If all the WWE PLEs weren't on Peacock, I might order 2 of them a year between WM and Summer Slam. Since they're on Peacock, it's fine and I'll watch them if they have enough interesting stories. AEW's PPVs are generally great, but I'm not buying one every month. Fuck that.
If they're going to charge people for PPVs, then they need to only charge for like 2-3 of the big ones and put the rest just on Max like normal.
I never watched PPVs before the WWE Network. My parents wouldn't pay for it during the Attitude Era, kinda tuned out during most of the Ruthless Aggression Era, and once I had my own money to spend, I simply didn't care enough during the PG Era. It's the same reason I'll never spend $50 on an AEW ppv. My level of caring doesn't meet the cost for entry.
Charging extra for PPVs on a streaming service fans already have to pay for at a time WWE doesn’t would be dumb.
Was a combo of CM Punk pipe bomb and the launch of the WWE Network for me. Now my son is obsessed and even my daughter is getting into it. So I don't think we'll be dropping our Peacock subscription any time soon.
Exactly. A quarterly PPV gives a minimum of 3 months for a story with an option of almost a year if you make it a 3 PPV match feud
I actually think it could help AEW with storylines, especially if it's streaming and they're not worried about buys. AEW loves to put on IWC dream matches and cards that are just great wrestling even if there isn't much storyline behind it. let them do that 3-4 times a year outside of the storylines. almost like a pause for a special event before going back to your regularly scheduled programming.
I don't really think it matters either way unless the addition of more PPVs caused a tangible change in the way the company is booked and run. The guy running the show wants to book fantasy matches and let his guys do whatever they want outside of that. Which is the reason why the PPV matches are really fun but generally have no build or story coming into or out of them. And I'm not sure how adding 6-8 more big events is going to change that if nothing else has over the last 5 years.
Could not agree more, but I don't have a ton of faith they'd actually do this and allow Roman to get pinned before a match of that magnitude.
Sounds like WWE’s marketing department has been gutted. TK needs to swoop in and save the day for some of these people.
There really isn't one, but who knows what will happen if they expand to monthly PPVs. It used to be, with 4 PPVs, you didn't have one WM style show, you had four, so there was no big reset. Maybe if they go monthly, they'll let All In become their big blowout. But even then, WrestleMania itself hasn't felt like a season finale in a long time. Lots of people have takes regarding the way AEW does its storytelling. My take is TK needs to learn how to book backwards. Back in the day, Vince, Pat Patterson, and whoever else was in his inner circle at the time, would pick out one or two big matches for WrestleMania or SummerSlam, and then work backwards from there, not just planning matches, but storyline beats. That all sort of when away when Russo started crash-TV booking things, but that's the approach I would have TK take. What do you want the main-event of Full Gear to be? Swerve vs MJF? Set that and then back up six weeks or whatever it is and lay out the major storybeats that need to happen to get you there. I think he cares too much about match-making and leaves the in between storytelling to be worked out on the fly.
unlike the ticket sales for Dynamite and Collision which are cratering at the moment, the PPV ticket sales are still mostly okay, and I think part of the reason for that is there's a segment of the AEW fanbase that will fly in for each of those shows. But asking those people to do it 12 times a year instead of 5 or 6 is a lot. And if the attendance starts to crater at PPV events too then the atmosphere at those takes a major dip as well
Digital Media, Live Events, and Marketing departments all with a bunch of cuts. Time to start making it rain on the backstage hires, TK. Three areas they could massively use help in.
Rock working blue on network TV. Good thing the guy working the delay button didn’t get laid off today
You know, it kind of sucks to know I don't live in an area, where a random showing like that could happen at a show I'd be able to go to. Hearing that pop live would be awesome
They're going to do Rock vs. Roman for the title at WrestleMania 40 and Cody still won't finish his story lol
Meanwhile AEW dark matches on Dynamite this week were... QTV vs. Brandon Cutler and Colt Cabana Sky Blue vs. MArina Shafir Anna Jaye and Taya Valkyrie vs. two local talents
