Your position is people were excited about AJ Styles because of his work in TNA and not because he lead the most famous faction in professional wrestling since the NWO for 2 years right before his debut? Also is TNA now a large company but AEW and NJPW aren’t? You’re really doing some mental gymnastics here
They had 40K in the Tokyo Dome for the 2020 Wrestle Kingdom night one. And that was in the middle of a damn pandemic.
Remember when Nakamura debuted and everyone was going ape shit for him? I’m sure it was because of his handful of non-televised NXT matches.
You could have just said you don’t like the Young Bucks instead of defending your opinion with illogical idiocy and insults.
You do this whataboutsim all the time… just stop. I like the Bucks but his criticism is very valid. I agree with him, but it still doesn’t stop me from watching and enjoying it. I would still prefer to watch a FTR or USO’s tell a story and still give me holy shit moments. You constantly talking about WWE in defense of the style they do is fucking stupid. We all grew up on WWE so shaming people for watching the product is lame.
I did just say I don't like the Young Bucks, everyone interpreted that as an attack against NJPW even though I never mentioned them until everyone else did. Then when I pointed out in terms of scale NJPW isn't touching exposure that WWE or even AEW (or what Impact was doing on cable in its heyday when Styles was there) gets in the US market, everyone in here immediately started crying and having a temper tantrum.
TNA had a bigger TV audience than AEW… for those itt who keep track of those things and I know the few who do
This thread: Wrestler dressed as a warewolf is amazing Also this thread: You idiots enjoyed a zombie attacking a wrestler.
Bullshit. You attacked anyone who liked them and then attacked NJPW because people pointed out how fucking stupid your argument is.
I would argue that The Bucks made a name for themselves doing PWG, Chikara, Dragon Gate and small us Indy stuff before exploding in popularity thanks to being in NJPW.
AJ Styles made his name in TNA. You can’t slice it any other way. TNA in American had a larger US viewership numbers than AEW. AJ was long established and loved prior to NJPW. Now NJPW helped boost him in the eyes of the IWC no question on that. Also the rumble is a very marky crowd let’s not pretend he debuted in Iowa to that reaction. Essentially I’m both sides this thing lol.
Are you comparing a 40 year old company that produces similar content tailored to a different (and vastly smaller) market to a tech disruptor that out-maneuvered a poorly managed legacy brick and mortar chain because they couldn’t adapt to the Internet in this metaphor?
Television was very different when TNA was drawing 1 million viewers. They never touched AEW in terms of live attendance or PPV buys. WWE definitely does not want their numbers compared to what they were drawing on television back then.
This is a fair point… People now have many other avenues to take in the weekly product thanks to YouTube and social media clips and the boom of podcast vs tuning in for two to three hours a week on the TV.
Wrestling on TV is irrelevant compared to what it was back in the prime of TNA and in to the Attitude era. RAW these days rarely beats TNA's top rated episode of 2.2 million viewers
But if you look at the order of magnitude, the WWE flagship at that same time as that episode is getting about 40% now of what it was getting then, if you look at it comparatively that would be make that TNA viewership at its peak similar to some of the lighter weeklies Dynamite gets now I believe NJPW is getting about a tenth of that on a weekly basis in their US TV viewership but it’s hard to find good stats
Once ther People seem to use this dude for TV ratings... This is his latest graph NJPW numbers are not good...
Well yeah they barely have a TV presence in America. NJPW is still one of the biggest wrestling brands in the world. To argue anything else is just flat ignorance. I don't even know if AEW puts 40K butts in seats at an arena like NJPW recently has.
You defend WWE like you’re in the message board performance center and hoping to be noticed. We all watched WWE growing up, sure. Defending the current product is a big ask. It’s a rough watch most of the time. Me pointing out one of the silliest things we’ve ever seen in wrestling because jrmy is upset about synchronized spots was just a passing by comment. That’s it. I’ll let you in on a secret. 99% of us AEW fans are hoping that it being a superior product will make WWE improve their game and be appointment television again. I was super excited about the TV-14 rumors because that’s the first step. So we will continue to bitch and moan about the current WWE product not because we’re Team AEW, but because we know what WWE can be with some real competition. The current product they put out isn’t it. But letting KO be Kevin Steen, using so many of their elite talents in a proper way (AJ should be main eventing, not being used to babysit and oversee Omos for over a year), etc are things I hope we see soon. We bitch because we actually like wrestling and want to be entertained by WWE like we once were.
In my wrestling fan life, ive seen an elderly woman give birth to a hand, a dilapidated boat named skarsgard, a mortician get buried in concrete, the dude from scream win big gold, and “it was me Austin, it was me all along!” if some flips and shit are where you can no longer suspend your disbelief then I don’t know what to tell you Spoiler then again, if you haven’t watched WWE as much as you say then maybe that is where you draw the line
I’m not making an argument. The dude said he couldn’t find NJPW data and I posted an account that has some.
Fair enough. Not related to you but I think it’s funny that people are critiquing certain types of carny shows. I am not a fan of the Bucks, but I always find myself entertained, which is my goal for viewing.
