If you asked me to 2 years ago if we would be having this level of WWE vs AEW arguments now, I would have laughed and said AEW won’t last that long or be another TNA, but by god here we are and I’m all for it. Pro graps Renaissance up coming.
I just can't wait for guys to come out of contract in AEW and jump to WWE. We then have something really fun.
Do you really expect much of this? I’m completely off wwe programming as far as watching goes, I have a pretty tight knit group of buddies we used to get together for most PPVs regardless of brands so I kept up with results mostly for that, but wwes new business models seems to deter that from being a thing now with their “no Indy” attitude.
I don’t see it. Why would you want to leave a hot company that gives you total independence and way less workload to go to a company that owns everything you do and calls you Bearcat. Listen to Coles podcast with Jericho. There are a lot of reasons he decided to go to AEW instead of staying with WWE.
People still like money and WWE can spend as much as they want if they feel threatened. I personally hope they continue to believe the answer is in the charisma vacuums they are featuring on 2.0 (not Steiner, he's cool) and nobody goes to WWE.
I just don't see who the talent is that is going to jump to WWE in any meaningful capacity. Omega - no Baker - just re-upped. Miro - no Lucha Brothers - no Adam Page - doubtful Brian Cage - doubtful FTR - no Darby - what a magnificent disaster that would be. Ethan Page - possibly Private Party - who cares Jungle Boy - no MJF - possibly Ricky Starks - I don't see him leaving and he knows his size would hurt him in WWE. Santana & Ortiz- Don't see them leaving. Bucks - no Wardlow - He is the one I could see leaving and make a fortune in WWE. Outside of Baker, nobody on the womens roster has a big enough name to shake things up.
MJF needs to stay in AEW. His promos are top notch but he’s edgy as fuck and would be super dumbed down in WWE. It wouldn’t even be fun. Wardlow could leave. He’s the prototype for WWE. Brian Cage I could see as well and he fits the physical appearance they really like.
Oh I agree. He doesn't need to go anywhere near AEW, but he seems like the type that would chase the money eventually.
Just got tickets to Rampage and Full Gear in Minneapolis. $200 for the set, lower level right in front of the ring. Am psyched.
Doesn't feel like there's as much smoke or buzz about it as there was Bryan and Punk, or even Cole. Then again they had Sting show up as a total surprise a couple years back.
Wyatt is a character you don't announce ahead of time and try to keep quiet. I would love for Hangman to come back and make up with the Dark Order only for the lights to go out and Wyatt appears and they all turn on Page.
Yes, because people want the spotlight and regardless of how "hot" a company is WWE is still and always will be the mecca. Also look at some of these talents who left WWE and thought they would be in the spotlight and featured and get a better chance to shine. You have a few that are no better in AEW that they were in WWE. And you will have some younger talent that may want to see if they can cut it in WWE that wont get the spotlight in AEW they may feel they should get. Finally its about money, none of these guys are doing this for free. EDIT: not saying AEW doesn't pay well, just that WWE has stupid money they can throw at talent.
I don't know how you reconcile that with Page's long-term journey back to a title match with Kenny but if they could like shoot on him becoming a dad giving him the confidence he needs to get his shit together and then separate him from the Dark Order and have Husky Harris kinda take them back down their original path that would be interesting.
I would expect Routunda do some spin off of the Fiend type character. He posted a sketch of a new mask on twitter recently. He's very much into the character aspect of wrestling. I can't see him coming out a Windham Routunda and just be himself or "normal"
This is why I really don't understand why WWE didn't keep him around. Seems like a perfect match despite their inability to book him.
He's so perfect for what WWE does. A lot of the roster cuts make sense, some of the female talent had husbands in AEW and thus were given a release, some just are never going to cut or have not in WWE. Bray was one of the very few cuts that made zero sense at all. I'm guessing the 1 v 1 relationship with Vince may have played a role and maybe he just wanted him to be happy. Nobody really will ever know because Vince never goes on record about this stuff. Vince can create characters anytime he wants, he's got an endless supply of talent not only on main roster but in developmental. Let a guy like Bray go now and down the road he can always return.
Apparently he butted heads with creative, told them no a lot more toward the end than he did early on, and was too protective of his character.
I think you let Omega feud with (and beat) guys like Danielson and Punk while they're white hot. A Page/Wyatt feud in the meantime is the absolute perfect way to keep Page simmering until he ultimately takes the belt off Omega. It'll mean even more when he's put down those other guys with the one winged angel and Page is the first to kick out of it.
I didn't see that about Bray, but he 100% should fight and defend his creation. Same thing was reported about Black and his character.
The backstage promo work has been pretty great. The ring gear is a massive disconnect from the promo.
Wyatt comes up with the kind of characters that can spend two years just having feuds in the upper midcard, having fun segments, good enough matches, moving merch, keeping the crowds energized, and never come near a title belt. In that scenario he never needs to lose a feud. He can then, occasionally, slide believably into the main-event and win the title, carry it for a while and pass it to a babyface, before cycling back down to the upper-midcard for a couple years with new feuds. It takes a special kind of character to pull that off; a Jake the Snake kind of guy. WWE had it with Wyatt. Uber popular, very creative, a marketable (edgy cartoon character) look that Vince loves, and a big merch mover. How they dropped the ball with him I cannot fathom. It's like they can't help themselves but meddle and try to fix what isn't broken.
He's a pretty creative guy, I'm sure he'll come up with something good. Also, based on what Seth Rollins said on the SCSA podcast, I really want to hear Rotunda's reaction to that match.
If he loses a match to Page, but gains a cult, did he really lose? Also, when you have as STACKED of a roster as AEW now does, not everybody can win all the time. Guys can lose a match and bounce back. This isn't WWE where the handful of bona fide stars are always protected. Losses are ok. Guys can rebound from them, especially if they're over. I'm the biggest Wyatt fan there is, and I'd have no problem with him losing to Page, the eventual champion.
Don't know if you saw the tweet but he responded to Seth's comments with "wait till they hear from me"
It's the same answer every time this is asked and its asked often. This is Vince's sandbox and he will do what he wants. The nice thing is we have a alternative for those that are creative and want say. So looking forward to him being able to make his character what he wants in AEW. Wyatt is without question the guy I'm most looking forward to seeing his creative genius in AEW. The other guys for the most part are just uber talented in ring talents who get to shine... that man is a character genius and i'm all for his mind being able to be unleashed.
Bray wrestled in the WWE and was taking L's when 70% of AEW was in WWE. I'm all about actually winning and losing of matches... I'm just pointing out that the constant bitching itt about Bray was he always lost a feud and was having some fun about it.
Instead of dark order let Windham wipe out sting and take Darby under his wing. Sting is there to get other guys over. He’s done it with Darby now use that capital to get windham over
I don't know if Darby needs Sting anymore much less Windham. But then again I love Sting and want him to stick around on TV. Crowds love him too and the company is using him better than just about any legend with limited ability I've ever seen
Make him go clean shaven and wear trunks and go by his real name, put him in Pinnacle mostly being used in a tag with fellow top guy Shawn Spears managed by Tully It’s perfect
Flyers are trying out potential new goal songs this preseason. first one caught me ear but I couldn’t place it until I realized it was the Jurassic Express entrance music.
Whenever it happens I can't wait to see what he's done with his new character. But even more than that, I'm ready for Hangman to come back.
