I started it tonight on Apple TV and realized it wasn’t beer I needed but it was weed (possibly mushrooms) and decided to hold off
I’ve tried to get into Shakespeare shit but the dialogue just always ends up hurting my big, dumb head. I’ve heard this is p good tho
Really enjoyed Macbeth last night. Awesome sets. As always, Denzel is the fucking man. Kinda cool thinking how my infant daughter will watch this in lit class one day like we did with the '79 version with Judi Dench and Ian McKellen.
Watched Hereditary last night for the first time. I’m a gigantic wuss and don’t really care for horror movies, but this one kept popping up as recommended. I really liked the slow burn/build of the first half. The second half was confusing to me so I read a Vulture article where Aster explained a lot. Knowing those details, a second watch would be interesting, but, again, I’m a wuss and don’t want to be scared again. Gonna try to watch Midsommar this week.
Liked Macbeth a lot. Don't think I've ever watched a movie version before, just read it. Much easier to understand when actually seen it acted out (and with subtitles). Some of the lines really pop more with the benefit of great acting.
I also saw this symbol on the top of my wife’s lotion this morning. I had to cross reference it to make sure she wasn’t in the paimon cult.
I’m an hour and a half into Midsommar. It’s been fantastic so far. Freaking out on mushrooms halfway around the world actually made me sweat. I’m hopeful the second half isn’t too scary (and is just creepy) because, again, I’m a wuss. Ari Aster is probably a really weird dude.
While super weird, I thought the second half was clunky and predictable. I’m not a deep movie guy so I’m probably missing some kind of allegory, meaning, etc. I was expecting more/better. Hereditary’s ending warranted the buildup, but Midsommar’s second half just seemed pedestrian.
Most of those who saw it at Sundance said it was their favorite film and will be one of the best for the year
It’s just a break up movie. That’s all. But it’s creepy and weird and beautiful and creative, and that makes it awesome.
I'm sad to admit that I fell asleep watching First Cow on a plane. Maybe not the right setting/ambiance. But the first A24 film I can remember that I didn't love.
I’m so excited for this movie. Alex Ross Perry was on The Big Picture a few weeks ago and went out of his way to mention how good it is.
Saw X yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I think I expected it to be a little better though based off the preview and the reviews. Definitely liked Midsommar and Hereditary more. Spoiler The plot was basically a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie with better acting/dialogue and some good humor thrown in. Just swap out Leatherface for a horny old lady. *The sexscene with the old people would have been funnier if they were fucking doggystyle .
Just saw Green Knight. Another shining example of why I don't understand why people use Rotten Tomatoes. 89% sounds really good until you realize it just means 89% of people just thought it was better than bad. IMDB gave it a 6.6 meaning barely worth watching, and I'd cosign that.
i thought it was so good. highly recommend it to anyone. well shot, good pacing, good tension and horror. doesn’t take itself totally serious at times, which is fun. ready for the prequel Spoiler there are so many layers to the pearl/maxine dynamic that i need to watch it again. clearly themes around the acceptance of growing old and fading beauty, sexuality and the desire to please your partner however you can, bisexual identity, and the dangers of sexual puritanism
Just saw Everything Everywhere All at Once with my friend who worked on it. The film was batshit insane and I loved every second of it and was cool to see my friend's name in the credits
Saw the trailer when I saw X last weekend. I really want to see this but I don’t want to drive up to LA. Hope it gets more theaters next weekend.
Finally a decent horror movie where I really felt I got my money's worth. Sexy girls, nasty gore and some cheap laughs - can't wait for the prequel.
It has a pretty limited release right now I think in two weeks it expands to a decent amount of theaters
Saw the trailer when I saw X this morning and it was mighty interesting - look forward to seeing it in a few weeks.
I didn’t see any talk about Under the Silver Lake in here. I know it’s not new but I finally watched it last night. I thought it was good but I think I need to watch it again to be sure.
Saw this yesterday. Enjoyed it a lot but set your expectations going in. It's more of low key Marvel/Blockbuster type action and humor than your typical A24 weirdness. After watching I looked it up and sure enough the Russos were producers. It's very a entertaining and good movie that I think will get hugely popular as word of mouth grows but part of me feels like that script treated in a more traditional A24 way had potential to be one of the best movies I've ever seen.
