I guess if AEW wasn't a thing, I'd be allowed to freely talk negatively about WWE like you guys have for idk the last 4 years I've been following this thread. Dumping on the same shit over and over and hoping for something to change. Didn't even bring up AEW. Smackdown with it's built in WWE fanbase and FOX's mega promotion and platform is probably a couple weeks away from being around the usual RAW ratings. But let's talk about AEW.
I think you are both right. I'm sure FOX is not happy with those rating drops, but tbh their first week numbers were higher than I was expecting. I think they settle around this. If they drop to SD on USA numbers than it's very alarming. AEW is the one who needs to build a fan base. They dont have that built in number already. I think their drop is more alarming than WWE this week. But we are 2 weeks in. Let's see how it all plays out
They're still both going against playoff baseball right now too. Definitely need to see a couple months of everything to decide whats what. Really until mania that'd be about 6 months of all this change to settle in and go cycle through other sports seasons and see how much interest is built towards the biggest show of the year.
Damnit, you guys won't stop with the back and forth and I forgot what I originally came in here for. Randy
Wonder how AEW books their bigger events. WWE has a built in boost every year kind of between the Rumble and Mania. Wonder if AEW tries to market big events then too, or if they do the opposite and set up their major events around when WWE is usually in a down time to capitalize on the lack of interest in WWE
Twice is an exaggeration for sure. But because they're so bad at building their roster they have tons and tons of midcarders that no one sees as a main event threat. Spreading their few legit draws across 2 (3?) shows doesnt help. I'm looking at the roster and trying to figure out who Becky will feud with for the next three months that isn't a rehash, same with Seth. It's just the same four guys round and round
They've said they plan to keep shows on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Seems like they will build through the summer maybe? I think they're targeting 4 main ppvs. I do wonder about things on Mania week though. Joey Janela's Spring Break become a mini PPV like Fyterfest? They could film their weekly nearby? Idk. Will definitely be interesting to see.
They trying to set a 4 PPV rotation with set weekends. DoN and All Out will be the same weekend every year. Then there's Full Gear, which they haven't committed to being in Baltimore every year and will probably switch location whereas the other 2 they want to lock into Las Vegas and Chicago. It might hurt them cause I've seen the rumors of WWE wanting to run Takeovers the same weekend to stifle them more.
Who does AEW have as main eventers? Jericho, PAC, Moxley, Omega, Bucks and Cody? I would say just off the top of my head Rollins, Reigns, Kofi, Brock, Cain, Rey, KO, Braun, Bray, Orton, Gargano, Cole, Finn, Ciampa are at least on that same level as some those AEW guys or could be heated up quickly to at least be on that level. And there are a handful of others who could be there without much more work. And that doesnt even include the women. WWE has 6 women at least who are bigger stars than any female on AEW, and I'm not including Ronda who may be coming back.
Coupled with the fact there's ZERO LONG TERM BOOKING in WWE, everything is just fast tracked moments. Literally not a god damn thing in WWE makes sense or has lasting story appeal. But Uh AEW has too many kick outs mark! Feel like I live in a bizzaro world in this thread sometimes. I'm a fuckin wrestling fan, since I was like 8 years and WWF from the start. I'm in my late 30s now.
WWE has a shit ton of issues, plenty are well aware of that and are very vocal about it in this thread. I think the people who are "defending" WWE, if you can say that's even what is happening, are just pointing out the AEW hype train needs to be slowed down because some of the claims are exaggerated and they are not perfect either. I'm just hoping AEW is better about learning from mistakes and improving. I'm hopeful they are. Let's give them time and see how it goes. I'm cautiously optimistic about it
WWE has tons of main event level characters they just choose not to use them right. So you guys are arguing two different things. Who could Seth feud with? If you pushed Rusev, Big E, Braun (for real this time), KO, Roman, Daniel Bryan or even McIntyre no one would bat an eye that they couldn't main event. Miz is still a choice who can go too. The sheer amount of main event talent is staggering Women is more tricky. You have Asuka. You can eventually call up the other 4 from NXT and it'd be fire. But they choose to rotate the same 4 without having a fresh heel Banks go over.
Idk, I feel a company that's been around longer than some of you have been alive, that's been a global leader and the sole North American promotion for a while should have a grasp on how to book opponents and storylines for the champs outside of "hey, champ needs a feud. Have so and so attack him backstage!".
I didn't even want to make this an AEW discussion but I guess bigpig did with his exaggerated comment earlier. I'm trying to talk about how the main roster is a bad product and you guys the fans should demand/expect more.
This isn't a very complicated riddle. We really like wwe roster. We hate their booking 90% of the time. But then 10% of the time that awesome roster is right and it's the best.
Can you lay off the woe in me shit. Your a huge AEW guy and I get that. You have dumped on WWE for months and taken shots at the posters in this thread for being sheep who follow a product that sucks and do nothing about it. You’ve called this thread bizarro land multiple times. Yet get all worked up when someone simply points out that your product that was pushed for nearly a year and had months and months of build up just lost 30% of its viewers in a single week. And all AEW fans (you and others outside of this thread) want to talk about is NXT viewership drop.
100%. And Vince not listening has led to revolution against him. And hopefully at the end of the day our 17 years of bitching will finally evaluate all products.
Wrestling fans are just a weird group in general. Two weeks of NXT on network TV Two weeks of AEW on TNT Smackdown on Fox And the thing with the most buzz coming off this week is NWA Powerrr lol
No, woe is me is WWE fans, acting like victims for a billion dollar company that doesn't give a shit about their fans. You sunshine pump the WWE more than anyone in this thread for whatever reason. I don't know your motivation. You can't post a single example of what you're claiming I've done in this thread. I've just been trying to boost AEW and complain like the rest of you, but you take it so personally like you're invested in WWE. I want you to find it. I lost interest in WWE prior to AEW even becoming a thing and barely posted, like 6 times total in the first 5 months this year and someone tried to say it was my gimmick to say I didn't care about WWE. And you still aren't pumping accurate facts. AEW lost 19% of their viewers. On a show with only TWO recogizable faces in Moxley and Jericho. On a channel that hasn't had wrestling on it in almost 20 years. Building from scratch vs. the company that already gets 2-3 million viewers weekly. WTF.
It's the mid 90s again WWE is WWF - the old standard turned stale AEW is WCW - the new hotness NWA is ECW - the scrappy overachiever
I'm hopeful competition makes posting ITT better. It's like mom and dad are fighting at the dinner table in here. Maybe relax Poetic Bankz
Some AEW fans seem to take the criticism and complaints about the company almost personal and handwave them away while pointing at WWE. Not saying its anyone in this thread just in general from what Ive seen on Twitter and various sites. My only real complaint is that every match seems to go too long
Won’t be as harsh on aew as I was last week, but the main event ending with a goth kid coming to the ring on a skateboard? And he’s the #1 contender now? Ok real athletic competition indeed. Dynamic dudes crying gimmick infringement
Lmao, so WWE cant even follow their own rules they made up not even 3 days ago....so much for Free Agents.... Also Cesaro and Gable were in the draft pool and still havent been picked....
I assume you watch OSW review. If you do then their Summerslam review will go up tonight. I’m pumped for some Ludvig Borga vs Luger.
just finishing it up, they released it earlier for Patreon people it includes the worst match they’ve ever reviewed
Is it everything you dreamed? I was pumped to know they were going to continue in the new generation.
nursed this hangover with the Survivor Series Showdown they dropped last night, anxiously awaiting the main show
Realize I said summerslam and that was the last one. Without their commentary those old survivor series are boring. I hate those type of matches. WCW and TNA story arch are some of my favorites. Sunny side up is the best “film” review they have ever done.
How much do you pay btw and what access does that get you? Wouldn't mind dropping some coin for the fellas.
A fiver a month They do a good job with Patreon axclooosive!!! episodes, so I feel like I get my money’s worth
I'll be the first to tell everyone that Bayley's new music sounds like a ripoff of the Rock's late 90s theme. Now you wont be able to unheard it
Waiting for the wife to fall asleep tonight to watch, that show is a big reason I got back into wrestling. Stumbled on an episode and got on a binge and started checking back into the updated wwe programming. So I guess I can blame them for me watching the current product...
Mox was stripped of his IWGP US Title and a new champion was crowned. I hope this isn't the end of Mox in NJPW but it seems likely.
