I just don’t think they are going to get hot again. The damage is done. If you look at viewership now versus viewership then they are declining at a WCW 2000 pace. I believe at one point they were down in the 400k range for Dynamite last week. Tony can’t book and all the people that knew better are gone and now you just have a bunch of people doing whatever the hell they want with no pushback or filter.
Which is sad because they have a ton of talent but nobody there to make them better or give them any direction.
even when WWF was getting their ass beat by WCW in 96/97 during the 83 weeks, they still at least ran the occasional NBA/NHL arena and the major arena in most of the cities they went to. AEW is running buildings I didn't even know existed in some of these cities. If you can't put at least 4500+ into an arena for your wrestling show on a weekly basis, thats a sign to find a new booker and overhaul creative and your roster
They won’t have Brody beat Okada but they should. The crowd loves Brody and Okada doesn’t need that title.
This is the company where the owner brags about spending millions on licensed music and flies his roster across the world without a ring or any plans to procure same. Talent having to call in favors to borrow a janky ass Indy ring. I am sure shipping a ring to Australia is a bitch, but they could easily have one built over there. Partner with a local Indy and tell them to hang on to it until you come back. Maybe generate some good will for once in your life.
Brody is actually marketable and unique, Okada has been a huge bust and pulled the Nakamura special of getting an American bag and going on cruise control (not that I can blame him)
There's been some really good storylines lately with Ospreay/Fletcher, Swerve/Ricochet, Toni/Mariah, Omega/Takeshita, and MJF/Hangman has a chance to be one of the best feuds of the year. Harley Cameron and Outrunners ascent has been fun. But there's also just filler shit that's not needed and if the plan was to run with Mox until he loses to Ospreay at Double or Nothing, need to change those plans just to get the belt off Mox quicker, like this Sunday and have it involve Christian's Casino Gauntlet cash-in or something.
Sunday has a chance to be one of AEW's best PPVs if booked properly, because the in-ring stuff is going to be off the charts good.
Saw a clip of the new WWE Evolve show on Tubi, that Jack Cartwheel (awful name) is gonna make Will Ospreay look like Ken fuckin Shamrock. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a more flippy oriented wrestler. He hit like 10 gymnastics moves in a row
also WWE started a separate YouTube channel today for old WCW shows and matches and already posted some heat on there like Macho vs DDP no DQ from Spring Stampede
when OSW gets referenced in a WWE video game should probably copyright strike because well well well how the turntables and what not
That’s for sure one of the things that kept him out along with Vince’s no wheelchair rule. He is definitely the top guy from that era not in.
Favorite Lex match was for the US Title with Stan Hansen. Hansen beats him clean and then blows a booger onto the ring.
I like when he tried to big time Bruiser Brody before a cage match and Brody just no sold everything until Lex just ran off
We need a biopic on Bruiser Brody’s career and death. One of the more interesting wrestlers of all time.
there is one. He was so cool and it’s bullshit he got murdered and the Puerto Rican authorities were like oh well that sucks
Guys… Luger is the definition of mid and if WWE had any standards he wouldn’t be near the hall of fame
Luger should have been in the HOF a long time ago. Even if you aren’t a fan. Member of the Horsemen, bodyslammed Yoko, started the wrestling wars with his debut on Nitro, first one to beat heel Hogan. What are you even talking about?
Wwe hall of fame has no real standards and isn't worth arguing about. But i can tell you luger had more of an impact than a lot of people in there already and should be in given the current standards. He isn't even the worst announced entry in this current class
Lex was a (deserved) featured main eventer for WCW during the period they were routinely kicking WWF’s ass as the number one promotion on the planet. Go watch the crowd react to him beating Hogan for the world title on Nitro. His WWF run suffered because they booked that stupid count out finish at Summerslam against Yoko. Imagine Cody beating Roman by count out at Summerslam 2023 and celebrating like he just won the Super Bowl. He was toast as THE guy after that.
I have a pretty good musical memory and for the life of me, I can't remember the quintessential Lex Luger entrance theme. Stars & Stripes Forever during the Lex Express year is the only thing that comes to mind, but I don’t count that.
I think of his WCW theme from the Nitro days, dunno what it’s called but as soon as it hit everybody in the crowd was doing the Torture Rack gesture
Calling this last Cena run a full time run is pretty funny. He isn't showing up this week and Spoiler: Spoiler I'd guess Cody wins because Cena is not advertised for a ton of dates post Mania until only 3 dates like May and June
he had the most generic ass WCW theme during the Monday night wars, was terrible, I'm pretty sure the Stars & Stripes music played a bog role in me not buying All American Lex but the short lived theme he had afterwards before jumping ship I really liked, his Narcissist music was cool too, or at least fitting you're right though I don't think he has a quintessential theme
Did a random fan sneak into the ring during that baby face celebration? Also, another reminder how long Rey has been around.
OF COURSE Vince would have a no wheelchair rule. Single handedly responsible for making guys work 300 days, taking bumps on a much tougher ring than currently used, then refused to honor anyone forced to use a wheelchair in later years.
