I don’t doubt that they would get a new deal, but the question is whether it would be as good a deal as they have now.
I don't think there are any many networks looking for wrestling shows as you think. That would be a huge bummer, just as it seems they are gaining momentum again. Wonder if they'd look at doing something with Netflix or hulu
TNT is in a huge amount of homes for a cable network. Unless it’s espn or fox (which it won’t be) it will be a downgrade
Problem with ESPN is they would never get a consistent time slot. Would be moved around based on games they televised or would end up on an app a lot of people don't have or use.
Nothing says anti-corporate, anarchist wrestling stable like pre-announcing their debut and already knowing their name
https://ihsturgis.com/pages/fozzy So Fozzy is performing in Sturgis tomorrow. Sturgis is expecting 250k bikers, and masks aren’t encouraged. As good as he is, it’s getting harder and harder to overlook a lot of the dumb things Jericho does outside the ring.
Jericho’s 2020 has been pretty impressive - had a podcast calling Covid a hoax - Taped a podcast with Don Jr - Was all about all lives matter during the initial BLM protests - Plays Sturgis days before a live show with a match that has been built for weeks
It’s weird but yet again the live AEW show just feels off. The matches have been fine, but they should be better. It’s like everyone is just a split second off on everything they are doing. I have no doubts that the taped show next week will be great, but this is full on trend now that they are not doing their best work move.
think the thing I dislike the most about modern belts is how oversized branding has become the most prominent feature instead of the intricate etch designs, NXT UK excluded of course them shits gorgeous
AEW had really high highs and really low lows last night. MJF, as usual, incredible. The tag team segment was incredible. The new 4 Horsemen will be great, just missing a main eventer (Shawn Spears ain't it). I think Page is the right guy there. The lows: the women's division is still awful, time to sign some names. And that Orange Cassidy/Jericho match was really sloppy. Jericho should've audibled out of that finish, that left a really bad taste to end the show.
I really do like Orange Cassidy, but the more long matches he has, the less appeal he has to me. He’s very good in small doses. I just think he’s overexposed at this point. The lack of crowd clearly hurts him, but I don’t thing he’s strong enough of a worker for AEW to be in a top spot.
Oh and Jericho needs to only wrestle on large events and they should just be brawls. He just cannot go in normal match anymore.
He could if he'd drop fifty pounds. He's just gotten complacent. I don't think it's a coincidence that he was still looking fit and spry in his last run with WWE, while being treated as a glorified upper midcarder, but as soon as he gets to AEW, where he's treated like the legend he is, he slows down, fattens up, and mostly takes it easy. He had something to prove in WWE that he doesn't have in AEW, especially now that his title run is over.
Jericho was old and out of shape in WWE and now he’s older and in worse shape in AEW. Age doesn’t reverse nor does his love for drinking.
yeah when I think back to his last WWE run I still see fat and out of shape Jericho, just slightly less so and with a cleaner haircut
He turns 50 in a few months. I'd wonder what he was on if he wasn't slowing down and looking a little out of shape by this point. He was never a body guy or someone who seemed to take training very seriously.
Jericho’s issue is he thinks he is capable of more than his body can handle. He still tells a good story, but he has to stop with the pure wrestling matches.
Also, FTR aligning with Tully is cool but I think Shawn Spears is awful and that is going to hurt them.
True, but I don't think I'm ready to see him pull a Terry Funk and transition from technical wrestler to hardcore-esque brawler.
Seems like Summer Slam will air live from the Orlando Magic basketball stadium. WWE could host multiple events moving forward from that center. No fans are going to be in attendance
This is what was originally planned for the network. WWE having agreements or outright buying libraries to make a central location for multiple promotions. I’m all for it, hopefully they don’t just stop there. Hell, go out and start getting content from like local feds that have shows in front of 100 people at the fairgrounds. People will watch it
It was rumored that WWE was going to do sub levels and having access to something like this would be a tier and having everything under the sun was another. Based on Barios leaving it seems like they have scrapped that idea. Gone to this free and monthly sub. WWE is really dropping the ball with the network. From not having multiple tiers at different price points, to allowing you to sign up for free months to no end and finally not offering a yearly discount. With the rumors of them selling off PPV to a ESPN+ I’m thinking maybe they have just given up on the network and it’s just gonna be there and no effort or time really invested into it. They are happy with the 1m subs and will just go on as is.
I think when they didn’t get to buy the TNA library is when they started to sour on the original concept. If they had been able to do that, a lot of these smaller promotions would have started seeking them out. Then when Vince put NXT on TV and started farming the best PPVs to ESPN, they fucked up the concept they had fallen into. Maybe this is a sign that they are going back to the original concept, a one stop shop for all the worlds wrestling content where WWE has a preferred place? Spoiler its not, I’m just trying to be positive
