MJF and Punk bought them some short term buzz while involving your entire program vs people 90% of the audience knows nothing about brought....not much.
I'm a casual wrestling fan. I don't know who the heck anyone is in AEW. The few times I've tried to watch it it just didn't make any sense to me. I've said it before, I'm in it for the soap opera aspect. I don't really care much about the actual in-ring stuff unless it's part of building the story. AEW to me is more in-ring, WWE is more soap opera, so I only watch WWE casually. But to act like everyone knows who is in AEW is wrong. Hell, I thought that one fellers name was Orange Juice until y'all corrected me.
that was like the least exciting way to reveal CM Punk is back but i guess they needed to get the word out quick to boost the ticket sales
Just now catching up but this Hangman and the Dork Order segments bring him down as a top guy.!it’s so damn stupid.
Dominion is on Sunday, so part of me wonders of MJF might end up on that show to set up a match at Forbidden Door. Of course Moxley and Claudio are headed to Japan as well and were on the show tonight, so who knows.
Crowd was hot and loud. Great work. Solid show with some great moments, all of which were elevated by the crowd.
Had to stop watching Dynamite to finish Ted Lasso. Just got to Callis segment. Holy shit this heat is amazing.
Hopefully Cole/Jericho is over now. Tonight’s match was 1000% better than Sunday’s…admittedly a low bar
I enjoy listening to Cornette talk about Moxley/Elite PPV matches. Doesn't matter if I agree with him or not. They just piss him off so much that it's very amusing
I still can’t believe that people hold Cornette in high regard when he’s the same person that wouldn’t book Steen and Generico in ROH, instead building the promotion around Adam Pearce and Brent Allbright. He hasn’t had a good idea since 1994.
I must have missed this detail but FTR and Juice are banned from ringside for that Jay White vs. RICKYYYYY match next week so guess at least one new Bullet Club Gold member is showing up then. Still think the Gunns should join. Because it’s the BULLET Club, they are actually good with a live mic, they have history with FTR, are young with potential and AEW needs to stay committed to people like that.
I will say I mostly agree with him on what makes good wrestling he just has stupid grudges he holds that directly contradict his own opinions on good wrestling Things like pacing the show so you don’t hit all the spots and they don’t hit the same for your money matches, needing to make things look believable, hardcore wrestling is trash, and that if you bring a guy out of a box he’s instantly over
There is no way Punk and the Elite are going to be able to not work together. The crowds are going to be split for both of them, but how split will depend on the market. Should be fascinating.
Sounds like Cody pitched a dog collar match to blow off his feud with Brock and they told him to quit dreaming
I don’t mind Forbidden Door for the most part. It’s similar to the early Blood Money events where they did something once a year to placate a group. I’m not the expert many are here but it seems like the Bloodline feud advancement isn’t something they usually do there. FD gives their base of hardcore fans some dream matches they’ve always talked about. Last year kinda sucked because Okada, Danielson and Punk and others I recall were hurt and the matches were meh. Ospreay/Cassidy doesnt have the juice (pun intended) of the planned Danielson/Ospreay match, and AEW was in full scramble mode last year after Punk IIRC. I think with some better matches that don’t dip into continuity, it could be what their hardcore wrestling base likes.
Kinda interesting to see Undertaker and Hitler so close to each other it but it makes sense. They each really had two act careers. With the Undertaker you had the early goth phase with Paul Bearer and then you had the Limp Bizkit motorcycle American badass phase and with Hitler you had his art school phase and his post art school phase. Very intriguing parallels between the two men.
And Jericho put him over clean as a sheet. He gets a lot of hate, some of it deserved, but he's a bonafide legend and isn't going over guys the way Hogan did in WCW or TNA.
Cody would end up decapitated like a Mortal Kombat fatality. Brock wouldn't even mean to do it, either.
Okada wrestled against Jay White and Adam Cole last year. Punk, Omega, and Danielson being hurt really fucked things up though. Don't know if MJF would have been involved but his absence didn't exactly help. Pretty sure the plan was Danielson vs. Sabre Jr last year though. Don't know if we get that this year with both being heels. Think it well end up being OC vs. Sabre Jr based on OC's post-DON presser comments. Okada vs. Moxley is looking like it might be the plan if they want to put Okada in only a singles match. And of course we're getting Omega vs. Ospreay II (assuming Ospreay beats Lance Archer this weekend) for the IWGP US belt.
