Mehta is bitter that he lost his source within the organization which was Maccagnan. He also looks like an idiot guaranteeing that Maccagnan wasn't getting fired when Tony Pauline first reported it.

Its quite easy to make fun of the Jets and I am usually right there doing it myself but firing Maccagnan was a great move. If this team hires Joe Douglas its even better. Yeah Gase sucks but he is a genius compared to Maccagnan.

He could be bitter and I have not read the story, but he’s not wrong.

There is no downside whatsoever to firing Maccagnan. It should have been done after the season but better late than never.

I'm not saying Gase is worse than Maccagnan, but I can tell you for certain that not a single Dolphins fan was sad to see Gase gone. So good luck with him running the whole show I guess

I’m not against firing Maccagnan, I’m just saying he’s right about the Jets being a laughing stock. And firing Maccagnan to give Gase full control, when he failed miserably with the Dolphins, is comical to put it mildly.

Yeah, but the problem is they're still stuck with Gase. I honestly thought Bowles could have been a very good coach if he had a good (even competent) GM helping him build the team. Instead he had MacCagnan, whose good draft picks in his five years running the draft could be counted on one hand (and most of those were just taking the best player available in the top six). But Johnson refused to believe that Maccagnan was the problem, until the new guy said so. Oh yeah, and both Bowles and Maccagnan's firings came a little over a year after Johnson gave them both extensions.

Now they'll have Gase paired with whoever is complacent enough to go along with whatever personnel decisions he wants to make, and have to deal with the toxic coaching staff issues with Williams, his son, Gase and Vitt.

    Good luck.

Everyone's acting like Gase will be the permanent GM going forward. He's not Tuna.

The team will hire a new GM soon.

They should have fired Maccagnan before the draft but the Jets never do those sorts of things*.

    *logical things

Owner said yesterday both gase and the GM will report directly to the owner so gase wont be reporting to the GM.

This is the same role he had in Miami and got rid of every player he felt didn’t buy into his coaching and replaced them with “his guys”

And still managed to lose a locker room full of “his guys”

Well I guess I'm just going to have to trust the Jets owner to keep the ship sailing smoothly.

Wolf and Casserly were hired as consultants that led to the hiring of Maccagnan. At this point I just hope they hire Joe Douglas and he and Gase can sink or swim together.

Bowles was never going to be a good coach. Maccagnan was worse but Bowles was pretty incompetent as well.

I don't think it's that big a deal that McCagnan stuck around for the draft. They didn't have a ton of picks and the Q Wiilams pick was an obvious one.

Joe Douglas is not going to be a puppet. He isn't leaving a good situation in Philly to be an errand boy for Gase. If Douglas turns down the job then its a different story.

Have you people forgotten that Maccagnan was the guy that picked Christian Hackenberg in the second round. That decision alone disqualifies him from ever again working in an NFL front office.

    You seem to be confused

Nobody is saying getting rid of Maccagnan was a bad move

Everybody but you is saying getting rid of him, giving gase more power, making him report directly to the owner now bypassing the new GM who he will handpick...is hilariously bad given how that worked out for gase in Miami

Gase gets two years and its not like there were any good hires this past offseason unless you are a big fan of Arians who would never have taken the Jets job. Bottom line is if the Jets hire Douglas which I won't believe until it actually happens the team will have upgraded at the GM position big time.

I fully expect 6 or less wins the next two seasons and another hilarious coaching search but Gase was no worse a choice than most of the other coaching changes this offseason. The biggest takeaway from all of this is that Christopher Johnson is even more incompetent than his brother.

One other thing regarding the Jets front office structure; the GM and coach both directly report to the owner. This is not a new way of doing business for this team.

Yes getting rid of your HC will be easy in 2 years

However you are skipping the part about how you will be left with a roster he created and gase’s roster management skills are hilariously bad

So while gase himself can be fired and gone you’ll be stuck with a gase roster for the foreseeable future

Need an example? Look at the 2019 Miami dolphins roster

To be fair the HC reporting to the owner is not new for the Jets, they’ve had that reporting structure in place with Bowles and Maccagnan.

    :awshucks:

Like I said if Douglas gets the GM job I don't believe he is taking the job to be a puppet since he is very well thought of and can get other jobs in the future. If he turns the Jets down things will continue to get worse. Being a Jets fan means never expecting anything good to happen but for now I will enjoy not having Maccagnan around.

I wouldn’t hate giving Peyton a day over personnel, is be shocked if he took it without having full autonomy over decisions though.
