I think he should have been kicked off but suspending him for “X” games would have been something. It would have made it believable that some people would not have been satisfied with anything you guys did. Doing nothing and lying and painting him out to be a victim makes it seem like the athletic department only cares about winning.
Unless they changed the law: What is the Alabama accomplice law? Under Alabama law, code 13A-2-23, a person is legally accountable for the behavior of another person if he or she "procures, induces or causes such other person to commit the offense."Mar 5, 2020 https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com › ... Nathaniel Woods was convicted under the accomplice law. He's now facing death
Big difference in something being true and being able to convince 12 people it's true beyond a reasonable doubt
Listen guys, you’re arguing with mulletman. Responding is a futile exercise. I said my piece a few weeks ago. I’m not happy with my alma mater. I think Miller should have been disciplined for the remainder of the season. I still want Bama to succeed in the tournament. But I’m nowhere as invested as I was a couple months ago.
That omits the crucial part of the statute: “if, with the intent to promote or assist the commission of the offense…” To be a crime, you have to have the culpable mental state + the culpable act. There’s zero doubt that the culpable act is there. If there were any way to prove intent, he’d be awaiting trial.
I see a lot of people are upset that the only logical reason someone could ever criticize bama is because their athletic teams have had some success and they are jealous of that. Really is a shame more of you don’t realize you’re incapable of forming opinions outside of that context
Surprised this hasn't been brought up yet....Lots of details, I'm not sure what contradicts what....but apparently video does possibly show initial shots were from inside the jeep https://patch.com/alabama/tuscaloosa/new-evidence-provides-compelling-account-bama-hoops-murder-case
Yeah the Jeep was the car with the victim in it. The article says there’s reason to believe based on the video that the first shots came from the Jeep but it’s not conclusive.
The article paints a very different picture than the al.com article that came out after the initial hearing. Still no footage available for the public so it’s based on whatever the journalist saw and the conclusions he came up with.
the jeep leaving after the initial contact and circling the block repeatedly with lights off before meeting with a 3rd party and pulling in behind miller’s car is just a wildly different scenario than what’s been discussed until now
in the article, the defense attorney says that he hasn’t been successfully served a subpoena, which at least implies that an attempt has been made
If the other car shot first, it seems like maybe Davis and Miles should have told investigators that, and/or testified to that in the preliminary hearing. How do you give a statement that you saw a gun being passed in the car before you went and got yours, but not that they shot at you first? The defense attorney should be leading with that information if that was the case right? This guy has some really conveniently placed “being objective” caveats in his article, weird not to mention lack of testimony from the accused on who shot first. He also harps in the article and on Twitter about this being bare bones straight journalism about a capitol murder case, but starts off with a few paragraphs of accolades for Miller including how he played in the game that night, as if that is relevant at all.
And conveniently throws in Johnson’s criminal history and the presence of weed in the car as if it’s in any way relevant.
it’s worth noting that (for some reason) you’re just straight up lying about what was written to make it easier to disregard. This is how far you have to read into the article to find a mention of Brandon Miller’s performance, and it’s not even two full sentences. So good job arguing against an article that doesn’t exist.
You left out this part It is at this point that Davis, who had walked off in another direction, can be seen running up behind the Jeep and up to the driver's side window. At 1:45 a.m., the first shot was fired. I think it's hard for Davis to claim self defense when he ran up to the Jeep armed with a gun.
Yeah, so he spends some fluff time setting up his article talking about sticking to facts of the case. Then talks about basketball for 3 paragraphs once the article starts. Exactly what I said. If you’re being objective, you don’t have to repeatedly say how objective you’re being, you just be objective.
Johnson’s criminal history and the weed in the car are both going to be the subject of extensive motion practice on a Motion in Limine and there’s a 50/50 chance both are coming in at trial right? Johnson’s convictions are in the last 10 years, violent, and felonies, correct? He’s not a party to the case but still think that stuff could come in. He’ll end up getting charges brought against him before this is all over.
spin it!! that’s a solid goalpost shift. i like that you quickly went from “the first 3 paragraphs are accolades of miller” to “three paragraphs of ‘fluff’ before 3 paragraphs of basketball” when it’s still only 3 complete sentences about basketball (in a case full of basketball players, go figure) in a long form article. you obviously want this article to not be credible so you’ve felt the need to exaggerate about it twice.
also, when i lived in tuscaloosa i thought he was a solid reporter and did a good job covering events and asking hard questions during covid and the george floyd protests. he was one of the only reporters i remember who went after TPD when they shot an unarmed man dead in the middle of the street
Self defense does not mean they were shot at first. I would assume if that was mentioned in the hearing, Ryan would have put it in the article.
regardless, self defense is bullshit. both men wanted to shoot at each other and they got their wish. and now a young woman is dead because of it
I’m not sure where you’re going? I haven’t given any opinion about charges, guilt ,innocence, or anything of the like in this thread. After him talking up sticking to facts relevant to the case, I almost stopped reading at this. You thought all of that was relevant. Cool
