Both cards are stacked tonight. Should be a fun night of wrestling. Sure as shit can't say that about Mondays anymore.
If you are AEW what do you do if Mox cannot go? this is a debate in the wrestling group chat I’m in. I think you have to strip Mox and make cage wrestle a big name for the belt like Omega or hangman to justify him with the strap, you could easily do a battle royal or something to open night 2 to put them in place imo. What would you all do if you had to book it?
there aren’t any faces near the top of their rankings. Give him the belt and let him do an open challenge. Let him destroy luchasaurus or jungle boy. Someone like that he can do open challenges every week until finally Mox answers
I don’t overthink it, I just push that match back to August. You can build a special episode around the match.
Have taz come out each week and talk shit about how Mox is scared not quarantined. Let cage come out and just smash people for fun. Basically do Brocks gimmick for a month (and just a month)
Reading some of those comments and not trying to rip on AEW, but this exchange made me laugh. One person responded "NXT needed to use main roster talent to get ahead in ratings". Someone responded "well maybe AEW should use their main roster then". Still amazes me SD get basically 3x the ratings both these programs get and Raw is still well over doubling them. Makes it hard to argue with WWE on what they do, despite most of us liking the AEW/NXT style more.
Counter point: put NXT on Monday night and Raw on Wednesday night. Dont change anything but the timeslots. NXT would get about 2mm and Raw about 800k. Monday night on USA is engrained.
I agree. No matter how good of a product anyone can put out, no one is going to compete with wwe. Aew is closest they've had since wcw and they can't even consistently beat their developmental 3rd brand.
Yeah and what's weird is, based on the way AEW's ratings have looked from the beginning, I think if they were to run on Monday night, opposite Raw, they would pull in...800k viewers just like now. They have their own fanbase and there's very little carryover. In other words active WWE fans arent really watching AEW in large numbers That tells me there are a lot of lapsed fans out there that dont even know AEW exists or simply arent interested enough to check it out.
Pretty much. It also doesn’t help AEW that the main people you see during promos are all ex WWE guys, like Jericho, Cody, Moxley and Hardy. I think they use those guys correctly, but unless it’s a name no one has seen in forever (Punk) or a huge current name that jumps over (Reigns), there isn’t an existing person to move the needle. That’s why I really want to see them put the title on Page in the next year and see what he can do as the guy.
I dont think comparing the Wednesday shows to the Monday and Friday shows is appropriate. They aren’t the same type of show because the target audience isn’t the same. Main roster WWE is targeted to a younger mainstream demo. The Wednesday shows are targeted to the us in this thread demo. That’s why for the most part we feel the main roster shows can be good but are generally watered down and why we all think Wednesdays are the shit now. That’s how the shows are presenting themselves to us. So saying you could move either to a Monday or Friday time slot and they would get the same type of numbers is true because it’s not really the same audience tuning in for both shows
She was never getting over on the main roster. She seem's like a talent better suited for NXT where its about the in ring action.
You aren't getting either currently... It's some hybrid and as I said most viewers checked out because it wasn't what they wanted. The hype train for America's version of NJPW on a large scale. What prime NXT was but in 10k seat arena's vs a sound stage. Maybe they become 95/97 WCW in time... I think the goal isn't to be prime WCW but NJPW. I think that's the market. I think that market can grow. Trying to do what WWE is but better won't work unless you can develop a mega star like Hogan, Flair, Rock, Stone Cold, Cena. I don't see anyone on the AEW roster that looks to be in that mold
I dont think AEW really knew what they wanted to do. They advertised it was going to be more sports based and wins and losses would matter and all that jazz. They have not done that at all. It looks like they are settling into a WCW style which is not bad. But I think they are going to stay in the ratings range they are now. But like I said earlier, no one is going to compete with wwe. As long as they make shows their fans like and aren't losing money doing it, then its a success
It’s a shame because it felt like AEW really found its footing right when covid hit. I wonder what ratings would look like if AEW ran unopposed it ran against RAW on Mondays
I think aew is a niche company. Their ratings i don't think will ever be much higher than they are now. But if they make content that their target audience likes, really thats all that matters.
I wish AEW had a better women’s division. I love Shida and Brit Baker is a Star but they don’t care at all about that division. Wish they could get Shayna and Bianca that would change everything.
penelop Ford is pretty good and statlander was doing well until the injury. They differently need 3 or 4 more good women’s wrestlers
