be)
Madueke’s a very talented player, if not a bit of a dickhead. It’s the price tag and continued assembly line of Chelsea rejects that bothers me. And if he’s our big winger outlay, I’m sorry that just isn’t good enough.
Think I agree with the point made that buying from Chelsea probably becomes more common as they continue their asinine recruiting strategy trick is obviously not over paying
Scott’s all in I see that this is an unpopular position but after spending a bit more time thinking about it I can't help but think the general consensus is wrong. There is just a lot of bad vibes from the CHELSEA part of this because he stacks up well to players that fans would be thrilled to be linked with.— Scott Willis (@scott.cannonstats.com) 2025-07-05T18:23:45.708Z
approaching the madueke potential transfer with the mindset this is to bring him in addition to our main targets (rodrygo, eze, etc) if that’s the case, somebody’s def getting sold, though, imo leo - love you, but think it’s time nelli - rather not, but would fetch the highest fee. he may not be happy playing second fiddle to someone he’s competing against for a spot in a wc year as well imo jesus - not sure there’s a market coming off injury, though ethan - fanbase might riot
Don’t think this is the case or being reported but if Ethan were to be a starting 11 or leaving (or whatever the I’m not signing thing is) then cash out.
I've read that that he doesn't want to go on loan & wants playing time assurances... They might be reasonable, but if not and/or he doesn't sign, cash in 100%
I think a sale would probably be regretted, but we only get so many shots with this core and I’d much prefer they go for it than hold off on improving a club to satisfy an 18 year old
Where's everyone at with the striker? I think I've decided I just want us to stop fucking about, grab Watkins, and spend across the attack. Watkins isn't sexy, but will bang
Im much less concerned about who’s in the middle if that guy is in between Rodrygo and Saka. Still have reservations about Gyokeres at any fathomable price.
I didn’t sleep much and on 1 this weekend but starting to wonder if they’re trying to get creative with the position like PSG did with Dembele. Going after Eze and Madueke doesn’t make a ton of sense. Or we’re just throwing a bunch of shit at the wall waiting for something to stick.
Seems like it started trending that direction about a week ago. he seems like he has a chip on his shoulder, and I like it
Pretty much this Looks like Gyokeres is the striker pick then. I have some doubts, that transition from Portugal to England isn't always easy, but he's got plenty of experience, and will undoubtedly score goals. He gave Saliba and Gabriel a test when we played Sporting too. Just glad we've made a decision.— arseblog (@arseblog.com) 2025-07-06T11:49:39.308Z
