I don't think it's such a bad thing if Alexis and Ozil left. We aren't close to winning the league with them. Why deal with the consternation?
That's one of the reasons why Dennis Bergkamp is(was) my favorite player ever - he was home at Arsenal. I'd have been miserable as fuck if social media & message boards were a big thing when Viera left.
Would be interesting if Wenger went somewhere like...say Barcelona and won big. He probably could win there. As much as some people would hate it, the best thing for the club would be for him to accept the 2 year extension, announce up front that it will be his last contract, and for Arsene & the club to spend the next two years preparing for the transition. Plus, two years from now coincides with the time that some great managers will be on the move again.
Don't want to lose Alexis under any circumstances. Post-Wenger Arsenal is going to be weird as hell and it's probably gonna be painful. Sigh.
Certainly won't be as predictable and easy to game plan for. Speaking of predictability, I still can't believe Coq let Robben cut in on his left foot. Although not as bad of a visual as the Hazard debacle, the Robben incident was worse imo. Get him the fuck out of here.
Besides the fact that he's a moron, Coq's another example of Arsene's stubbornness, specifically towards academy prospects who simply aren't good enough to genuinely compete for big trophies.
Arsene coaches 1 more year, then Löw to step in after the 2018 World Cup. We trade faulty zippers for nose picking/booger eating
Best #10 in the world... In a world that no other top clubs runs with a true #10. His free role puts us in a huge disadvantage in midfield. Love his creativity & vision, but tired of him disappearing. Ship him out
How about we just use him properly or give him an adequate midfield to feed him the ball. Ship him out so we can play Ramsey in midfield more or Wilshere, no fucking thanks.
There isn't one player capable of replacing Özil... certainly not Jack or Ramsey. Using him "correctly" necessitates utilizing a formation that all other major opponents have moved away from. Özil leaving would necessitate a shift in formation & tactics that likely would not leave us so open in the back. I want to win & Özil is a one-dimensional luxury that vanishes for long stretches. Him in a free role hasn't worked & there aren't 2 players to sit behind him available that will allow for it. Another season isn't going to change that. Time to blow it up... let him follow Wenger wherever he goes
the biggest problem the squad has is there's nobody who can do what Cazorla does and even Arteta before him. Ozil misses that player more than anyone else. Ozil has had a very disappointing season but i'd much rather find someone capable of playing behind him than ship him out.
Come on jorts, last year you were the exact opposite with Ozil and Alexis saying we should sell Alexis and Ozil was your god. Everyone has played awful recently because we have no transition from defense to attack. Thiago played as a 10 vs us and sure as hell isn't better than Ozil but had a brilliant game because they got him the ball consistently in good spaces.
I say what I said being under the full assumption that Ozil and Alexis want out. At this point, that has the be much more likely than the alternative.
I like Iwobi but he's not ready to play the 10 for a team that has ambitions of winning anything. Maybe in 3-4 years. Ozil's dip in form coincides with the rest of our midfielders being shit. Not sure what the answer is with the current roster.
Ozil won floating on the left with Deutschland. Also played a ton of wide mid at RM. Can't replace that caliber of player easily. Not his fault the current set up has us losing possession 75/25 in big games. It's the same insanity we dealt with two or theee years ago when all teams had to do was play an extremely high line because horse cock wasn't beating any cb in the league over the top. And we do have players that can do what santi can. They're just not being used in that manner.
I'm frustrated & drunk. I know I flip-flopped. I was wrong & admitted that earlier this season. We've seen the same tactics / formation for years now. We've replaced Cesc with Özil. It didn't work then, it's not working now & won't work moving forward. Özil isn't the only problem, but Wenger has built our team around him. That is why he signed with us & will likely resign if Wenger stays. Nobody else will give him free reign.
Probably intimidated by how much better Giroud, Theo, Ramsey, and Ox are than him. Never gonna get a game at Arsenal cause the best player always gets the nod
If a break gets him back to playing like our Mesut, I'm all for it. Don't like this low camera angle but oh well.
