Punk and MJF doing a 2 Man Power Trip style mega bad guy run together would be so much fun, obviously there's just about nothing he can do in Chicago to get booed (unless he came out in a Cardinals jersey eating a hot dog slathered in ketchup or something) but after the initial return show I'm hoping he goes full asshole. The last thing I want is him coming out apologetic and remorseful
Rollins flew from Saudi, filmed a Marvel movie and made Raw on a holiday weekend? Miro needs to smarten him up about taking time off for these acting gigs.
There is a video circulating of a match between Ishi and Asuka from Japan way back and I will say that it made me never want to watch that man wrestle again. The shit that was and maybe still is accepted in Japan is beyond the limits.
Ospreay just within the last month had softened his stance a bit on his unwillingness to live in America, but the above was the most emphatic quote I've seen yet about him not wanting to live in America. Must have not particularly enjoyed his time in America when he came over for the last NJPW show.
This is some top notch video work on Kris Statlander’s injury recovery. Make her the face of the entire damn women’s division!
The hardcores that follow everything loves Forbidden Door. People like me who still follow it more than normal knows it’s a detriment to the overall product. Puts a stall on every story in the company for over a month. Stupid.
The occasional Forbidden Door type appearance to promote an angle or to do a big match is ok. Stop fucking having 5 promotions worth of belts on your program year round and doing a whole cross promotional PPV that eats up your valuable TV time with a bunch of guys that wrestle overseas instead getting over the guys that will be on TV the rest of the year And for god sakes someone throw away the “_____ is All Elite” graphic and tell Tony to stop trying to pop ratings by signing 20 new talents a year he stops pushing after 3 months when he has a handful of new toys.
Exactly. Not everybody can be like Action Andretti and get signed the same night Jericho puts him over and shoots him straight to superstardom. That was a fun argument in here and a lot of dumb opinions.
the worst is when they bring in that one old Japanese guy with the goofy hair and act like he's this huge deal and he has the same exact match where he trades standing chops for 5 minutes with someone
But he was a huge deal in Japan in 2003 and he shows up in AEW because he has an issue with somebody he’s never faced before and then they stare at each other from a distance for the next three weeks because they have no story or there is a language barrier. It’s good stuff.
MJF fucked it up pretty good too. Pretty much was the catalyst for the pile of outside of the ring bullshit that has plagued AEW over the last year. Some of the Forbidden Door stuff is going to last thru All In/All Out season in some capacity because of Will Ospreay/United Empire and the Elite vs. BCC stuff. Potentially also Bullet Club stuff depending on what direction they take it. Maybe more but I don't really have any other general idea of where it looks like we're headed. So it's not like Forbidden Door is going to be operating in a vacuum from the other 11 months of AEW like it did last year.
I would say Punk fucked the momentum. The Mox/Punk story wasn’t great but they were still hot headed into that show. Punk being Champ and then losing the title to MJF months later would have changed quite a bit. Realistically if Punk hadn’t gotten hurt and turned into a psycho, MJF might not even have won the title yet.
I think MJF getting suspended and Punk getting hurt was more of a factor than forbidden door happening.
It was a comedy of errors. There were a dozen little things and a half dozen big ones that made last year the company's worst in its very short history.
creatively maybe but 2022 was a very good year for them from a revenue perspective and I imagine 2023 will end up being even better with the new tv deal
That Wembley show going to do a killing for the revenue as well. Probably going to bring in more revenue than all their other million dollar gate shows combined.
I don’t buy it. The Venn Diagram of viewers of AEW and NJPW is a large circle titled AEW with a smaller circle inside of it for New Japan in the western media markets that matter. In Japan the money in wrestling is made around large events not episodic TV so unless they’re putting on PPVs in Japan down the road I don’t see the return. Tony is wasting a lot of TV time to do free marketing for NJPW in the states and squander opportunities to promote his own assets to pop himself. The only winners in AEW are probably the boys making more money on appearances in Japan.
She’s so likable, I hope she can carry this realness into her character. Her promos can feel so robotic, she just needs to be herself
the announcements don’t even pop ratings anymore. He should just do what WWE does and leak the news to someone like Sports Illustrated or Variety early in the day and then have the announcers reference it on the show and move on. I guess he just likes being on TV
That platform has like 120k subscribers and generates maybe $10 million annually in revenue…for New Japan. Even if he’s getting a significant cut of that in some kind of non-Japan subscription growth incentive I don’t see how any of that moves the needle for them.
As of mid September 2022, New Japan World and Stardom World (which is considerably smaller) had annual revenue of $39 million. And of course since then they saw Mercedes debut which added quite a lot of new subscribers. https://411mania.com/wrestling/late...shows-increased-revenue-for-njpw-and-stardom/
