I think the highlight of WM weekend should be a segment where Rhea wins the title and simulates pegging Dom (who mentions that prison changes a man).

Triple threat with Trish, Lita and Becky vs. Dmg Ctrl. Not saying I want that, but I could see it potentially happening.

Appreciate the thoughtful response, and you bring up valid points. I'm not as sold on Cody as you are though. Baked into his popularity was being the first to jump ship from AEW. It's also hard not to pop for that entrance, his presentation is spectacular. But if you follow his story in AEW, he wasn't resonating anymore as a babyface. I've mentioned it before, but his need to announce Brandi being pregnant on TV, crying because he was going to be a Dad, and dedicating a segment to the gender reveal, to the awful tone deaf promos versus Ogogo, Cody just has this monster ego where he wants everything he says and does to be the most important. We all know that person in real life who asks how you're doing just so they can tell you all about their life. That's how I've always felt with Cody. I would've appreciated his run in AEW if he would've listened to the crowd and turned heel. But he views himself as the ultimate babyface. A main event at WrestleMania babyface. He's getting what he wants right now, but I'm curious how he'll respond if things don't go so well. To me, when things turned in AEW, when he was forced to move down the card as they increased their main event players, he decided to jump over to WWE. How does he respond if the crowds start chanting for Sami during the Mania build? I'm genuinely curious. WWE has guys they have hand picked to be main event guys. They've always been careful with the presentation of Roman, Cena, Brock, etc. They weren't that careful with the presentation of pre-AEW Cody. Watching old Rumbles with my son before last weekend, it's striking how little they thought of him as Dashing Cody Rhodes, Stardust, etc. Just getting dumped out of Rumbles by mid card guys with zero reaction. After the newness wears off, do they push him back down the card? My inclination would be yes, based on how they treated him in the past. Things are great between the two parties right now, because they're both getting what they want. The minute the crowd turns on him though, will be interesting.

Honest question, would Cody be as over if he never got injured? I just find his character rather bland and better as a heel.

I think everybody involved in the Bloodline storyline deserves their WrestleMania shine. In an ideal world, I'd like Sami/Roman night 1, with Roman retaining. Sami/KO vs The Usos Night 2, with Sami/KO winning the tag belts. Cody/Roman night 2, with Cody winning sending the crowd home with the babyface winning the title. You get your main events (Roman deserves both nights, nobody else is at that level), you come out of Mania with new people chasing Cody (assuming they split the belts and keep them on different brands), and a fresh KO/Sami tag team being chased by The Usos and others. The most refreshing thing about this Mania is they're not using past stars as a crutch, so the storylines coming out of Mania should flow well and continue seamlessly into the SummerSlam build.

I disagree. It’s a little self-righteous and self-aggrandizing but the way they’re able to present him in WWE and the 50 years of family history leading up to it make it feel far more appropriate there than it ever did in AEW.

I get your point. Seth is almost too cartoonish, KO would be there simply because he balances fun and entertaining. Sami is the wildcard as his story is so good and a tag title seems like less of a payoff to this story line. The other issues is Roman has plowed through every competitor so Cody is the only fresh rival, which is the odd.

I guess if I were ranking faces for Roman for me Cody is the good option. I’ve just watched this exact character on AEW and it got stale, so maybe that’s all I see.

But Beeds07 I agree with you at some point after his babyface run this presentation does lend itself to a “full of himself/sell out” kind of heel turn and angle.

I think what doomed Cody in AEW was the stip preventing him from wrestling for the world title. He got the biggest entrances and the most TV time but it felt out of place because he could never be in the main event. It felt self indulgent because of the lack of fit. I do think his run taking open challengers as TNT champ was probably the best still to date.

Idk how you can watch wwe right now and not think Cody is crazy over. That promo with heyman last night is getting rave reviews. Only reason anyone is questioning it is because they want the Sami story to end at mania… I’m kind of in that group too, but it has nothing to do with Cody

I think most AEW viewers don't like Cody and he hasn't changed his presentation in WWE so I get the negative viewpoint on his character. I think Cody (he's admitted to it in interviews) had to much control over his presentation and storylines in AEW. I did feel like Vince was shoving him 4-5 segments every RAW post Mania. And it was refreshing to see him in one single segment last night. It seems like under Vince and now Trips that Cody is the guy... not only for the insane contract he's likely getting but also because he's the first major act to leave AEW to join WWE and that in itself has a spotlight with talent who are looking too see if shit does go sideways are they just going to put the face paint back on Cody. So because he is over in small towns, large towns and because of the injury he's still relatively new to the WWE audience you can see him staying hot for a run coming out of Mania. I will say this will be a very interesting test for the new leadership if the crowd does turn on Cody and how they react and pivot. Vince would likely force feed him, I don't think Trips would. I don't think they are going to face that question anytime soon.

I guess it depends on what they would've done with him coming out of HITC. I would assume he would've featured in WAR Games. But its likely he's getting that returning from injury boost.

Roman has defended his titles as one unified championship since winning them at Mania last year. There was speculation that Cody would challenge for just one of those title (WWE title) leaving the other (Universal Title) to be defended on night 2 vs The Rock. But Cody challenged for the both of them... So that's been squashed.

All they discussion is based on what if and hypotheticals. Because on TV that dude is the most over act on RAW and probably only behind the Bloodline crew overall.

I would argue that Sami challenging Roman for the title in Canada at EC is bigger than challenging him N1 at Mania. The Sami/Bloodline story started with the Uso's and getting Jay's approval and being liked by Jay. It morphed into more but Sami's end story isn't really with Roman. It's with the Uso's and more specifically Jay. I can see Sami fighting his ass off at EC. Solo interferes but Sami is still able to over come... Then a returning Jay enters the ring and we think it's to help Sami... nope it's to finish him off and Roman wins. They end the night with a beat down of Sami as The Bloodline is whole... Next night Sami challenges Jay... Solo interferes and we get the KO return. And now where off to Mania.

It's going to be a sell out if it isn't already, and that happened months before we knew Cody vs. Roman would be officially happening. THey don't need Roman both nights to sell tickets.

I find it hard to believe someone is going to be like "Roman is not on the card for WRESTLEMANIA night 1? Fuck that shit, I'm not watching." People who want to watch WrestleMania are going to watch it because it's WrestleMania.

Sami doesn't need to wrestle Cody to get a big moment. Winning the tag titles with his real-life best friend Kevin Owens in the main event of the non-Roman night would be fucking massive with the crowd and with him personally. Assuming that's the direction they go, which I think many reasonable people believe that is where it's going.

It diminishes Roman's run to have him lose two nights in a row on the biggest wrestling event of the year after not being pinned clean in singles competition in over three years

It diminishes the win for the person who beats him on night 2 because they didn't compete against Roman at full strength and just sets up the lazy and uber predictable "well I want a rematch, I had to wrestle back to back nights, I wasn't 100%" angle. WHich would either lead to a short run for Codym, which would be bullshit rather you like him or not, or Roman losing yet again.

so there’s no point in building the best card possible because it will sell out anyway. got it.

and give me a break on diminishing a win. did it diminish Seth’s win when he cashed in on two beaten down guys? that’s nonsense nobody is going to pop less for Sami if Roman wrestled the night before.

Save the second $$$ match for another PLE that won't be an automatic sellout because it's not named WrestleMania if you really want to split the titles and have Roman take two straight PLE Ls.

YOu wouldn't throw all your money on a guaranteed win when you can spread it out and maximize the value of your money.

Again, if you want to tell a "the Roman Empire collapses" story, then having Roman wrestle and lose one title on night one, then wrestling more desperately and sloppily on night two, losing the second title there, is the way to do it.

Roman as champ is the biggest story in the WWE. Roman losing the titles will, therefore, be the biggest story in WWE. Having that happen across two nights of their biggest PPV of the year makes sense. This is not me saying "if they don't do that they're idiots" or whatever. It's just me saying if they wanted to kickstart that story, that'd be the biggest and best place to do it.

If anything, having him lose both titles in one match feels like the real bad idea here. Him carrying both feels like a man who has created an empire by beating multiple champs. Cody (or whoever) beating him for both just feels like someone winning a title and getting two belts. If they're not having Roman wrestle for both titles in separate matches, then I would just have Cody beat him for the world title and have Roman lose the other one later.

    But whatever

You split the titles so USA has a champion on their show full time (something they’ve been very vocal about for a while now), but Roman doesn’t lose a ton of heat by beating one of his two challengers. It also gives both nights a big match main event. It doesn’t seem like any of the women’s programs are hot enough to main event, and I don’t think KO/Sami vs the Usos is WrestleMania main event worthy.

Not really into fantasy booking stuff, but as opposed to Sami/Owens v. Usos for tag titles, or Roman wrestling both nights, I'd rather see...

    - Zayn v. Sikoa on Saturday
    - Zayn helps Cody beat the numbers game to win Sunday
    - The Smackdown title is vacated to give a belt to both shows the following weeks
    - Tournament for Smackdown title leads to Sami/Roman for that belt at a following PPV event

Roman wrestling both nights feels like it cheapens things a bit (at least for me). And Zayn/Owens for the tag belts seems like it takes Sami away from Roman in a way that's not satisfying in the end. Where they can/should go kind of depends on how they play the Elimination Chamber thing leading up to WM, though.

I'm very curious to see how they play Charlotte/Rhea, because that could be a match worthy of a main event, but I'm not sure about the build. And while Charlotte is apparently a babyface while Rhea is a heel, that belt has to go to Rhea at this point. And everyone knows it. Especially after they didn't pull that trigger a few years ago when they should have.
