Handling moderate pretty well now Think my 3 main issues at first were: 1. Waiting until I have a super army to attack. End up being on the defensive this way and get destroyed by drive weapons since I’m lol backed up 2. Relying on only gold units. Spamming a bunch of skirmishers seems much more efficient 3. Not being proactive getting as many relics as possible
Yeah, invite from lobby. The ability to invite clan members from a lobby is literally the only benefit the clan provides
Just finished getting my ass kicked by the hard ai for last couple hours. MIght get back on in a bit.
So the gaming pc I just built for like $1700 just to play a game I could play on the 2001 dell my dad bought me arrives tomorrow. Basically what I’m saying is I’ll be playing as much as possible after i get some free time.
few things from game 1 - one of your lumber camps (left side of your base) was placed on the wrong side of the forest, too far for the villagers to walk and they are exposed - this map was hard to do it in, but try to use your buildings to wall in your sides, especially after i started pressuring you. i did some damage after the first raid, but you had the right idea to start building spearmen. if you walled in your sides with pallisades and houses/blacksmith/market/etc, you would funnel me into the front of your base and that would give you more of a fighting chance. on top of this, as soon as you saw that i was sending scouts, you should change production to only spearmen (you kept building skirmishers to go with your spearmen, which are easy for scouts to kill) - some of your sheep could be killed more under your TC but youre doing well with luring boars and stuff, thats one of the harder things for new players to do, so good job from game 2 - you should practice build orders, i think at one time you had like 12 villagers on sheep and 2-3 on wood which gave you a bad imbalance on your economy. a build order would also help you determine when a good time to advance an age is. especially when you moved up to castle, your economy was pretty weak and you would not be able to sustain a castle age army - when youre getting attacked, try to set your newly built units to garrison in the barracks/archery range/stables so you can release them in groups at a time. much harder for me to kill 5 in a group than 1 by 1 by 1 - you ended up building a TC later, but pretty much as soon as you hit castle age you want to build two TCs, one on a secondary gold and one near a secondary forest. keep pumping villagers out of your 3 TCs constantly throughout the game. I raided you pretty harshly, but if you had two TCs up quickly you could have helped your economy a lot - you did better immediately after my archer raid than in game 1 - you only built skirmishers instead of skirmishers + spearmen, however... - when you see my combo of archers and seige, you should start thinking scouts - they do pretty well against archers because they are fast, but more importantly they are hell on seige. you built up your militia line and eventually got champions. champions are very situational with very specific civs, so you probably shouldnt use them unless you have a specific reason. too much gold lost by researching and building champions - you went pretty camel heavy, which is only useful against scouts and knights, they go down very fast to archers and are just kind of a bad gold investment unless im going straight mounted units. like the champions, not a great investment youre doing well for a new player, much better than when i started out for sure. i recommend finding a build order for 22 population scouts, 23 population archers, and fast castle. once you master those 3 basic build orders you will have a lot of flexibility and can branch off from there
awesome, lots of great info there. I think I panic too much and try to do things too fast, like when putting up buildings I'll just place them wherever without giving the location much thought, or when I'm under attack I just spam new military units wouldn't have thought of scouts vs all the seige, I'll try them out next time. my strat of sending skirmishers 1 by 1 into 20 mangonels didn't do too hot
you'll panic less once you get the units and counters straight - it will be second nature for you to think "hmm, scout pressure, better stick to spearmen and funnel them into my TC since they are much slower than scouts" use the natural resources as an advantage too - wall in forest chokepoints, use mines and trees as free walls, etc. you built your houses in an aesthetically pleasing way, but they would serve you better on the periphery of your base, since they take up 3x3 spaces and a wall takes up 1x1 you'll also learn to use the terrain to your advantage, building castles on hills, taking fights on hills, and such keep at it, its mostly about learning what each military unit is good for and what counters it at this point. then you can do more advanced things later
I left my steam on last night. If I get quarantined I’ll have to get some games in soon. Don’t have the time I used to have.
I tell ya what, I am very good at building an economy. Being able to defend that, that’s a whole other story.
Hehehe too bad that’s only half the game. If you love that playstyle though, I would suggest Black Forest games. Wall up and boom! Look for Onagers cutting your forest behind you though
