They don't die immediately, especially if the trap is a glue board. I had one get in the drop ceiling of the basement. Knew it would figure out how to get down to the floor eventually, so I put down some glue boards. Field mouse got on it in the middle of the night, tried to pry himself loose and ripped a hole in the side of his body. Was still alive when I woke up. Everything about it was awful.
I prefer the have a heart traps just to avoid dealing with the dead rodent. About 10 years ago my inlaws went on a trip to Egypt and had left some traps in a garage storage room they forgot about. I stopped by one day to take their trash out to the street, and upon opening the garage door encountered about the worst stench ever. Found a big rat dead in the trap. I couldn't let them come home to that so I took care of it, but would rather just take the have a heart trap down to the other side of 285 and let it out in the woods. If they make it back across they probably deserve to stay.
yea glue traps are cruel those old school quick release traps like in the pic kill with a quickness Ive had to use them twice and both times I heard them go off and went to check and found a dead mouse
