My boy has already mastered the lob wedge type bowling shot. He rolls it and it slowly moves back towards us until stopping dead in the center of the lane.
If he’s not already getting private lessons from Pete Weber unfortunately it’s too late, he’s way too far behind.
It’s even more stupid to sign up for a tournament that is out of your talent level and my guess is the bases and mound are all farther away too, so you’re even more handicapped.
Email from parent today Additionally, on numerous occasions, we dealt with inappropriate behavior by the referees. Background checks should be ran, if they aren’t already (just as JTYAA does). We will likely not be joining another season as it is evident that this is a politically ran association.
I had nothing to do with the choosing of the teams in that age division. However based on the email if she feels she wasn’t picked because they are republicans then I’m very ok with helping create that culture
Can you please send an email back inquiring what types of inappropriate behavior they are suggesting by the referees? There could be some serious accusations behind that… or some wildly dumb logic
At AAU volleyball nationals, postgame handshakes have been banned this week because there were too many fights last week at the 14u wave
Had a parent ranting to me tonight about the furry/trans/gay agenda that's taking place in schools today at soccer practice tonight. He even referenced the parents of the furrys (furries?) asking for litter boxes for there kids and acted like it happened at their kids' school. I'm not trying to get into it with someone we have to see multiple times per week. Me and the other parent in the conversation (who is an unengaged conservative from what I can tell) work in education and were like "Yeah, we've never seen that in our schools." But it didn't deter him from "it's coming" and "do your research" rhetoric. He was trying to say it's happening in a very afluent private school that would never allow it (Tom Brady's kids went there) and then at the public school his wife is on the PTA for (again, not happening in a FL public school under emperor DeSantis). I thought the litter box bullshit died 2 years ago.
Was watching the GA/TN LLWS game. GA Team is a County over from mine. Kirby Smart's kid is playing for them and He was pitching today. Tie ball game in Extra Innings and TN almost takes the lead but the CF throws a frozen rope to the C to nail the runner and keep it tied. The runner is laying there in disbelief and Smart is hopping around looking at him just running his mouth. Guess that was enough motivation for TN bc they lit GA up the next at bat to knock them out.
Long Rant incoming. So my son didn't make All-Stars for Baseball in the Spring. He had 3 Teammates that did and by the end of the Season he was out performing one of them and right behind the other two. All-Stars names get put in midseason so he understood at the beginning of the season he was struggling to hit while those 3 were hitting well. This summer he grinded. 90% of the weeks he was at a Baseball Camp and I expected him to get burnt out but he would come home and wait for me to be done working so we could throw in the backyard or I could soft toss with him in the garage. So we moved up a league this fall and a week out before evaluation they sent out a notice that they need coaches. I knew 7 out of the 10 All-Star kids were not playing Fall Ball bc they were playing Football and so like 3 Coaches we have had for the past 2 years were gone. A buddy says he will coach if I help out and I agreed. So we have our first practice yesterday and I noticed the All-Star team practicing. So because of Football they turned the All-Star Team into a Travel Team so they can work around the Football Schedule and not deal with Rec Ball Schedule. Which is fine if you want to go be a Travel Team go be one, but if they come back to Rec in the Spring, Coach, then go and Pick all their own kids again for All-Star its going to irk me.
as I was reading that I was thinking - teach the kid early that all star teams are largely popularity contests (all the way up to MLB) and don't really matter, but if they're using that for the formation of the travel team I definitely think it's worth taking issue. travel teams should have a separate tryout.
It would have something to do with ugly parent syndrome. If a ref is only a kid learning the ropes and there are abusive dickheads abusing the new ref then that is on the parents of other players who did the abusing. That kid might be lost to the game. As an aussie rules goal umpire in community footy i see a lot of it as there are young kids learning the ropes from a senior umpire.
Yeah I just want them to pick a lane, but I feel like they are just going to come back to rec in the Spring and then pick the exact same kids as All-Stars so they can go play in Summer Tournaments with them. Probably wouldn't bug me as much but one of the Dad/Coaches went on and on about how happy he was for a break from Baseball in the Fall. I've had friends kids be on his teams and he's one of those Coaches that clearly makes his Kid the main Priority.
what age? pretty common for folks around here to use the top all star team for each age group and put them all on a travel team together. it's all political and gross. but it's a massive spider web that is hard to avoid if your kid likes ball.
6U I guess but we just moved up. Yeah I get that part...was hoping I could make it 1 or 2 more years before the politics of baseball got to me. That and I worry I might have to move my kid from Rec to a Travel Team sooner than later.
yeah I didn't intend to defend the practice. we are almost 8 and still avoiding most of that BS. birmingham is big enough there's something for everybody.
Yeah we just moved into 8U league. The Teeball League was very fun and very competitive the past two years and I feel like I am really going to miss it.
t-ball is the fucking worst, I'm getting my kid out of that as soon as he can hit overhand pitching consistently.
Ours was coach pitch until 2 strikes then you get the tee. If you swing and miss you’re out. One foul is ok but 2 tee fouls and you’re out.
Very few of my son’s friends who played travel in first grade are even still playing baseball in fifth.
Anyone been to Cooperstown Dreams Park for a baseball tournament? My youngest son goes next week. Any recs for food, sites to see/avoid?
Yes but I coached so we were fucking trapped. There was a brewery we hit that was out the park and to the right but it was like 6 years ago.
Families can apply for a scholarship to play in our soccer league which I believe runs $170 now. Happens fairly often and most get approved and they get to play for free to help kids/families play youth sports. This season a family applied and was given the scholarship but the registration was full so they were put on a waitlist. They offered to sponsor a team if it got their kid off the waitlist which is more than double the cost of registration.
$350 you get your business name on the back of the jerseys. T-MB has done it before for a bunch of 5 year olds
Welp I guess I'm coaching soccer since no one else volunteered. If I didn't volunteer there is no way I would have shown my face at the first practice and not offered to help but there were 4 other Dads there who had no issue kicking back and watching.
Not parent related but a middle school here had to spend all fall sports for 3 weeks for jumping an SRO and a janitor.
Indiana. My buddy did a football flaw at another middle school and said it was just an expletive filled train wreck.
Had to HC last night for the first time. The other two coaches were traveling for work. Of course it had to be on a Monday. Hate Monday games. Kids always struggle to pay attention Monday after school. Team is 1st-3rd Graders and we are Majority 1st Graders. Played a Team who was the opposite. We held our own till about the 3rd inning and then the wheels started falling off. SS didn't stop a ball all night. 1B dropped 3-4 balls that hit him in the glove. 4th and 5th Inning it changes from Coach Pitch to Kid Pitch and their strategy was clearly telling their kids to just not swing. Game ended with a line drive going into CF and the Center Fielder taking it right to the eye after the 1st bounce. He kept the ball in front of him though so luckily was a easy choice for the Game Ball. Have to HC again on Wednesday against my Son's old team which is also the best team in the league....
why the fuck is their "strategy" outside of teaching them the fundamentals for 1st-3rd graders? Those kids are learning absolutely nothing if they are being told not to swing at any pitches and just take walks
Yeah I was not a fan of that. I get waiting for your pitch but it really seemed like these kids were just not going to swing. Not sure if we will see this from other teams.
There's a massive difference between saying, make the pitcher throw you a strike/teaching kids not to swing at everything and what they were doing. Absolute douche move, especially when their team was 2 years older.
There’s a massive difference between first and third graders. At most having two grades per league seems fair but I guess you get all the play down kids too.
