Had a good experience doing this so I figured I’d pass it along. I play mostly FPS games and it bothers me to no end that there isn’t a “pro” version of the PS5 controller with back paddles. And spending like $300 on a custom Scuf or Battle Beaver controller isn’t all that appealing either. I found these on Amazon and decided to give it a go: Back Paddle Install Kit That’s the 4-paddle version, but they also have 2-paddle versions (which is what I prefer). Honestly I’m pretty pumped with the result. I also installed the tactile hair triggers (L1/L2 and R1/R2), and they are great as well. You have to go to YouTube to get instructions on how to do the installs but other than that it’s not too bad at all if you are even slightly savvy with electronics. The most difficult portions are the soldering portions, but you can skip those entirely if you don’t care about being able to map the touchpad or the R3/L3 buttons to the paddles (and most probably don’t). I didn’t do any soldering for my install.
My gf was enamored by the colored controllers and bought the purple and blue ones and she doesn’t even play it i should mod one of hers and throw her off completely
I don't really understand what this controller does or why you would mod it. I looked at the listing and it didn't help much. Can you explain for me?
It makes it so you have back paddles on the controller that you can then map to whatever buttons you want. In many games (FPS games for example) it is highly advantageous to be able to do things like jump and crouch without having to take your thumbs off of the sticks. Let’s take call of duty for example: you move with the left stick and aim/turn with the right stick. If you want to jump you press X. If you want to crouch or slide you press O. Normally you’d have to take your right thumb off of the right stick to hit X or O to perform those actions. However with paddles on the back of the controller you can just tap the paddles with your other fingers instead while never having to move your thumbs off the sticks. It’s a big advantage for overall movement and in gunfights. Because of this, companies like SCUF and Battle Beaver have created a niche market of selling (very expensive) aftermarket controllers that come with back paddles (and a variety of other customizations). Microsoft even started selling a “pro” version of the Xbox controller that has back paddles. However, Sony hasn’t done the same for PS5. So this kit allows you to install back paddles yourself without having to drop like $300 on an aftermarket PS5 controller.
For example, below is the Xbox Elite series controller that has backpaddles and all sorts of other customization options. Sony hasn’t released anything similar for the PS5 so we have to use these kits to do it ourselves, essentially. https://www.xbox.com/en-us/accessories/controllers/elite-wireless-controller-series-2-halo-infinite
SCUF and Battle Beaver make them, yes. But they are stupid expensive and hard to even get right now, and this is a way cheaper option.
This would be nice in Elden ring. It's always a bitch to hit the down button to cycle between horse and healing potion and then hit square all while I'm trying to run and dodge. The should have let you map whatever you want in those 4 directions.
Horse, Physick potion, summon on the Triangle/Y + D-pad is the way to go. I only keep HP and FP on the one you have to cycle, and maybe the occasional situational item
