They need Tessa. Would completely change the division and they could launch a 4 Horseman with Cody, Tessa, and FTR.
I like Statlander if they get rid of the alien gimmick. Ford is getting better each week. Hope they start caring and give the girls a chance just like NXT. Give the women’s division 3 singles matches a show would be great. I have only seen single matches with Their Champion. Is Riho coming back I like her. More Japanese wrestlers the better.
I may be wrong, but I thought I heard her issue was more she wanted to return to Japan than it was wanting out of WWE.
A WWE developmental guy spoiled the main event of next weeks title v title match. Im sure Vince will take this well. Spoiler: If anyone wants to be spoiled
On main event. They felt that her character would work well with ongoing feud between the Street Profits and Viking Raiders.
My bad, thought you were talking about thats why Logan hasn't been on TV. Reading comprehension issue on my part
The best looking main roster title now. Possibly even the whole company. Although I do love the North American title.
How are people not liking what AEW is doing? It's the first time in years, maybe decades, that I stop everything I'm doing, put the phone down, and watch from beginning to end. Of course there will be growing pains, they have to develop characters from the ground up. That's why the women's division is struggling. Riho was a failed experiment as the main face, but so was Britt Baker. And now she might be the best character in wrestling. She's an incredible promo and has found her stride. Just a snap shot of where the main event scene will be in the next 6-12 months: Page, Omega (I think we're heading for the breakup sooner rather than later), Jericho, Mox, Cage, MJF, Pac, etc. The TNT title picture with Cody reminds me so much of when Flair would face random guys like Scott Steiner and Bobby Eaton. The tag title scene is the best in wrestling and that's not debatable. They've had some misses, sure, I don't think Brodie Lee is the right fit for the Dark Order. But they do so many things right like pairing Cage with Taz, bringing in fantastic managers like Arn, Tully, and Jake. If you grew up watching wrestling in the early 90s AEW has really helped you find what you've missed in wrestling since the Monday Night Wars.
But, it doesn't have the "best thing going in the wrestling business" which is.....checks notes...Otis, apparently.
I personally don't have anything against AEW. It just didn't grab me and I think it may be fatigue in wrestling in general as I haven't really watched much of anything lately. I am going to preface this post with I don't have a problem with AEW, I liked it better than RAW and SD and I think I liked NXT more, but that may just be down to I knew and liked their roster better. But I think reasons that AEW didn't fully click with me include the lack of rules and making you suspend disbelief too much. Not to go all Cornette (or V1) in here, but it annoyed me that every tag match just completely disregarded any inclination that there were rules in the matches. And the constant high spots can be fun, but if no one sells them and you move on to the next one, at some point it gets too much for me. Another issue you hit on was the womens division, it was awful. I also wasn't a fan of a lot of the WWE guys they brought in and tried making big deals out of. I don't know, I am not really a Moxley guy. But again, I haven't watched in a while and it sounds like from your posts and others I have seen it has been getting better, I just haven't really watched any wrestling recently. If I do decide to try and get back into wrestling, it would be AEW and NXT. Again, I am not trying to shit on AEW. Maybe I should have just been more patient as they got through their growing pains and should start watching again now.
I think I am going to watch both shows tonight. Since I already saw the spoilered winner of the NXT main event, I will probably check out AEW live. Match card looks pretty solid
Good on him for facing this head on, and shame on that chick for trying to lump him in the sexual abuse scandals.
This is where filming multiple nights is a negative IMO. They looked like it was their second match of the night (as it was)
That Canadian Destroyer off the top rope onto a group on the floor was most most amazing thing I've ever seen.
Kind of feel bad for Orange Cassidy. He/his gimmick may not have long term lasting power and without the crowds he's being robbed of what's likely a short window to be the biggest thing going.
He's been doing this gimmick for YEARS. It's really just a variation of Gorgeous George's gimmick from the 40s, with laziness replacing pomposity.
Cassidy probably never is going to be a top guy with this gimmick but theres no reason he can't still be a big attraction and have a job for a long time. He puts on fantastic matches.
He'll be around and popular for a long time but this was likely his brief window to get a main event run and it's been kind of lost due to the pandemic. He's the biggest ratings draw on AEW right now, imagine how much more it would be if there was a crowd hyping it up even more. Crowd favorites like that need to go over in front of a crowd. Full arena and he goes over Jericho in a match like last night and the crowd would be lit. Maybe they can keep stretching it out but I can't imagine for the months it will take before arenas are packed again. That leads to a kind of unmentioned problem with having the empty arena shows. There's very little organic getting over at the moment, no crowd feedback on terrible gimmicks either. Cassidy and Otis were over before COVID but any new push and they are just assuming it's working. For example, everything Cody is doing at the moment is awful but he just keeps going full stream ahead, needs a live crowd to check his ego.
He just main evented a 2 week special event. Going against Jericho is his main event run. I agree crowds love him, but Jericho has 1 loss in AEW I believe and that was a world title match to the second biggest star in the company. Cassidy isn't going to go over guys like Jericho and Mox, its just not happening. He has secondary champion ceiling written all over him at this point. If the crowds come back and he goes over say, MJF, to win the TNT title the crowds will still be going wild. He's 5-7 in AEW, thats not the guy you have beat Jericho.
Orange Cassidy proved his gimmick works even in the main-event. He's not going to get a six month title reign, but as a special attraction/occasional main-eventer, he's made. He will def get a world title run (short but memorable) one day.
This is exactly what I was saying in the initial post. This run is probably the peak he will hit in his career. I feel bad for him because it's coming without the massive crowd pops it should have and may never reach as high as it could have because of that.
