to pnk$krtcrÿnästÿ point, this is not a glorious way to go. A medieval knight re-enactor died in a freak accident over the weekend when he impaled himself on his own lance while competing at a Renaissance fair.
Other interesting quotes from the article “His metal tipped lance, used for catching rings (not jousting), hit the ground and flipped. Freak accident. It impaled him under his sternum killing him,” John Barclay wrote in a Facebook post over the weekend. And of course “He died doing what he loved, but will still be missed,” John wrote.
The saddest thing in the whole article was that he died while “attempting to spear a paper plate on the ground.” I doubt you get welcomed into whatever the Renaissance Fair equivalent of Valhalla is for that.
To each their own but I think there is an age where pretending to be a knight goes from fun and normal to odd. My neighbors a few houses down were into something really odd for awhile but apparently stopped after having a kid. They used to get home late at night and would be dressed up as wizards or some shit. This was a somewhat frequent year round occurrence.
I think if you're history nerdy and making your own armor and fighting people with it then that is pretty cool.
Until someone gets over zealous and puts a dull axe head through your armor, or you stab yourself trying to lance a paper plate.
One of my best friends from college does this in the Seattle area Whenever I'm in an armor museum in Europe I take a shitload of pics to send to him
"Can I get a knife and fork?" "There were no utensils DURING medieval times so there's no utensils AT Medieval Times." "There were no utensils but there was Pepsi?" "Dude I got a lot of tables..."
How does the officer not just immediately dive over the barrier? You would think that's something they teach.
you can teach anything in a moment like this and it might not matter, some people just can’t react well under stress
Happened a year ago But dude was recently sentenced to 100 years. He was going 100mph going the wrong way on the interstate in a truck and hit six motorcycles in his truck.
Oh I guess he’s actually a stuntman. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/ghost-rider-2-stuntman-sues-427127/amp/
love the world we live in where everyone grabs their phone to video the aftermath instead of running over to help the guy
Was he supposed to land in the water? I don't see any landing pad or stack of boxes like a place they were planning on him landing
Had to be the water. If he’s a professional stuntman do they not calculate speed / angle of this stuff? He didn’t even miss the ramp he just overshot it
Yea. I'm sure they do. Someone either miscalculated it, built the ramp wrong, or told him the wrong speed to hit the ramp
This was apparently not a stunt for the film, but a promotional stunt done for the release. I’ve never done any promotional side gigs like this, but all of those oversights would never happen on a production set. We would do rehearsals at slower speeds, and slowly build up until we knew what worked. It wouldn’t be a “Just go for it, kid” type of approach. There would normally be more fire safety guys around, and there would be other stunt guys on the opposite side of the water with crash pads, just in case something went wrong. The video from the news station made it a little clearer on why this happened. He was hired independently and helped set up the stunt (which was obvious from the unnecessary glass bars that he jumped through). I hope that Sony helps him on his medical bills, but since it didn’t happen during production of the film, I’m sure they have an ‘out’, and they can leave him hanging.
