COLLEGE BASKETBALL Spoiler Thought this would be a fun and nostalgic project, hope you all enjoy perusing this spreadsheet! Took quite a bit of work, but I’m really liking the finished product. As for what exactly this is, I’ve created 15-man All-2010s teams for 351 Division 1 college basketball teams. I started out by dumping every D1 player’s stat lines from the 2010-11 through 2019-20 seasons into a spreadsheet (2010s Stats sheet) and ranked them using PER, WS, and BPM. Each player was then given an overall rating based on that ranking. Team rosters were then populated with the top 15 single-season players from the decade, but with the caveat that a player can only appear once on a single all-decade team. Teams are also ranked by the average their players’ overall ratings (rankings are to the right of the school names in the All-Decade Teams tab, while their average overall rating is in the far right column above their players’ overall ratings). One thing to note is that there are no position quotas, mainly because I don’t feel confident in the players’ listed position accuracy (positions were determined by Sports-Reference, where I downloaded the stats), so some teams can be very front-or-backcourt-heavy, though I haven’t noticed this being a problem with very many teams. Any questions or feedback, let me know! MLB Spoiler These ratings are based on both bWAR and fWAR for batters, and ERA- and FIP- for pitchers. NBA/ABA/WNBA Spoiler NBA and ABA ratings are based on GP, MP, WS, BPM, and VORP. WNBA ratings are only based on WS. NHL Spoiler NHL ratings are based on Point Shares for skaters and Goalie Point Shares, SV%, and GAA for goalies.
he did one for cfb too he’s the real analytics guy here unlike Bankz bhrangerfan0809 you should do baseball next
I feel like a Dozier-Sin-Carrera-Silva-Muldrow team would be fucking dirty defensively and on the boards. Ton of length.
My first thought on seeing Thornwell-Silva-Carrera 1-2-3 was damn I wish they could have played together. Was not expecting to see Damontre Harris's name on the list, or ever again
Appreciate all the time put into this, pretty cool to look at. PER is such a strange analytic to judge players. I feel baseball has gotten a relatively solid way to look at players overall with fWar and WAR where PER is a crapshoot with basketball. In the NBA often times it has the top players in the league in the top 10 among guys like Clint Capela who is a good player but I would not rank anywhere near the top 10. Looking at ND I find it interesting how low Pat Connaughton is, who is the only player to actually have any NBA success out of ND players in the last decade aside from Jerian Grant playing a few years. The list also does not include Steve Vasturia at all who I imagine if ND was trying to build some super roster of the decade that he'd be a starter. The only other team I follow closely is UC Irvine and it mainly stacks up aside from Max Hazzard being as low as he was but he was kind of a heat check guy so I remember more of the positives than the games where he was ice cold
Yep! Started working on it Monday and just wrapped it up this morning. I’ll have to change the ratings formula, but I’m trying to do an all-2000s one next (kinda excited because that’ll be a bit more nostalgic for me).
Good observations! I just went with PER as part of the formula since it was there in the stat lines I exported, definitely open to improving the formula if I can figure out a better method. I’m also leaning towards including a position quotas or caps (I noticed too late Gonzaga has like two guards, and Pangos and Ayayi barely missed the cut).
PER for some reason puts a huge weight on rebounding, good rebounding guards especially always look like gods in PER ratings
So funny reading through these lists and seeing some great nba players below guys I’ve never even heard of not a knock on your list btw because they very well could have had better seasons in college than those nba guys
I assume the 2009-10 season isn't included? Only two comments I would have for Kentucky is... Formula probably needs tweaking as it has Josh Harrelson higher than Fox, Adebayo, Monk, SGA, Quickley, Brandon Knight, and Doron Lamb. The last 3 of which didn't even make the team. No one in their right mind would argue to rank Harrelson above any of those 7. Also, Quickley was the SEC Player of the Year for the year Nick Richards made this team, so a bit odd to have Richards on there but not Quickley.
It’s literally just a ranking based on the stats he listed Take it up with the stats also cal sucks lol
That’s fair, I’m still playing around with the player rating formulas to get it just right. I added a new sheet with rosters that have limits on frontcourt and backcourt players per roster (no more than nine in either category), and Quickley is on that roster.
I’ve updated the spreadsheet to include all-2000s and all-2020s teams, and players are now just rated by win shares as opposed to win shares, PER, and BPM (I think the results look a lot better this way).
iirc the last time op did this, he was like "yeah i did this as a hobby thing and spent x amount of time on it" and the first reply was like "that list sucks"
Decided to make this an all-in-one thread for all of my all-time roster spreadsheets. I’ve added the MLB, NBA/ABA/WNBA, and NHL to the OP. Hope y’all enjoy!
I scrolled down to the Yankees and saw A-rod at the top of their all time SS list and chuckled. Grade A bait for the Yankees fan base
Lol yeah, so with the MLB list, players are assigned to the position they played most in their career, and I pick the team they’re assigned to, usually whichever team they accumulated the most WAR with, so sometimes you get funny results like that.
