Ordered a 24" iMac with the M1 last night.
4-6 week delivery time
After 11 years of Android phones, I just picked up my first iPhone (13 Pro) and the series 7 watch.
Still quite an adjustment and a lot that I haven’t gotten used to, but it feels like an upgrade in most areas. I dearly miss the persistent back button and PiP for YouTube & YouTube TV, and toggling between apps by swiping up then across is less efficient, but it’s a small price to pay.
Absolutely loving the integration between iPhone and the watch - just fantastic. It’s also super refreshing to charge my phone once per day rather then 2-3x on my last Samsung.
Moved from an 8+ to a 13 recently and I'll go to my grave believing that either a physical button or Android's on-screen button is a drastically better option for app switching/closing than swiping.
Wanted the orange but my wife is a big time bammer and I didn't want to hear about orange/Auburn, so I just went with silver since I wasn't wild about any of the others
I’d rather have the screen space than a button dedicated to doing primarily only one thing.
I get it but Android managed both. It's literally the only thing I like about the OS.
You should be able to get PiP for those apps and others like Netflix and such.
youtube on iOS doesnt allow PiP unless you pay for youtube premium
there was a test trial at one point but that is gone
some say the trial only runs til oct 31, so maybe November they make it a non premium feature
Costco is offering $150 off 2020 M1 MBP.
believe PIP is coming to the iOS YouTube app soon
Related but I'm also looking to upgrade from 8 to 13 and i too have only held out this long to keep the button.
What's the best way to upgrade nowadays? Unlock phones and sell on eBay or trade in with carrier? I have Verizon. I think I did a BOGO on our 8s (wife and I)
Your 8 isn’t going to be worth much. I would just try to trade in.
I switched from ATT to Verizon and went from a 6 to a 13. They gave me $400 trade in credit.
Hmm. It says $79 trade in value but I have an 'offer' for $550 in monthly credits for 30 months. So I guess that means it's $550 off retail but you need to space it out over the 30-month plan. Which is fine I guess. That's probably best route?
Yeah, trade-in is best. Make sure you read the fine print, sometimes the trade values are tied to certain plans.
Anyone have the HomePod Mini? We don’t have any Alexa’s or similar devices. Was considering getting a HomePod mini for my wife and Daughter for Christmas.
What is your intended use? My understanding is that HomePods sound great but Siri is terrible (shocker).
I personally never saw the value in these types of devices. We have better quality sound bars but it would be just more convenient in other rooms. The intercom feature seems nice which maybe it’s just because I’m a dad and no one ever answers me when I talk.
I would go with the Echo tbh based on what you just said.
I have wondered about the homepod also. have a google mini we primarily use to stream radio/bluetooth in the kitchen and other options just dont seem like theyre worth the money
Target has the air pod pros for 200 assuming they are worth the 30 extra bucks over the new ones?
Think the new pros with the magsafe case are on sale too. Only thing different is the case.
Grabbed them pros with MagSafe from bestbuy for 190.
Lost my pros. Ordered another pair and was on my way to get them when I got the alert about the beats fit pros. They are basically airpod pros with no wireless charging and a bit different design. Reviews are great. Canceled my order and an getting those.
189 seems to be about as low as air pod pros go huh?
thinking about them as a christmas gift for the wife
update: bought some for both of us and neither were a present
these thing are amazing and I’m an idiot for not getting them months ago
Is getting an Apple 4K TV worth it if I've got a smart Sony TV? Been looking at one for holidays.
I don’t see advantage over a fire stick max. Probably comes down to interface and how it’s installed. Firestick plugs into hdmi of tv directly. Apple is a box.
Yes; the UI and UX of Apple TV are head and shoulders above that of Fire Stick. I don't want to see dumb advertisements on the Home Screen of my TV. If you're in the Apple Ecosystem, spend the extra $100 and get the Apple TV (do it, even if you aren't; it's just a better experience)
Fire OS UI is a straight up disaster.
I thought I was just being a boomer for hating it and then hating it even more after the retool a few months ago.
I don’t think the OS is good, but it’s serviceable. Honestly I am most offended by the remotes. Fucking years of design and development have gone into making remotes that people like. The shit they roll out should be a war crime. #Boomerant
oddly I don’t have an issue. The roku on one tv is horrendous.
I’ll have to see how the Apple TV is better. I just pick the app I want.
agree 100% with this. I've tried a good bit of the sticks etc and there's nothing that compares to UI & UX of ATV. hell, even if you're not apple ecosystem, it is hands down the best. not sure if you have kids or not, but keeps things super simple for them too to find whatever the hell they want.
As a budding UX designer, I just love that people fucking get it and cherish good UX.
I am an Apple fanboi and i even use Apple home for automaton. and the HomePod is terrible.
take that as you may.
I've had a bunch of different devices - Apple TV, Chromecast (without remote), Chromecast with Google TV (has a remote), Fire TV, and Roku. My rankings are as follows
Chromecast with Google TV
Roku (though their constant conflicts with the content providers is an issue that will make me rank it lower if it continues)
Apple TV GUI really is good at helping keep track of the shows you watch across apps. Plus the ESPN multicast is the greatest thing ever.
fify for you...but welcome to the party, pal
Are y’all still having this issue? I seem to have terrible signal and IG takes forever to load. I switched over from ATT to Verizon so I wasn’t sure if it was just that Verizon sucks or if it’s my phone.
This is still happening and it’s still annoying as fuck.
It’s only on WiFi for me, but yes iPad still struggles frequently and none of my other devices do
Podcasts app is ok on my phone but has been terrible on my watch since the updates. Episodes never download correctly to it and played episodes don’t clear from the queue like they should. Making me think I should give Spotify a try for podcasts
It was AWFUL when it first updated. Seems to have worked out the kinks for me on the phone recently.
Had issues with it in the past, coupled with an irrational hatred for iTunes sent me looking. I used a third party podcast app for a while, don’t remember the name, and now I just use Spotify for everything else. No issues with the app or Spotify.
This was definitely what I used!
The podcasts app stinks
I finally transitioned my podcasting over to Spotify. Much easier
Overcast is a game changer
