This feels misleading, or incomplete information. Does the footage show Smollett walking down the street and not getting attacked, or is there no footage of him at all at that time? He knows right when and where he was attacked, right? There is either footage of that location, or the surrounding areas, at that time, or there isn't.
I thought it was sketchy that he could have been targeted through the mail and then be attacked in Chicago by the same people until I thought a little longer and realized that most celebrities plaster their locations all over social media. Probably would have been pretty easy to find him. Even if it’s unrelated, it wasn’t too long ago that “proud boys” were running around NYC looking for fights and trying to cause race wars. I’d wager he’s more well-known to far right/racist groups than the general public too.

Strange, as they said it's an area that's dense with CCTV cameras. I don't think the prospect of him being attacked like this is unreasonable to consider happening. It certainly wouldn't be the first time. I also don't think it's beyond anyone fabricating this kind of thing. Also wouldn't be a first. Him leaving the noose around his neck until the cops got there is a bit strange, no? Maybe he couldn't get it off and didn't want to cut it, to preserve evidence??

Now the Chicago Tribune is reporting Smollett and his manager are refusing to turn over their phone records.
That is interesting Smollett said he was on the phone with his manager during the attack, but both of them have refused to turn over their phone records, according to Guglielmi. “Both the victim and his manager have made statements to detectives that they were on the phone with each other," he said in an email. "We were not able to independently verify that because they did not turn over cell phone records to police when asked. "That being said, we have no reason to doubt the statements given, and the reason that detectives requested cell phone records is because the manager and the victim have a financial relationship with each other," he added. "Because of that, independent verification was needed for the investigation."

This. If it can aid police in finding the possible suspects, I see no reason they should hold out on giving the police their phone to check the phone records. Unless they are both lying...
I think you could make a reasonable argument that you wouldn't want the police having your phone records. Drugs, hos, various private and extralegal dealings and whatnot. I think a black man could also make a strong case that he doesn't trust Chicago cops. It will seem suspicious, of course, but that would be my argument.
I could see that. What kind of info could they gather from those phone records? how deep would the police need to dig to see at (whatever) 11:45 a call was placed to a Bill Thompson, who is, I dunno, somehow a known drug dealer, or male prostitute or something? And neither of them are willing to turn the records over, so they both have some sort of incriminating evidence that their phone records would tip the cops off to? Could the police get a court order to attain the phone records??
Im very much team that Racists do terrible shit all the time and most of the stories are legit. The facts in this case just seem really really fishy and are getting even fishier with the not telling the cops about the MAGA thing and not turning over his phone records.
