So I bought a random macbook air off of amazon renewed for 184 dollars. Everything is backwards so far and I've had to google more than I'd care to admit. However, I bought a magic mouse and I love the thing. Its fairly old and its running sierra 10.12. I tried to download high sierra 10.13 but nothing happens after the download. Any ideas if I'm just stuck with 10.12? Not the biggest of deals because I don't know any better.
what is the model/year of your macbook? It's very possible it is too old to get new macos updates. My 2014 macbook pro is stuck a few versions back and does the same thing you describe. click on the apple icon in the top left, "about this mac"
yeah it'll do just fine. You'd have to check apple's support site to see if they list when they'll stop releasing security updates for that OS. you have a great laptop for only spending $184 IMO.
Decided to get the AirPod Max’s got them at a good deal. So far so good, the battery has been impressive
Looking for recs for an extra monitor for work, but one that will also work with my MacBook Air M2. Work laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad. Thanks for any suggestions.
I was actually just looking at an extra monitor for work and may go after this one. I believe this would work as long as you have the prober usb c - hdmi adapter? https://www.microcenter.com/product...0fq-27-full-hd-(1920-x-1080)-75hz-led-monitor edit: I know nothing about monitors, so I am also open to recommendations too.
Thanks for the rec. My MacBook Air only has the two thunderbolt ports, so I'm not sure compatibility wise, what I'll need. Thanks again.
Yeah, you would just need the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter like this: can't get link to work, just search on amazon, thunderbolt to hdmi adapter
I like these ones for that exact scenario: Dell UltraSharp U2723QE 27" 4K UHD WLED LCD Monitor - 16:9 - Black, Silver https://a.co/d/cNd8kK2 They have a built in kvm switch, so you can just have both laptops connected and easily switch back and forth (also automatically switches any connected peripherals like mouse and keyboard). And the monitor itself basically replaces any hub/docking station that you use. You aren’t gonna get perfect scaling with a Mac unless you get a retina monitor essentially, but it doesn’t bother most people.
I ran the latest iOS update last night and now my phone doesn't recognize my SIM card. fun stuff, this is why I normally wait until they absolutely force my phone to update.
update on this since I'm still just getting use to it. I was trying to upgrade from sierra to high sierra 10.12 to 10.13 and it wasn't working. But after a brief conversation with a friend of mine who has macbooks I attempted to upgrade the macOS to bigsur and was successful. Really excited by that. lot of fun features.
update on this - they wound up doing a hard reset on my phone and somehow I lost all my pictures & videos even though I pay $2.99 a month for 200 GB of icloud space and we double checked everything was on to sync. haven't been this upset about something in a while.
That’s insane. The backup isn’t even on your phone. So why was it lost. But yeah I have 3 backups. Sorry man
do you not have any backups whether iCloud or on a computer? because even if they dont "sync" back, if you restore from a backup they would come back
restores dont touch iCloud though and if it did, the data that "got zapped" is restorable on iCloud.com or from engineering
if they aren't saved on the phone, yes in which case when you turn iCloud on it would sync back but for photos/videos can take up to 72 hours that's why i'm saying I would check what is on iCloud.com because that is a direct reflection of the server, and there is also the recently deleted folder on there you can look in if they aren't on there then either 1) they were saved on the phone and never synced so a restore from backup would put them back on there or 2) they were deleted in iCloud which can be recovered by either or calling in and getting a t2 to send it to engineering bc there is a restore data option that advisors/internal has
if you want an actual answer Spoiler the "cloud" is just a server each device singed into the account reflects what is on the server when a device adds something new (assuming settings are turned on) it sends it to the server and the server then sends it to all devices signed into that account if you delete something from a device, it deletes it from the server and deletes it from all devices signed into the account
And downloading it from the App Store doesn’t work? Seems like that app might have an issue then. You can try another Apple ID and see if that works
I was able to download on my iPad, so at least I can access my account. What’s strange is I can redownload other free apps.
It’s triggering to me when friends say they keep getting larger capacity iPhones to store their photos. Kids. Travel. Etc etc and zero backup. Just keep it all on phone.
Left my Apple Watch on the charger for way too long and appears it destroyed the battery (won’t turn on) what’s the move? Send off to apple? Buy apple care first?
Liked my apple tv so much I bought a second one. Wish they'd put find my in the remote. Bought a stick on airtag thing for it but hate the bulkiness it adds. Had to do sonething with two toddlers and this tiny ass remote.
Spigen Silicone Fit Designed for Apple TV 4K 2021/2022 Siri Remote Anti-Slip Shockproof Case Compatible with AirTag - Black https://a.co/d/2ItpWf0 These are great for that purpose. I have two of them. I don’t even have an AirTag in one of them - I just much prefer how it feels compared to the standard remote shape.
