Don’t think he at least attempts to get in ring shape? I mean I know not to expect a 20-minute classic by any means but he should at least get in good enough ring shape to do a 10-12 minute bout
This thread would be better off if people could just treat WWE and AEW as the separate companies they are. I get the competition aspect, but most of the time any criticism is met with “well what about (other company??” or if you say one did something positive/negative you’re now 100% pro/anti that company.
I ask this genuinely and not trying to troll anyone. Was he like this pre-AEW? Sometimes I’ve just assumed he’s “in character” to get the AEW people riled up.
Do people want cookie cutter and predicable or do you want swerves and shock? If you prefer paint by numbers then so be it… clearly we see things differently and that’s cool.
I mean, the Rock making a surprise appearance at RR and winning would have been quite the swerve/shock.
Roman's slow plodding ring style will work well for The Rock. The entrances up until when they first lock up will probably last longer than the match. Then the inevitable Jimmy and Solo run in will occur.
You can have swerve and shock and have it be done in a logical fashion that doesn't bury two other wrestlers and a title belt.
I watched on peacock and wasn’t in the arena but based off the sound on TV that crowd did not come off as only behind punk and being respectful to Cody. People were every bit if not more invested into Cody. I don’t have an issue with Rock being introduced to the story this way over the Rumble scenario you like because I still believe you would have a ton of negative feedback that he shows up and wins the rumble. We can agree to disagree on how to slice the cake. I have 10+ years on this board of being critical of WWE. It’s documented on these pages and multiple threads. I don’t pretend to not be a WWE guy. I know you just started being honest about AEW, some of us can do it all the time.
I still like the idea of Cody v Rock night one, Cody takes his title. Rock v Roman night two, Rock takes his seat at the head of the table. We see a completely new side of Roman over the next year after losing everything. Seth's title can be a multi man match to save his knee and reward guys like Gunther, Drew, Knight who have been putting in phenomenal work. Or one of those guys wins EC and takes Seth's title. Cody vs Seth feels forced and not a decision Cody would ever really make.
LOL still combative, you can't help yourself. Others can chime in who were also there, crowd was very much pro-Punk. So you honestly believe The Rock being given the main event spot because of reasons would be met with less resistance than winning the Rumble and earning his spot?
did you make these same claims when MJF buried everyone he went up against, brought real life relationships into the conversation and called his boss a fucking mark? Like when is it ok to cut promos that cut deep and have truth? Only when AEW talent do it? Seth crushed Roman on Monday he spit facts about a champion who never shows up, never defends the title and it being about Hollywood and not wrestling. It was amazing. Roman produced the counter argument, also based on fact, and it was amazing. Nothing and nobody was buried. all you ever do is read tweets on X and regurgitate the same fucking opinions of the idiots in the comment section. You rarely ever have intelligent points with nuance and balance. JD from NY hates it and you run in here echoing his words. That’s who you are.
Cody was actually cutting a really good promo, then that promo made no sense when he relinquished his spot to The Rock and basically showing he's been cucked. Gotta give it time to see where this is going before making too many assumptions, but WWE should know not to piss off a Philadelphia crowd.
His promo, which I just saw before I read this thread, was he wants to ruin Roman Reigns and having his family beat him (and making him no longer the head of the table) which would take everything away from him and ruin him more than if Cody just beat him. He says he's coming for that title, but it can wait because ruining Roman is more important. I don't think it's nearly as bad as some of you make it out to be. Roman going to beat Rock. Cody will still be the guy to beat him eventually Not saying it's great, but I'm willing to see where it is going. Rock v Roman is a mega match, biggest match probably there could be in wrestling right now.
I think they would’ve caught shit either way. Winning the Rumble at the 30 spot from a returning superstar is boring and done a million times before. Cody just did it last year. So I’m cool with how they are moving and willing to let them tell the story why.
That’s not what I said Shawn If your going to be dishonest with what I posted we can end the convo here.
It’s okay if Luchador Sin Nombre comes in and main events a show but if it’s arguably the greatest superstar of all time that’s bad
if you're talking about the amount of squash matches that used to be on TV back in the 80s and early 90s? Storylines and larger the life characters still sold all the tickets back then too
Nice edit bud. Your original post which is still in my reply literally said: Bankz said: ↑ I think they would’ve caught shit either way, winning the Rumble is boring and done a million times before. Cody winning last year was boring as fuck and repeating it again this year with Rock wouldn’t be any better. Who's being dishonest?
Apparently it's not even main eventing the company where everything matters folks, feel the star power:
This is where I think it’s going. Cody will come out Monday and cut a promo about family, how family is everything how his father being denied the WWE title drives him. It’s why when The Rock called and talked about his family being ruined because of Roman he had to step in. To take over as head of the table. So he can unite brothers and the family and remove Roman as head of table… allowing Cody the runway to finally have a fair match against Cody where he can finish his story and not be robbed. That type of explanation works in justifying why Rock was handed the spot, cements Cody as an ultra baby face. And lets the world know Cody v Roman II is on the way.
LoL.. no fucking way, this is actually happening or planned? What happened to Coles group? Weren’t they going to take over AEW?
Since it's a COMPLETELY different point, sure. I don't think that would be boring at all. I don't think anybody thinks that. In kayfabe, why doesn't Roman just blow Rock off and deny his request for a match? He's not owed anything right now. If Rock wins the Rumble, he's in control and gets to dictate to Roman that they're fighting at Mania.
seems like she would've been a good fit for NXT then, the roster of women that HBK is assembling down there is just
Anna Jay, Mariah May, Skyy Blue, Aminata, and Harley Cameron are bringing the heat in their own right.
still don't get why Anna Jay basically sits on the sidelines most weeks and meanwhile Deonna Purazzo is about to get a PPV title shot
It’s your hypothetical. I assumed we were using it during this convo. I edited to make sure it was clear. It’s not different point. Every time a family member has challenged for the head of the table or control of the family from Roman he’s accepted the challenge. Jimmy, Jey twice… then the tag match. It makes sense under the bloodline story arc
Probably has a lot to do with Storm having the title. They're actually telling a really good story with Purrazzo/Storm and their previous friendship.
You're probably right, I just don't see it with her. She sounds like she's about to cry when she does live promos, pretty average look, not really interested in overly technical wrestling when it comes to the women. Whole division is gonna need a reset when Sasha shows up if they wanna do storylines/feuds worth being in the main event.
thread is unbearable. AEW does dumb things and the WWE die-hards rag on it ceaselessly. Fine. Fair. WWE potentially does a dumb thing and WWE die-hards refuse to accept even a hint of criticism and play what-about-ism games. Right now, it looks like Rock vs Roman is happening. As a result, it's all "this is the right move because ______________." If, in a month, things change and Rock pivots to something like an "enforcer" role and the match becomes Cody vs Reigns, it will be: "this is the right move because _____________." In WWE, there are no bad moves. Everything is perfect. It's like the Soviet Union.
I don’t think the Rock can still go in the ring for a singles main event match. Could be proven wrong but dude is old and hasn’t been doing this for years. My biggest annoyance is Damian Priest still holding the Money in the Bank briefcase and never cashing it in.
