I refuse to believe this is real Has to be something like a group of redditors thought it'd be funny to mass report
The Elite don’t draw on TV. Surprised the main event didn’t do better, Acclaimed normally get a sizable bump. Their bump was basically nothing
The elite may be the most overrated act in wrestling history. They can have some fun matches so the hard-core fans which including all the wrestling media love them. But they don't get over with the casual fans and can't draw outside of their niche fan base. Taking their side over Punks and even Cody is going to cost them viewers, but Tony is so heavily involved with them he doesn't have much choice. I mean 150k people left after watching Danielson and didn't stick around for them. Hell over a quarter million tuned out from the start of the show instead of watching them. It'll be interesting to see what Tony does with this. I'm assuming elite show up opening segment next week so they can claim the big bang carryover audience for their segment
My post will apply more to the Young Bucks than anything, but yeah, I was kind of thinking about this during their entrance yesterday. I can see why people enjoy them and their matches, but it definitely seems like it would only appeal to the niche/hardcore fans. Something about them just annoys me, and not in a “heel” way. Best way I can describe it is they’re just trying way too hard to act like pro wrestlers. I don’t want to say it’s not natural, but it all seems forced or something. Somehow it makes them come off way more generic/boring than they actually are.
To be completely fair I don't watch njpw and haven't seen Kenny do a solo run outside aew, so I'll withhold sweeping judgements about him as a single act. But if you want him to be a star get him away from Bucks and callis and all those guys
It's on New Japan World. I'm sure it's still available on one of them sites that posts all the pirated streams for wrestling.
I like seeing people get beat the fuck up (UFC) but this slap shit isn’t for me and makes me cringe from what I’ve seen.
This would be a good signing. He looks like what we have been told is what a wrestler should look like and he doesn’t try to wrestle like a midget like Brian Cage
They wrestle the same exact way whether they are good guys or bad guys and they invest almost 0 time into character work so it's pretty much a weekly "here's a 15-20 minute spotfest" that Meltzer and co. will love but doesn't feel that connected to the bigger picture of the show. Them creating a vanity title to do triple threat matches makes them feel on their own island given there's about half a dozen "trios" acts in the company and none feature main event players
Funny enough I was going to say the two things that annoy me the most are the fact they always seem to be doing the same thing as the last time I saw them and that they come off like whatever they’re doing is a big deal when it’s not. And not in a cocky heel way.
not exactly an endorsement of the MJF only wrestles once a month plan if the match doesn't pop a rating whatsoever
This is just my opinion as a semi-casual fan but I think AEW has to decide if they’re ok with the current ratings or if they want to reach a new audience. Maybe they already have. It seems like they mostly cater to the hardcore/IWC type fan, which is fine, but I don’t see that getting new people to keep the channel on or come back next week. I’m not saying go full on “sports entertainment”, but I definitely think there needs to be better characters and stories. As good as a lot of the roster is in the ring, there’s so many that I assume just come off as generic/boring to someone who just turns it on randomly or tunes in for someone/something else and sees them.
AEWs first two segments are not true indicators of its viewership. It’s highly inflated because of the lead in. It’s why every week you see them lose viewers from start to end.
Young Bucks suck. They have always sucked. They can put on a good “performance” in the ring but what have they ever done in the wrestling business that wasn’t piggybacked off of early BC that has ever been anything worth a shit? They have no charisma at all, they don’t have a body they can lean on, they literally just do the same flippy floppy shit over and over again that neckbeards love. Tell me one interesting storyline the Bucks have had in AEW that was standalone all them and not part of some bigger happening? I’ll wait.
Well nobody tunes in to watch him wrestle. AEW would be better served having him not on the show at all (promos included) and you may see those bumps.
I like the Bucks, I accept them for what they are… I do agree Kenny needs to drop them and all the other idiots around him, get serious and be the Kenny that rocked NJPW
But I also think TK is in a tough position - AEW is supposed to be an alternative to WWE. Being wrestling-heavy is their brand, as opposed to the WWE product that is much more soap opera/promo/video package heavy. Like just look at Raw from his past Monday. Three-hour show, only about 57 minutes of bell-to-bell action. That would be the equivalent of AEW only having 38 minutes of wrestling on Dynamite. Without pointlessly wasting time to do the match, seems like anything under 50 minutes is pretty rare for Dynamite. There is a fine line to toe here. Go too far into the soap opera stuff, and they'll just end up looking like a WWE wannabe or WWE lite. That core of approximately 800K-900K they get every week for Dynamite aren't watching AEW because they want to see another WWE-style product. If they start to lose that core audience with any regularity, then their status as a legitimate second national wrestling brand is dead. That's not to say they can't do better with the soap opera with the time they generally allot for the non-wrestling portion of the show. And they could probably shave off a few minutes from the wrestling each show to help expand on that side of the product without it really having much of any sacrifice on the wrestling.
Definitely solid points, that’s what I meant by not going full on “sports entertainment” because I know they have to toe that line and remain different than WWE. I think if they can increase the number of entertaining/intriguing characters that could help make up for the lack of time for promos. Or just be better about who actually gets to grab the stick. Paige seems to get multiple chances to cut promos and they all suck lol yesterday all I remember is her saying “baby doll” like 50 times.
I’m watching Botchamania and a couple weeks ago it looked like Caster messed up the rap intro on Rampage so he said “let’s try it again” and walked to the back and the crowd kind of booed. Billy Gunn grabbed the mic and said “and you wonder why I only say 2 words”. Made me laugh.
Hikuleo vs. Jay White in a loser leaves New Japan match this weekend. Both are expected to leave this year. I suspect Hikuleo loses and goes to the WWE.
That's a big pick up if you are trying to expand internationally. This would also seem to knock Disney out of being a suitor for WWE if you are making deals with the competition.
Surprised WWE wasn't able to squash that given their relationship with ESPN. Also wonder if they will use this as a trial run to look into airing more live wrestling. Wrestling is considerably cheaper for TV rights than NBA, NFL, etc.
Watching WWE on delay so you can fast forward everything shit. Tag match was awesome, but way to calm down hot crowd with a Natalya promo....my goodness she's terrible Could you get less charisma in a ring than Natalya, Shayna and Ronda?
I get it's a Canada PPV.... but still I can't think Canadians even care about her at this point. She's the worst
I believe she got crickets the last time they were in Canada and they cut a angle with her getting beat down.
Next week Dynamite could be the worst one in a while. Daddy Ass, Orange Cassidy, The Acclaimed vs. Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Rush & Preston Vance (Texas Tornado match) Ruby Soho vs. Britt Baker vs. Toni Storm Jungle Boy vs. Brian Cage Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian Mark Briscoe vs. Josh Woods Interviews with Adam Cole and Wardlow AEW World Champion MJF will appear on the show
